12 Races of Christmas & Holiday Hot Box

Saturday - 12/12/2009

What at great night Saturday evening, December 12th, will be at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Not only will we be having a great promotion and giving away a ton of prizes and cash, we also will have a great greyhound race to watch and bet on.

In our twelve races of Christmas promotion everyone 18 and older will have a chance to win some great stuff at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Just fill out the form, place it in the bin, and channel some holiday spirit and luck from the jolly old man himself.

Announcer Joe "Ho, Ho, Ho" Ross will be poised and ready to go as we will draw 36 lucky winners throughout the evening. After races two thru thirteen, three lucky winners names will be drawn and then they will get a chance to pick a present under the tree. Each one is filled with a card stating the prizes that they have won.

Prizes include several electronic items (Blu-Ray Players, Digital Cameras, Ipods, etc.), Gift Cards to retailers and restaurants, and the almighty greenbacks, cold hard cash!

This alone would be a great reason to come on out and join on, but wait, there is more! Out Holiday Hot-Box feature runs in the 11th, and trust me when I say, this is as good of a race as any stakes final!

Loads of talent throughout the ranks of these eight greyhounds. Including stakes winners, stakes competitors, red hot greyhounds, new risers and old veterans. This is going to be quite a race to watch as all eight have at least 2 grade A wins in their last six efforts, six of the eight have a win in their last trip around the oval, and half the field has three or more wins showing on the page. So without further ado, let's get into it.

1. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) the runner up in the recent finals of the 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile, this greyhound is a puppy no more. He has been competing and winning grade A's for a while now and gets another shot at a victory from a great post position. He will need to get out in a hurry tonight if she is going to run with the big boys and girls. She has won 3 of her last 6 races, all in the stakes, and was the leader in points heading to that final.

2. Rays Balto (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is the hottest greyhound at the racetrack right now over 550 yards. He has been breaking extremely well and making minced meat out of the competition in the process. With two wins in a row and five in his last six races, you see my point, but the exclamation could be made even louder from the inside post. He loves to break from here and has never lost at Orange Park from inside of the 3 hole!

3. Wp's Rainbow (Maryville Rumble* - Icu Greta) was the recent winner of the 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile at 13-1. This girl has really come into her own recently and is riding high on a cloud into this effort. The 30.37 clocking in the finals was a career best and now finally back in grade A, she is going to have to keep up the good work if she hopes at winning this very tough race. Mommy is proud of her, the kennel is stoked, now let's see if she can do it again.

4. Kiowa Smedley (Dodgem By Design - Kiowa Heavenly) is a much better talent than his lines show. When he first arrived from Mardi Gras he took to the racetrack and really started putting up some impressive numbers. Then he fell into a bit of a slump, but now seems to be reversing that trend in his last couple of races. He has been breaking better and using his late speed to not only contend, but to win races. No problems with the midtrack post for him and if the speed falters, everyone better watch out at the finish line.

5. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) is not the flashy DQ Williams greyhound, but he is one that posses all that they stand for on the racetrack. A good hard trying closer that never gives up in any start. That sums it up! He too has been on fire as of late. Winning three efforts and finishing in the money in 6 races in a row, he is probably on the best stretch of his career right now. Mistrack is where he lives too, but the rail might have been a bit more positive for him at the start of this race. If he gets around close, it could be very interesting late.

6. La's Anthony (Dustin The Way - La's Felisha) is out of a pair of grade A runners here at the Orange Park Kennel Club and the traits have passed down the DNA chain. Anthony is a perennial competitor in stakes finals, and even though he has yet to win one, he has been a factor in almost all of his final round appearances. The tough spot for him here is the post. He is all rail all the time and when he in red, he is extremely tough, but this is the 6 box. He has had success from here in the past, but he will need to break in order to contend tonight.

7. Hallo Mitch (Flying Penske - Sol Sassy) is probably the other best greyhound at the racetrack right now. He has won four of six and ten of his last fifteen races. He has been coming out of the box in a hurry and that has led to some pretty tremendous victories. In those wins, he has flirted with the track record on a couple of occasions, missing by just a lengths in one of those starts. From the inside or the outside he is dangerous and if he does make the lead, the race tonight will be for place.

8. Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) is a great running greyhound on the lead and recently that is just where she has been at the start of the race. Winning back to back races in box to wire fashion, Next Level is on a roll and looks to keep it going in this effort tonight. Posted up well here away from the crowd, she could just hit the lid and prove to be a major force once again tonight. Without the front she has been suspect in the past, so she will need to be on top of her game in this one.

The way I see this very tough race is for Hallo Mitch to come out running. This greyhound is a monster on the front end and with the outside post, he should have some room to run early on. He will rush to early control tonight and maintain throughout for the win. Chasing him the entire way will be Rays Balto. Another strong competitor, but just not enough early speed to take Mitch out of his game on the lead. If they both decide to go to the turn together, this is going to be a match-up for the ages. A knock-down, drag-out, battle royal for the win. Uss Fine Touch should also get a piece of this pie. She is posted up well on the inside and has enough early, and raw, speed to go with the leaders from the box all the way to the finish line. Besides, she needs to make some sort of amends for getting run by in her last effort. Cleaning up the rest at the finish line for the final spot in the superfecta should be Dirty Picture. You know he will be closing fast and coming on strong to challenge late in this effort, just like he has done in his last 6 races in a row. I know the 5 box is not the rail, but all he has to do is run his race and he should be able to beat the rest to the finish line. Winning is a stretch here, but in the money is not.

With all this fun and excitement going on, you would be crazy not to come on out to the Orange Park Kennel Club and get in on the prizes, cash, and world class greyhound racing on Saturday evening December 12.

Be a part of the action at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Race Breakdown for 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile

Saturday - 12/5/2009

The finals of the 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile will run in the 11th race on Saturday Evening December 5th at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Below is a breakdown of the greyhounds and my take on the race.

1. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) is the best closer in this race and from a very good post position, she is going to be a favor in this race. In the 3rd round she won by almost 10 lengths from this post and ran the fastest of any remaining qualifiers with a 30.44 second clocking. She will need to come out close though if she wants a shot at the win tonight. The post makes her a serious threat!

2. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) was a strong factor throughout in all of the qualifying rounds and tied for the lead in points with a pair of wins. He has a strong break and has been running well beyond his experience. The rail post goes a long way to help him out in this effort too. If he can continue to get out of the starting box, he should be right in the thick on things again in this effort.

3. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) will be the post time favorite in this race. She was the only greyhound to win 3 of the 4 qualifying rounds, and posses all the tools needed to win this title. She has a great break and a tremendous rush to the turn, and once in front she is tough as nails on the lead. If she does get her nose in front early on, this field is going to be hard pressed to take her down before the finish line. This race is hers to lose.

4. Wp's Rainbow (Maryville Rumble* - Icu Greta) really stepped up during the qualifying rounds and really raced a bit above her head. She went toe to toe with everyone and found her way into this final round race. Loads of pressure might be on her shoulders as she has to juggle Kennel and Family pride. B & J has won 4 straight puppy stakes and her Mom, Icu Greta, won this very race in 2003. If she wants a chance to win it, she will need to come out in a hurry and keep living the dream.

5. On The Fly (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) is a strong closer that might be better suited for 660 yards, but here she sits in the finals of a stakes event. Tough post draw here as she would rather be on the edges, but she has done fairly well for herself in her last two from this starting box. Don't count her out just yet, she has won big time too over 550 yards and if the mood suits her, she could just fire to the front and leave the rest behind. She is a real question mark in this race, so let's see if she shows up.

6. Never Can Tell (Tnt Star Wars - Raw Passion) did just what she needed to do to make the finals by winning in the 4th round and now we have to see what she is going to do with the opportunity. Living up to her name in every start, you NEVER CAN TELL which greyhound is going to show up. The one that we have seen in the stakes, break, rusher, competitor, or the one that loaps around the track and finishes out of the money. Tonight the non-rail post might be a factor, but breaking is really the key to her success. If she stands any chance, she needs to channel her inner breaker in this race.

7. Never Relinquish (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) is the littermate to On The Fly and even though they come from different kennels, the rest remains very similar. Like her sister, she is a big time late speed greyhound that has won races over the 660 yard course too. Here she might be a bit over her head against these true grade A sprinters, but so far so good. Her only win in qualifying came from an outside post and tonight that is just where she starts from. It will take her best effort if she wants to upset this field tonight.

8. Miss Romy (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) might not be the name you expected from DQ, but it's the one you get. This puppy loves the rail and will have to do whatever she can from the 8 box. Working for her is her break and rush. She should be able to outdo several greyhounds to her inside and that will just help her get closer to her beloved rail in this effort. She does have some of the late DQ magic on tap and if she can use it properly, she might have a chance to get DQ to the winner's circle once again tonight.

Ok now for the race. At the break I see Uss Fine Touch hitting the lid and jumping to the early lead over the rest of the field. She will be followed closely by Gm's Cashman and Miss Romy on the outside. Gs Ashlynn will be lurking just off on the rail followed by the rest of the field. At the 1st turn Fine Touch will be in command of this race and Romy drops down to the rail from the outside and Cashman continues to stalk. Down the backside is where Ashlynn will start to make her move. She will catch up to the stalker by the far turn and as they all turn from home, It's going to turn into a race. Fine Touch will be holding her margin over the rest of the field as Ashlynn comes flying home. Romy and Cashman will be in the hunt as well as they all creep closer and closer to the finish line. Fine Touch wins it in a thriller as Ashlynn just misses. Romy settles for show and Cashman rounds out the superfecta.

Tri-Super Getting Close!

The Tri-super is getting close to capping! Might get there tonight! If it does, it will be forced out tomorrow matinee. Keep an eye on it!

Weekend Update!

Friday - 11/13/2009

As normal we have some great races this weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club, but if you stayed tuned we have some extra distance fun for those loving the longer routes.

Most of the time we gets one added distance race throughout the grade A races on Friday and Saturday evenings, but this time around we get a pair of 660 yard affairs to cap off both of the evenings.

Sprinkled in before that will be our great fields of grade A greyhounds. From the puppies getting ready for the stakes, to the veterans and big names on the circuit, the fields will be competitive and fun to watch.

Starting right off in the 7th race on the card for Friday Evening the old girls and guys get a chance to show that they still have what it takes to win. Citation Cam has won more races here than a bunch of greyhounds and knows how to get to the finish line with the early lead in a race. Breaking from the 1 box she is going to be extra tough, especially since she has decided to start breaking again. Out and gone early on and surviving late for the win. Closing at her thru this entire event will be Deco Daron Hart. Another a little bit long in the tooth greyhound, Daron still has what matters most, HEART! This greyhound gives his all in each and every effort and even though he doesn't win as much as he could, he always is a threat to do so in any race. Here the 5 box is not his friend but know for sure in the stretch, he will be around! Hallo Triple A is another greyhound that has shown several times in the past that he can take home the cheese. Here the outside post might get him clear and if he makes the lead, the race just might be for place tonight. He is extremely tough on top, but if he is not close early, it could be a different story. I go for the earlier not the latter and expect him to factor throughout tonight. Miss Romy is the puppy in the bunch and she is still learning how to get things done against the big boys! Her biggest hurdle here is the post position. She likes it wide and has to make due from the 3 box at the break. Working for her is her late speed! Let's see if she can get close early and drive home to challenge here.

More veterans in race 10 and this pair has some serious closing ability. Pru Whistler has posted up back to back wins and three in her last 5 starts, but all of those efforts came from the inside post positions. Tonight she is starting out in the 6 box and the outcome might be a bit different. She still is the best late speed greyhound in this race and if she decides to come out close once again, this race will be over early on. The Night of Stars XXII winner, Pru gets the hat trick in this effort. Challenging the leader will be T Dizzle and why? The call it the 8 box! She is a whole different greyhound when she starts out wide and if she wants to run, she will be in the thick of things at the finish line. Here she is running off a win, be it a grade B one, but still it came from the same 8 box that she has in this effort. Either way you think it runs, these two are the keys in this effort. Leading the way early might be Cjc's Knock Out. Knock Out has really flashed some early speed in her last couple of races and in turn she has finished well at the wire. She won one race and was beaten by a head in the other by the aforementioned Pru Whistler. With no big early speed greyhound around her, this race is hers to control. Let's see if she can upset the big boys and girls on the front end here. Another greyhound that might get overlooked and needs to be considered is Where's Playpen. This greyhound has been in grade A for 6 races in a row and has finished in the money in 4 of those starts. Not the flashest of greyhounds, she just keeps plugging along and every now and then she sneaks up on everyone and wins one. She is probably the only greyhound in the race that might have a shot at the early lead besides Knock Out, and if she gets there she might have an outside shot tonight. More likely she chases close throughout and gets outfinished in the super, but hey everyone has to dream, don't wreck hers.

Race 11 is a good early speed match up and recent addition Kay Sara Brian gets ready to take on Hanks Diana. Both greyhound can get out of the box in a hurry and can take over a race from the get go, but Brian has just a bit better raw speed and that might be the difference tonight. Brian also gets a great outside post and he should get a clean run to the 1st turn and that could be a difference maker too. Hard to ignore 30.21 which he ran 3 races back. Moving back to 550 in this effort, Brian gets back in the circle. Diana has to be considered here too. No chump, she has won 3 of her last 6 races and finished in the trifecta in 5 of those starts. Her only out was her last race and that came from a similar midtrack post position. Tonight look for her to shake off the rust and get back to basics, BREAKING! If she does fire to the lead, she has the ability to take home the win. Kiowa Vanessa is a solid grade A greyhound that has enough of a late kick to be dangerous in the later stages of this race. She will have to work a bit though as she is WIDE, WIDE, WIDE and will have to make due from the 3 box. Will she be close enough early to have a shot at the leaders before the finish line here? We will have to wait and see. Jayvan is the typical greyhound from the DQ Williams Kennel. A CLOSER! Forget about that late race, that is what I am telling you. It was trouble ridden and doesn't reflect the abilities of this greyhound. Look before and beyond that race. How about 11 races in a row in the money? Or what about 16 of 19 in the superfecta? Sounds good to me and that is just what she did previous to that effort. No problem inside or outside and 7 box will be a fine place to start from. Don't look for her early as she has never held the lead at the 1st turn, but in the stretch she will be a force to be reckoned with. Winning here is a stretch, but under on your wagers, she is pretty much a mainstay.

The first of two 660 yard races on the weekend come in the 15th race for Friday Evening and who leads the way early, none other than Hobo Dan. Ok, ok, ok, I know, I don't know how long he will hold it either, but you have to love the effort. He is a monster on the front end and if keeps breaking he is going to give everything he has all the way until either the finish line or when he gets overtaken. Flanking him are some super closers in this field and if he wants to win he is going to have to steal a ton of lengths early on. Still it's tough to pick against a greyhound that has won 2 races in a row, 3 in his last 4 starts, and beat almost the same exact field in his last effort. Out and gone early, DAN is the MAN again! Now for the closers. They need no introduction. LOL! Guess where 2 of the 3 are from? Got one guess? Yep, DQ Williams and one is even a stakes winner. Racheal Lee won the 2008 James J Patton Marathon and even though this is a shorter distance, she is on the rail and that is always good for her. She has tremendous closing speed and if she gets around cleanly, no lead may be safe in this effort. Look for her to make it interesting, but she might just run out of real estate late like she did in her last effort. On The Fly has really taken to the added distance course and this B & J Runner has not missed the money in any of her 4 660 yard efforts. Her first was the most impressive as she posted a superb 37.73 second run as she won by 9 lengths. The 2 box is not the 8, but still she has been competitive from inside as well. Just look at her last race where she missed Dan by a nose at the wire. Tonight same post, same result? Maybe. Power Exchange is the second from DQ and he too has the closing gene. He has really come into his own over the last couple of months over 660 yards, we just wish he would start to motor a bit earlier in races. He has not enough room at the end of the race and that is why he has not been getting up for the victories. He has, however, finished in the money in 5 of his last 6 races, including starts from the outside part of the racetrack. If he can follow Dan out of the box early, there could be a new Exchange rate on Friday evening.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday - 11/14/2009

Now for the puppies to start making some noise in the 7th race for Saturday Evening at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Leading the way Gm's Cashman. Ok, I know this might be a bit of a stretch against the competition in this field, but everything seems to be falling in place for him in this effort. He gets a post away from the crowd in the 1 box and should get a good clean run to the turn. He has a couple of A's under his best now and knows just what to expect, and he has already shown that he has the speed to compete at this level of competition. He has won almost half of his lifetime starts and rebounded nicely last time out to finish in the money after a rough trip in his previous start. He will have to step up here to win, but I think he breaks, gets to the lead, and has a welcome to the party moment at the finish line. Jean's Heidi will most likely be the favorite to win this race and if she wants to run and puppy might just be in trouble at the finish line. She has tremendous closing ability and will be coming on in a hurry in the stretch once again in this effort. She fell in her last race, so forgetaboutit and move on. Previous she has won twice in her last 5 effort and finished in the trifecta on 4 occasions. Midtrack is almost the rail, LOL!, so whatever she needs to do to contend, she will in this one. Deerfield Moss is the main threat in this effort. He has won several times in grade A on the circuit and knows how to get up in time for the win. Like Heidi, Moss is a closer too and will most likely be making his run at the leaders to vie for the win in the deep stretch again tonight. In his last 6 races he has been in the trifecta 5 times and that is where he will find himself again tonight. Post is a plus, he likes it wide and gets the 7 box here, and it might just be enough to push him over the edge in time if everything else falls into place for him in this effort. Now for the don't forget about me greyhound, Pak Penny Lane. Why? The 1 box of course. This greyhound loves the rail and gets the railest of rail posts in this effort. She might be a little all or nothing, but as of late she has been all a bit more than nothing. Winning 2 of her last 6 races and finished a close 2nd in the other from this very same post position, she has to be considered a factor at least in this race. If she does decide to hit the lid and break away from the field, you might want to back up the wheelbarrows as the tote board might just be lit up like a Christmas Tree at the finish line.

Early speed fest again in the 11th race on the card as the Red hot Kb's Next Level takes on the upstart Where's Lil Tiny in the ankle burner special. Next level certainly gets the nod in this effort as she not only has the all out raw speed advantage, she has post advantage too. She should get a clean run to and thru the 1st turn from the 8 box in this effort. Just look at her lines. She has won 2 races in a row and 3 in her last 4 starts and in each she was long gone in the early stages. Here I don't think she will win for fun and might even have to come from just off the pace to get it done, but she gets it done in time. Where's Lil Tiny has stormed onto the scene with 3 monster races in a row. She won two of those start and was just a head away from the 3 peat. She has blazing early speed and has not been touched from the box to the turn in any of those 3 starts. Breaking from a near midtrack post, she should be the one to catch again in this effort. Oh, and did I mention that her mom is CM LIL BIT? Well I did now so it should not be that much of a surprise on her success. Also trying to throw his hat into the mix early will be recent addition Kiowa Stan Frank. Since arriving he has been a force in the majority of races that he has run in. Breaking is the key to his success and he will need to be close in order to be effective once again tonight. Last time out from this post position, he posted up a win in grade A. If all three of these greyhounds break and clear early, there is going to be a herd at the 1st turn and a battle for the lead and win throughout. Now for the closer! Miss Yue is a strong greyhound that will be coming from off the pace late in this effort. She likes it wide and gets to start out this one from a good almost wide 6 box. Like at DQ greyhounds, she runs her best in the stretch and will show up in this effort. Two starts ago she broke and went untouched for the win, don't expect that here, but she does have enough to factor with the big time early speeders in the stretch. Making it a bit interesting late, she factors in the money once again tonight.

The final race on the card and for the big races from the weekend is the 15th for Saturday evening over the 660 yard course. Yep, the second on the weekend and it is still full of talent. Let's get into it with the 8 greyhound, La's Lucy. Lucy is fitting right in over the 660 yard course as she has been in the money in 5 of her 6 starts and has won twice in very speedy times. She likes it outside and gets the 8 box and that will be enough to get her back into the top spot at the wire tonight. Making her work for it will be Gs Kruz. Kruz has found his break and he has been terrorizing fields on the front end over his last 3 races in a row. Granted he has only won one of those efforts, but they have had to run a huge race to get to him before the finish line. Money should be his name! Since returning to 660 yards in early October, he has not missed the trifecta. Yep, 8 races in a row where he has finished in the top 3 positions at the wire. More of the same tonight. Xtra Style upset everyone in her last race as she decided that she wanted to run and well, everyone else had to settle for a spot behind her at the wire. She has won twice in her last 3 starts and has been in the money in 4 of her last 6 efforts. She has great closing ability and will be showing it off once again in this effort. Breaking from a near rail post in the 3 box, everything is in place for another big effort tonight. Watch out for her in the deep stretch as she tries to get to the leaders again before the wire. Lover Girl Bambi might have faltered in her last race, but previous to that she had won 3 times and was in the quiniela in 5 races in a row from several different post position. Breaking close might held her effort, but she has enough left in the tank in any race to be effective in the stretch too. Her only problem here will be getting to the rail. That is where she really wants to be. If she does break close, she has the ability to win this race. Don't count her out in this effort.

The Clash - Two of our best LOCK UP!

Friday - 10/23/2009

Not only will there be great greyhound racing this weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club, the best of the best, the biggest of the big, and the fastest of the fast will be on hand to compete for victory in their respective races.

Over both 550 and 660 yards, the big names will also be accompanied by some rising stars, and other veterans, that will be looking to take down the superstars before the finish line.

And let's all remember that every DOG has it's day and just because the name might not be recognizable, there is a reason the greyhound is in grade A to start with. The little names must be looked at too if the situation fits, which is could in some of the races this weekend.

Time for the first race of the series and it comes on Friday evening in the 7th on the card. This race should be a highly contested event with loads of evenly matched up greyhounds sprinting out and to the first turn, but it will be hard to pick against Deerfield Can. Can has won 2 races in a row and draws another favorable post position tonight near the rail. His break has been the key to his success and it should come out running once again in this effort. If he can make the front, it's going to be a 3-peat tonight. Upstart Sobe Cream Puff might have gotten creamed in her first effort in grade A, but she was in ultra tough. Tonight the field might be a bit more to her liking and the 4 box is at lease a bit closer to the rail than the 5 was last time out. Breaking well will be the key to this puppies success too. We know she has the skills to win at this level, she just needs to show up and prove it against the best at the racetrack. Speaking of showing up, you never have to worry about this next guy! Cjc's Buckshot gives his all in each and every effort and will do so again in this race. With 6 races in a row in the trifecta in grade A, you know just what you are going to get, but winning might be another story. He has only taken home the top spot in 1 of those races, and that was 3 races ago. We all know he has the talent to win this effort, he just needs to get out of the box a bit better to get it done. If he waits too long early on, he will just be closing late for another in the money finish. Jayvan is the other strong closer in this field and like Buckshot, she too will be coming on in a hurry in the stretch. The post is not the best, but if she can get inside just a bit, it really won't matter all that much. Over her last 6 races she has not missed the money and has taken home victories on 2 occasions. If the mood suits her, she too could take home the victory in this effort.

Race 10 is the match-up of the whole weekend. If you can see just one race, this one is the one to catch. Talk about a match-up! It might was well be a match race, or a stakes final! Recent 50 race winner Count Ivan gets to take on the ultra dangerous Ru Tuff Enuf. As always, there are fans in each camp and if either one of them decides to run his race, either one could put a hurting on the other. Recently Ivan has had the upper edge. He has won 5 of 6 starts including a run of 4 in a row, and did I mention that he has been doing it from behind too? Growing up at the right time, Ivan gets the slight edge in my book. Now don't discount Tuff Enuf though. Sure he might run hot and cold at times, but when he is on, he is burning, scalding, surface of the sun, hot! Just look at his last two wins. Ok, I know they were 5 races apart, but you can't ignore 30.29 and 30.32 se3conds. Bother of those times blow by anything Ivan has but up in his last 6 trips and just proves what he can do in the open. Both greyhounds are posted up well and if they both come out running, this could be a battle royal from start to finish. Others to play on the undercard would have to be the impressive puppy Fay's Fonda and Kiowa Stan Cay. Fonda might not be winning a ton of races, but he is around throughout in almost all of the ones that he runs in. He has not missed the money in 6 races in a row in grade A and with a strong rail post tonight, I expect more of the same. I don't see an upset, but in the money, third best, yep! Stan might have not looked all that great in his last couple of efforts, but previous to that he had been in the quiniela in 4 races in a row. Post will be his biggest hurdle in this race, but if Tuff Enuf breaks, he will have all kinds of room to get to the turn. Another greyhound that is not all the flashy, but effective, so consider him in the second half of your tickets tonight.

Post will make the difference in the 11th race on the card as Bl Punch N Judy is a rail running machine. From the one box this greyhound is MONEY! She has won 4 of her 7 starts and has yet to finish out of the top 4 positions. Breaking and running well as of late, she has 5 of 6 in the trifecta, tonight she gets back winning from this ultimate post position. Fth Keystone Kid is no slouch herself and I think she is getting tired of finishing second. She was just about to win in her last two races in a row and then that darn Kiowa Swizzle had to go and run her down for the win. No Swizzle here and that might just be all she needs to take home a win in this effort. Ok, the outside post should help too, but talent is all she need and trust me when I say she has that. With 4 of her last 6 efforts in the trifecta from similar post positions, expect more of the same tonight. Deerfield Moss is a super closer that is going to be coming on strong at the end of this race to challenge. He can pick up the best of them is he is close enough early, and even if he breaks slowly, he can still run down some on the late lead. Like his counterparts he has been hot as of late with 5 efforts in a row in the money. That run includes 2 wins but both of those came from the far outside post position. Can the early speed hold throughout, or will the closer get to everyone before the finish line? THAT is Moss's big question that he needs to answer tonight. Where's Playpen is another good early speed greyhound that should be pushing the pace throughout in this effort. She has not missed the trifecta in 6 races in a row and comes into this effort with a win in her last race in grade A. She has not made the front in any of those starts and has been running tough without the lead for over a month. The 8 box will not be her friend in this race as she would much rather be inside, but if she can stalk early, she should be able to hold tough throughout and find a spot in the superfecta again at the finish line.

Capping off the evening is another 550 yard race and in the 15th the fastest greyhound ever at the Orange Park Kennel Club straps on the muzzle and looks for yet another win. Kiowa Swizzle is getting better with age and the scary thing is that he is learning how to win races without the front end. He has posted up wins in 5 of his last 6 efforts and he has come from off the pace to win his last two races in a row. Here is starts out from his favorite post position, the 8 box, and it should be off to the races early on. The real question in this race is who is going to run second? Well there are plenty of closer to fill that role, but I'll go with the only other somewhat early speed greyhound. Uss Fine Touch is still a bit of a closer, but she does break better then than majority of this field. Working in her favor tonight is the one box. She should get a clean lane to the turn tonight and that will go a long way to help her in this effort. She is running hot too, with 3 wins in her 6 straight trifecta finishes, the pedal is to the metal in again in this effort. Now on to the duo that will be coming from nowhere to challenge for next best in this effort. Just Say So and Deco Daron Hart are both big time finishers that have loads of experience and talent behind each and every one of their makeup steps. Either one of these two could upset, if they could ever get out of the starting box, but I don't think tonight is that night. Say So gets the slight edge due to post position and back to back winning efforts from way behind early on, but let's not leave out the veteran. he has been no slouch with 3 efforts in a row in the superfecta and a win 5 races back in impressive fashion. Locking up late, the best part of the race to watch tonight might just be the stretch run.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday - 10/24/2009

Now the 7th race for Saturday evening might not have the name power as the rest of them, but it is still a highly competitive race and should be a fun one to watch. Anyone might have a shot at taking home the victory here, so let's go with our best guess. Gs Craig leads the way and even though it have been awhile since he has posted up a win, he has been high competitive in his last 5 races in a wow. He has not missed the superfecta in any of those race and that includes a run of 4 races in a row where he finished 2nd at the wire. Post is not an issue with him here and it's time to get off the snide and get up for the win tonight. Kiowa Vanessa has a similar take with red hot running, but she gets the added bonus of a great post position to break from. She likes it wide and has flourished in the past from this very post. Her last win came from the 6 box and she backed that up with another in the money effort in her next effort. She has the skills to win and if she gets loose early on, they all might be trying to get to her before the finish line. La's Butch is back in grade A and although he is not his brother, ANTHONY, he does have some chops of his own, especially from the rail post positions. Tonight he starts out in the 2 box and that is close enough for him to be effective. Like other DQ greyhounds, he is mainly a closer that can get close on occasion and take home an easy win. With a pair of wins and 3 trifecta efforts in his last 5 races, he must be considered a threat tonight from this great starting box. Ctw Anti Gravity might be moving back to grade A in this effort, but don't let the lower lines fool you. She can hang with the best of them and has done some in several races. Tonight from the outside, she should get a clean run to the turn and that might be all she needs to surprise the field in this effort. Besides, did you look at the lines she ran before getting back to A? They are pretty strong, 3 in a row in the trifecta! Rested and ready to romp, she plays a big role in the outcome of this race tonight.

Now for the big brother! La's ANTHONY is back in grade A and back winning at the Orange Park Kennel Club. This greyhound is a monster on the front end and that is just where he is going to be at the start of this race. He has extra room early on with the 4 box and with 3 wins in his last 4 races he seems like the logical choice to win, but not so fast my friend says Hanks Diana. She is also a breaker and has won back to back races in grade A in her last 2 efforts. The only drawback for her here is the post position. She likes it nearer the rail than the 6 box, but if she breaks it really won't matter all that much. If she can clear with Anthony to the turn, it is going to be quite a race to witness. Hallo Mr Great is also an early speed greyhound in a good post, but he is way too short at the end of the race to steal away the victory. But that is not the end of the story for him. He has enough early to get into contention with the leaders and once he is hanging around, he normally does it all the way to the finish line. He has been in the superfecta in 4 races in a row and tonight the trend doesn't stop. Look for another strong stalking effort throughout as he continues the streak. Fay's Redford needs to be close early on in order to be effective, and frankly I don't know if tonight is the night or not. When she is on, she is a handful, but when she is off, she is not going to threaten anyone for a money position. Just look at her lines and you will see just what I mean. She has finished in the trifecta in 3 of her last 6 efforts and in each of those starts she was in contention early on as they ran to the first turn. Helping her tonight is the post positions as she likes to race wide and the 7 box is far enough outside in order to be effective tonight.

Capping off the evening in the final race on the card is a great 660 yard affair where early meets late speed. Clearly Kiowa Deli Dee is going to be in the early lead in this race, but can she steal enough early and get some help behind in order to win? NO! The Power is changing hands here, ok well EXCHANGEing hands. Power Exchange is in the one box and that really is all you need to know in this race. He is a monster from the inside and like most DQ greyhounds he can come from off the pace and get the job done in the stretch. Don't look for him to be 3 in front or anything, but in the stretch he will prove best in this effort. Now on to his kennelmate, Love Girl Tiffy. Tiffy is back! She has started to break again and when this greyhound is close early, she is tough to keep out of the winner's circle. She has won back to back races in close fashion and took down all 4 of the top competitors in this race in their last effort together. Tonight she puts up another strong bid, just a bit short of the win at the finish line. Gs Kruz is back here too and even though he might not make the lead, he will be a force to be reckoned with in this effort. Why? He loves this starting box. Every time he starts out in the 8 box, he is a threat and if you don't believe me, just look at his lines. He has not missed the money in his last 4 efforts from the outside post position. Look for him to factor in every step he takes tonight. Now back to Deli Dee. In the lead in 5 of her last 6 races, so you know where to find her early on in this one, in front! But she has only won 1 of those starts, so weakening in the stretch is what she is going to do again in this race. She is short, but not short enough to finish out of the money. She has been there in 7 races in a row and 10 of her last 11 starts. If she can get some help behind early, she might have a chance to hold on at the wire for the upset tonight!

DURABILITY

Gm's Michelle (Rapido Rambo-Everlastingbliss) is the model of DURABILITY, and all you have to do to realize this is look at her lines.

After racing at several greyhound ractracks, Gm's Michelle has just vaulted over the 300 start line. Her last effort was the 301 in her career, with the majority of those starts coming at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

What might even be more impressive is that only 6 of her 199 races at the Orange Park Kennel Club were run over the longer distances. That's right she runs mostly over 660 and 770 yards and most of the time she has been competing against the best greyhounds at the racetrack.

Currently she is in grade C, but she has won in grade A and gave fits to several greyhounds throughout in her great career.

The good news is that she is not done yet. She still is a strong factor in almost all of her races and even though she is approaching her 6th, yes that is right, birthday, she still has the moves of a young pup.

Experience, durability, and determination are 3 good words to sum up this fantastic greyhound.

Congratulation head out to the Willis Kennel, Owners Gary and Sharon, Trainer Jerry Rhodes and everyone else connected with this fine greyhound.

Weekend Recap

Friday was a hot night for the DQ Williams Kennel as they posted up 4 wins on the card. Puppies Bad For Ya and Miss Sylvie both showed up early on to start out the night right and then it was left up to the veterans. Casual Country was in grade D and we all know what happened when she made the lead, game over, and Jeans Hiedi posted up her second win in a row in grade A.

Lester Raines was not going to be outdone that much though, he too had a solid night. He won three races but what made them all the more impressive was that they we all in grade A. Uss Out Of Sight, Fay's Redford, and Rooftop Queen B, all ruled over their 550 yard fields to win.

On Saturday the torch moved kennels and the hot hands were the B & J Racing Kennel, in the matinee, and the PTL Kennel in the evening.

B& J put up 4 wins on the board with Packer Backer, Monster puppy Wp's Rosewood, Grade A winner Hanks Diana, and On The Fly.

PTL won 5 races on the night with the help of a few Sunsand greyhounds, namely Sallymay, Scoobie and Fannymay. The other two winners were M's Johnwilliams and Cajun Gusto.

Sunday was a different kind of story as the kennels might have cooled off a bit, but the big time names didn't disappoint.

After a few lackluster efforts, Ru Tuff Enuf decided that he wanted to run and simple destroyed the field in the process. Out and gone early on he won by 7.5 lengths and posted up the fastest time of the weekend at 30.32 second.

Kiowa Swizzle also won his race, and even though it wasn't all that fast a time, he did it from off the pace. Now that is a big effort for a greyhound that normally wants the lead alone to show his stuff.

Other notables were Just Say So and Kiowa Kay Wilbur who both made their way back to the grade A ranks with wins.

Tebow Already Playing on Sunday

Well at least HMS Tebow is! LOL! This strong looking puppy from the Robert Hume kennel is making an impression even though he has only had a couple off official races under his belt.

Sure he might have been a bit short in his very first schooling race, but since he has been prefect.

He won his next schooling race by 6 lengths and then backed that up with a win in maiden by 3 lengths and a win in grade D by 10. Both of those efforts were in a speedy 30.92 second time, which is comparable to ones run by grade A greyhounds on the card.

Posted outside again in the 2nd race on the card for Sunday Afternoon October 18th, Tebow is ready to take on the competition and bull rush his way to the front and off to the race for another touchdown.

Hume has another upstart that you might want to take notice of too.

Sobe Cream Puff only had one hiccup on her way to grade A as she ran into trouble and finished 6th in her first attempt at grade B.

Beside that effort she is undefeated and has posted up some tremendous efforts. She is averaging wins by 7 lengths and most of the times have been right around the fastest on the card.

Running in her first grade A race on Sunday too, Cream Puff will have her paws full in this one. Welcoming her to the top ranks will be some of the best and hottest greyhounds at the racetrack. Heard of Ru Tuff Enuf? How about BL Punch N Judy? What about Deerfield Moss? Or fellow phenom Wp's Commodore? Truly she has the talent to compete, but it is going to have to have her A+++ game if she wants to run with these proven grade A veterans.

Almost a Track Record

Once again the James E O'donnell kennel is flirting with the track record. Currently they hold the record with Kiowa Swizzle, but on Monday evening another greyhound got in on the action.

Hallo Mitch, who has just recently returned to live racing, broke from the 8 box and left the field in his wake in the 10th race on the card. Within a few strides he was clear on the lead and from that point on it just got ugly! He increased his lead with each and every step in this race and crossed the finish line 9 lengths clear of his next closest competitor. And the time? Well it was 30.19 seconds which is just .07, or 1 length, off of the current mark of 30.12 seconds.

10th Grade: A Distance: 550 Condition: Fast

Hallo Mitch 71.5 8 5 1 3 1 9 1 9 30.19 0.80 Blistering Pace Rail

Never Can Tell 58 6 1 2 2 2 9 30.81 16.90 Held Distant Place

Rays Pride 68.5 1 2 3 3 3 13.5 31.13 9.50 Lasted For Show

Dirty Picture 73 3 4 6 5 4 14 31.17 3.10 Traffic 1st Turn

Pat C Morganica 62 5 6 4 4 5 16 31.30 24.40 Jammed Back Early

Hanks Diana 61.5 7 7 5 6 6 18 31.44 8.30 Shutoff At Break

Hanks Marsbar-iu 70 4 8 7 7 7 19 31.52 13.90 Jammed, Bmpd Early

Gs Montana Sky 67 2 3 8 8 8 21.5 31.70 12.20 Outrun To 1st Turn

James E. O'donnell, Jr., W Bk, M, 01/20/07, FLYING PENSKE - SOL SASSY

This win was Mitch's 3rd in his last 4 efforts since returning from a 2 month layoff. Things are looking up and this effort was a career best, and remember there is plenty of time for more wins as Mitch won't be 3 years old until the end of January!

Good luck in the future!

Weekend Warriors

This past weekend had some exciting things going on and here is just a quick glimpse at the highlights.

On Friday evening it was nice to see the former stakes finalist, Kb's Next Level, show off some superior form. She bolted to the early lead in her race and keep command throughout to win easily in a speedy 30.32 second clocking.

Bl Punch N Judy left nothing to chance either. She beat the box and took down a tough field on the front end which included Orange Park superstar Ru Tuff Enuf. Although it was a slim win, she still shows them she can win without the one box.

Veteran Dirty Picture didn't disappoint in his race at all. He did it is a little bit different fashion though as he broke close, stalked throughout, and closed hard in the final few strides to get up for the win.

Only one thing needs to be said about Saturday Matinee and that would be THE COUNT CONTINUES ON! Count Ivan stretched his current win streak to 4 races in a row and 5 in his last 6 starts. What is even more impressive is that for the second race in a row he came from behind to get up at the wire for the win. That takes him to 30 on the year and 49 in his career.

Saturday evening the spot play came thru as La's Lucy won her very first 660 yard race. She has been begging for a long time to go this far and make the most of it. It was also quite a good evening for DQ has they took home wins in 6 of the 15 races on the card.

Sunday came and DQ continued to run hot. Puppy Miss Romy won again easily and makes it to grade B unscathed. La's Anthony took home another win too with a box to wire trip around the oval. This was his second in a row. Recent Stakes finalist, Cjc's Buckshot, posted up the effort of the day though. He cruised to win by almost 7 in the fastest time on the card. And as always watch for spot plays! Kiowa Guv Water was close enough to the rail to win again and move back to grade A in the last race on the card.

Big Efforts on Monday Evening

What a great night of racing on Monday Evening. Not only did the puppies get in on the winning acts, so did the big time names.

Littermates, Gs Speedo and Gs Ocean Blue (Deerfield Site* - Steffie's Charm), both took home wins for the Willis kennel in their maiden races, but they did it in different fashion. Speedo when to the lead and coasted for the win in the 3rd, but Ocean Blue had to rally in the stretch to prove best at the wire in the 5th.

Count Ivan started off the big name rally toward the end of the card in the 10th race. Talk about getting back into form! Ivan really ran a huge race. Know for stealing leads and punishing fields, Ivan didn't live up to that billing. Here he didn't make the front and kept running thruout to get up in the deep stretch for the victory. This win was his third in a row and his fourth in five races. Everyone better watch out, the man is back on track.

No one ran better than track record holder Kiowa Swizzle though! Talk about a big effort. How about box to wire romp in 30.36 seconds? Sounds good to me and everyone else at the racetrack. Going off as the overwhelming favoring, Swizzle also breezed to his third win in a row at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

One more big effort was left on the table and even though it was a grade B win, Racheal Lee finally looked like her oldself again! She poorly, not really, lol, and decided that she needed to start closing about the middle of race. In the stretch no one was going to deny her the win and no one did. She was all out flying home and stole away the victory in the final couple of strides.

Cream Puff? I think Not! - Puppy Sobe Cream Puff tearing up the racetrack.

The puppy stakes might just be turning into quite a race here at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Several Kennels have thrown in their hats and having started to make a push for that golden ring.

Most recently is the Robert Hume Kennel. For those of you elsewhere you might know the SOBE prefix, and I'm sure you have seen some good greyhounds at Bluffs Run and Lincoln that he owns.
The best so far that he has brought here is Sobe Cream Puff (Kiowa Mon Manny - Lil Latin Salupe). This puppy has done everything right so far, and the scary part is that this greyhound has gotten better in each and every start. The times keep getting quicker and quicker and the break and remained the same.

Talk about making an impression, Cream Puff posted up a wins in schooling by 4 and 9 lengths and easily ran away from her maiden field to cross 7 lengths clear in a personal best of 31.01. Nice, but her grade D race was even more impressive. Jumping right to the early lead she left the field in her lurch as she pummeled them. Crossing the wire 11 1/2 lengths clear of her next closest competition, she put up an ultra fast 30.58 second run, which is comparable to a fast grade A winning time on any card.

Big things are expected from this youngster and the good news is that she still has some time to even fine tune her craft before the first round of the puppy stakes even starts next month.

Good luck and future success to this incredible looking puppy and thanks to Robert Hume for sending us a good one to watch here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Good News for Penny Candy

I head yesterday that if everything goes according to plan, the return of 2008 All-American Penny Candy might happen before the end of the year.

Since she has been gone maybe you have forgotten, but she is currently sitting at 76 career wins which is just 4 shy of the magic number of 80.

She was also the winners of the 2009 Orange Park Derby of 660 yards and the 2009 James J Patton Marathon Stakes over 770 yards.

The best router at the racetrack, Penny is on her way back!!!

Rs Libby Lu Headed to Wheeling

That's right the reigning Queen of the Orange Park Kennel Club, Rs Libby Lu, is headed on a trip, but it is not one of leisure and relaxation. Libby is headed to Wheeling Island Casino and Racetrack to get ready to compete against the best the country has to offer up in the $100,000 Wheeling Invitational Race.

For those of you that don't know, Rs Libby Lu has really come into her own this year and the older that she has gotten the more consist she has performed on the racetrack. Libby was the runner up in the finals of the 2009 JGR Puppy Stakes in June, and then proved best in the finals of the Sunshine State Silver Cup in August.

Breaking well and using her blazing early speed is why she has been running tough and winning over and over again at the Orange Park Kennel Club. In her last 11 races, including the stakes rounds and the final, she has finished in the quiniela 10 times, and her current streak remains intact at 9 races in a row in the top 2 spots. Over that same span she has been in the lead at the first turn 8 times and has won 6 of those races.

Peaking at the right time, Libby should have a good shot to compete well as she switches racetracks. She has all the tools needed to run well there. Talent, check. Early Speed, check. Desire to win races, check.

So with all things in order, everyone here at the Orange Park Kennel Club is wishing our little girl good luck as she moves on to take on some very tough competition, but remember we will be cheering for you in each and every start.

GO GET EM LIBBY!

The Willis Kennel is Reloading

If you have been looking thru the schooling results over the last couple of weeks you would have to have noticed the nice looking couple of litters that the Willis Kennel has schooling in.

Most of the time beating maidens for fun might show that you have a little talent but when you start doing it with the best time in schooling, faster than the grade A's, well then you get a extra look.
What is even nicer for them is that they have 2 different litters that are both performing at a high level and winning and competing in each and every one of their schooling efforts.

The best of the first bunch out of Deerfield Site* and Steffie's Charm is Gs Ocean Blue. This greyhound won both of his schooling races for fun and was right around the quickest time for all of schooling in both trips.

Others in this litter include: Gs Hawk with a first and third in schooling, Gs Olivia with a first and a second in schooling, and Gs Speedo with a sixth and a win in schooling.

The second litter might even be more impressive out of Dodgem By Design and Gs Gertie. Only two of them to talk about but Gs Shabam is the cream of this short crop. He has won both of his schooling efforts and even though he is fast he might not be as fast as his littermate. Gs Rae ran faster than him in their last schooling efforts and posted up the quickest time on the schooling card on the way to completing his qualifying lines with a win, to go along with his second place finish in his first schooling race.

If that were not enough, how about a third litter to look at? Ok, since you asked. These guys might not be as fast or great as the others, but there are still young and there is plenty of time to develop, plus they might just be 660 yard greyhounds anyways.

This litter is out of Lewis And Wax and Gs Kayla. Sound familiar? It should this is the third litter to race here out of this breeding and the previous two produced grade A runners and stakes qualifiers. Watch out for Gs Angelo and Gs Jaxson in the future too as both have posted up a third and a second place finish in their two warm up efforts in schooling.

Things are looking good so far for these nice young puppies and if they mature quick enough, they might have plenty of darts to fire at the upcoming Jacksonville Juvenile which starts later on in November.

Great Match-Ups and Keys This Weekend

Friday - 9/25/2009

Loads of talent flow thru the top grade races at the Orange Park Kennel Club this weekend. Whether it be over 550 or 660 yards we bunch of the best greyhounds locking up in head to head competition. As always, there is a good mix of young and old, rising stars and cagey veterans, and stakes qualifiers and winners lurking to take home the top spot in their respective races.

What may set this weekend apart from any other is, there are some great keys and match-ups in almost all of the feature races. Some quiniela, trifectas, and even superfectas might be locks if everyone runs like they have in the past. Ready to cash some tickets? Tune in to find out how!

Starting off in the 7th race this field is going to be hard pressed to stop Cjc's Buckshot. This closing monster has his groove on as he has won 2 of his last 3 races since dead heating for show in the finals of the 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup. Working from an inside post should even help his effort, i.e., look 6 races back where he won from this very same spot in a qualifying round of the stakes. Trying to outdo him on the lead will be a duo of Kiowa Greyhounds. Both are pretty tough on or near the early lead so Tag Along and Samantha will both need to come out in a hurry in this one if they want to take home the top prize. Tag Along is riding high of a win in his last effort from a similar post position and remember that he too won a round in the stakes and just missed the finals. Samantha might not have competed but has a pair of grade a wins showing in her last 5 races and has only missed the pay sheet once during that time span. If either one wants to go to the lead, Buckshot will have to be locked and loaded to get the job done. Another puppy not to forget is Fay's Mcqueen. Sure he might be a little less speedy without the lead, but when he does break he is trouble for any field of greyhounds. He likes the inside and gets a good post here and with 3 wins in 6 starts, including a pair in grade A, he is a threat to win again tonight. It's all about the break for him too, come out close and it's going to be interesting.

Everyone will be watching in the 10th race to see if the streak can continue for La's Anthony. Prior to the stakes he won 4 races in a row, then during the rounds he finished 2nd in 4 races in a row. Making the finals he ran into a load of trouble and finished 6th. Since he has won 3 races in a row, so over his last 12 races he has won 7 times and finished in the quiniela in 11 starts. Tonight from maybe his favorite post, outside of the one box, Anthony breaks fast and adds another number to the streak total. Puppy Wp's Commodore won't let him get away that easy though. Breaking from a very favorable post position tonight, Commodore is just coming into his own as a top notch greyhound and could upset the veteran. With three wins and 6 quinielas in a row, he is running at peak performance, but this is no chump he will be chasing early on tonight. If he wants to take his game to the next level, he will have to really come out in a hurry in this one. Switzler Takeoff is another strong greyhound that has really taken to the racetrack since arriving from Wheeling. He might not have shown the speed so far as the other big boys, but that might all change for her in this effort. Moving up from grade D, she might be a bit overmatched in her very first grade A race here, but if she closes like she has been a spot in the cash shouldn't be a stretch. She has won 3 of her last 5 races and finished in the money in 6 of her 7 trips around the Orange Park oval. Breaking from a good post, expect another strong closing effort tonight. We would always be amiss if we left out T Dizzle, especially when she is in the on cycle. LOL! Ok, so she runs hot and cold at times, but you can't deny the all out raw speed that she has. Here the 5 box is not quite as wide as he last two efforts have been, but all she has to do is get close enough early on to stay interested. With Anthony coming out fast, she follows him to the turn and that should be enough for her to contend again in this one. She is wants to go, she could upset this field.

On to the speed matchup of the evening in the 11th race as Thats Amore Foxy takes on Hanks Diana in what could turn into a battle royal for the lead, and the win, tonight. Both greyhounds can really get out of the box well and both have but short in the past. They also have held on late to win races too, so it's all about the attitude that they will bring to this race tonight. Foxy has been more successful as of late and frankly she has been running against a bit steeper competition in the process. With 5 of 6 races in the front she should be the one to catch, but don't count out Diana so fast. She has a better post position and had won 3 in a row and 5 of 6 over the last month or so. She knows how to get it done and I expect this to turn into a donnybrook. Either way you like them, this should be a solid quiniela play tonight. Trying to take them both down will be the other big time early speeder here, Deerfield Can. Can has won his share of grade A races too, but those normally come from the rail or the one box. Tonight he will have to make due from the 4, which might not be all that bad. He will have extra room early on and the last time he had this post, or the other one with a box open next to it, the 5, he won both efforts. If he can follow Foxy to the turn, the 2 way battle might turn into a 3 way slugfest. Now when you think you are done, let's throw in another greyhound into the early speed mix. Cayenne Carmagea might not have all the name power or shiny resume as the others, but results at the wire are what counts anyways. Here she gets an ideal post with the 2 box and it should go a long way to helping her out in this effort. She has been in the month in 4 of her last 5 races and that does include a win 4 races back in grade B. If she decides to follow the speed to the turn and gets close enough early on, she might be upset minded in this effort tonight.

No better way to cap off the evening than a top grade 660 yard affair. Speed will play a role in this race as well, but can they steal enough to keep the stakes winner at bay? NO! Racheal Lee is way, way, way overdue for a victory and sooner or later the light bulb is going to come on. Breaking from the outside might not be a good place to start from, but she is so slow early on that it really doesn't matter all the much. She just needs a lane to get to the rail in and with all the early speed rushing out clear of her, she should be unabated to where she wants to be on the racetrack. Late in this race, no one will be better as the speed tires themselves out on the front end, and Racheal is there to pick up the mess at the wire. Leading the way for the majority of this race should be Kiowa Deli Dee. This greyhound has really come into her own as of late and has posted up wins in 4 of her last 6 races in grade A. She can be short on occasion and in the two races that she didn't win, she was run down from behind in the stretch. Here she will be pressed throughout and will need to give it her all if she wants to win again. If she can steal enough early, it wouldn't be a surprise to see her continue to impress with another win tonight. Making her work for it will be Hobo Dan. Dan is a big time breaker and early speed greyhound over 660 yard and as long as he is close early on, he is tough. I know he can falter late and once he is passed he doesn't have the same heart as he does on the lead, but who cares. If he goes to the front, he can outrun almost anyone at the racetrack over 660 yards. Just look at his last couple of races over 660. In the money in all 4 of them, including wins in his last 2 starts in grade A over 660 yards. Breaking from a good post, Dan is upset minded once again in this effort. Now for the sort of long shot, Never Relinquish. This greyhound has won back to back races by 5 lengths or more. Ready for the next level, I think so, but moving further away from the rail might affect her in this one. She did break extremely well in both of those starts and getting the lead here will not be as easy as it was against those fields. She is going to have to work hard, but remember that she is more than a one dimensional greyhound. She can close from off the pace too and that is what is going to get her into the money in this effort.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday - 9/26/2009

No time to slow down on Saturday as the 7th race gets another heated battle on the front end. The race for adoption greyhound, Charmurpantsoff, is looking for a little revenge over Bl Punch N Judy in this effort. These two greyhounds matched up last time out and Judy got the best of him in that effort. Judy has been breaking extremely well and in the process she has been winning races. With 2 in a row and 3 in her last 4 starts she must be considered a threat to win again, but the 6 box is a long way from the rail and the last 6 box she had, she fell down trying to get there. Advantage Charmurpantsoff. He gets to start out near the rail in the 2 box and that will play into his effort tonight, besides he has won 3 of his last 6 races too and has enough speed to take down Judy with, or without, the early lead in this race. Both are running at peak performance and this too could turn into quite a race to watch. Can Judy steal enough early to hold on? Or will she get her Pants pulled OFF at the finish line? Trying to keep the duo honest will be the veteran Gs Dallas. Dallas might not be quite as quick as he used to be, but from the outside post position he has always been a dangerous threat. He loves it out here and even though he is short late in his races, he usually does give some early speeders some fits on the way to the first turn. I don't think he can keep up the pace throughout for the win, but he should find the money again for the 6th time in his last 7 efforts. Now on to the closing portion of our event and the very posted up 1 greyhound, Cayenne Ferrari. All revved up and ready to go, Ferrari gets the pole position and could be lurking around way to close for the early speeders comfort at the start of this effort. I know he is not as consistent as the others, but when the mood suits him, WATCH OUT! Just look back 2 races where he demolished a field by 5 lengths and posted up a very speedy 30.66 second clocking in the process. Still winning might be a stretch, but hitting the gas late and stealing away a spot for another top 4 finish is not out of the question.

More heat in the 11th race as upstart Fay's Fonda takes on the winner of the 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup, Rs Libby Lu. Libby has been continuing to break well in her races since winning the stakes, but she is not holding on late to win them. It's not like she has been running poorly, come on, with 4 quinielas in a row she has been in the hunt all the way to the wire, but short is short and that is where Fonda comes in. This greyhound is not short and at the end of his races he has been driving home, besides he has a solid break too and might even take the early lead away from Libby in this effort. Both greyhounds start out in good posts and it could be another great race to watch. Both have the ability to win, but I like Fonda on top. Where's Playpen has to get a look here too. Shorter than either of the other two mentioned greyhounds, Playpen will have to get out to the lead early on if she wants a shot at the top spot at the wire. She gets the bonus of the 1 box here and that might be enough to keep her stalking throughout once again in this effort. Tough to count her out as she has not missed the money in her last 6 efforts in a row, including a close 2nd place finish in her last race from this starting box. Look for her to keep it close from the box to the wire and find a way into the money once again tonight. Kiowa Stan Cay is no slouch himself and he too has been a top grade competitor in 6 efforts in a row. He has a good rush to the turn and if he is close early on, he is tough to kick out of the top four positions before the finish line. Starting out from where he wants to be on the racetrack, midtrack, he should be in the thick of things throughout once again in this effort. If he does decide to break here, he has enough speed for the upset. Watch out for him in this effort tonight.

What better way to end the evening then with a 2 times stakes winner in the 1 box? Time to cash some tickets! Count Ivan might have fallen in the finals of the 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup after winning 3 of the rounds, and even though he had a couple of rough races after that, he has righted the ship and is ready to get back to being the man. Don't believe me? Look at his last 2 races! A won by 8 and then a strong second to Ru Tuff Enuf, no worries there, and tonight this is the one box and I'm the one to beat. Also working for me is the 2 greyhound, Msd Rhonda. She is going to move wide and at the break and give me all kinds of room to rush the turn in. Look for me to take over early and as they say, this could get UGLY! Kiowa Smedley likes it outside and gets an advantageous post position in this race with the 8 box. Coming from Mardi Gras, this puppy has really taken to the racetrack and let's not forget that he won in the 1st round of qualifying for the stakes. I know he missed the final, but he only has 27 career starts. He is still finding his way in grade A, but he has already won his share of races at the top level too. Normally a strong closer, he will not have the luxury against Ivan in this race. If he wants to win, he must break and run the race of his career tonight. Dirty Picture is another late runner that will be coming on strong at the end of this race. Forget his last effort, he was not close early on and had nowhere to go. Previously he had been in the money in 5 straight and had won 2 of those effort from similar post positions. I don't know if he can keep pace early, but in the stretch he will do what needs to be done to get up into the money scene at the wire. Now for the stretch! Msd Rhonda might like to race wide, but front the inside posts she breaks a whole lot better. Here she is going to need every advantage that she can get and if she comes out with Ivan. She might just be able to hang around thru the early stages of this race. Late she will be no match for the big guys powers, but it could turn into a solid in the money finish for her tonight. Just look at her lines! Her best two efforts in her last 6 races have come from inside post positions. Enough said!

Superb Performances This Weekend at OP

Ru Tuff Enuf made the statement of the weekend in the 7th race on Friday evening. Breaking from the 3 box he left nothing to doubt. He rushed to the early lead and was long, long, long gone in a hurry. He increased all the way to the wire and won by, count 'em, 11 lengths.

The puppy Fay's Fonda also made a statement as he decided to come out running in the 11th race on the card and left his field of grade A's in his wake. He might not have posted up the effort that Tuff Enuf did, but for a greyhound with just 18 starts under his belt he did just fine. Winning his 4th in his last 6 trips, his 6 1/2 length win in 30.41 seconds was a personal best.

Saturday was about the stakes greyhounds, sort of, as Gabby's Fiona got back to winning in the 7th race on the matinee. She stalked early on and took command down the backside to coast to the wire for the easy victory in 30.85 seconds, but the big race came in the 11th.

There Bl Punch N Judy upset the reigning champ, Rs Libby Lu, in a heated head to head battle. Libby continues to break and to her credit she never gave up here, and if she takes a better route turning for home it could have been closer at the wire. Either way, it was a great battle up front for the win with Judy coming out on top in the fastest time on the card, 30.70 seconds.

The beat rolled on thru the evening card as stakes finalist Cjc's Buckshot and La's Anthony took care of their races with easy.

Buckshot was way too close early on, as he broke 2nd, and by the far turn it was already over. He drove home with authority and easily won by a couple of lengths in a speedy 30.48 clocking, which just happened to be the best on the card.

La's Anthony had to wait till the last race to continue his streak, but the best part was how he was able to accomplish it. He didn't go screaming to front like he normally does to win races, here he came from off the pace to get it done. Showing his versatility, Anthony stalked to the stretch and turn it on as they approached the wire for the slim win. A 30.93 is not quite as impressive as Buckshot, but it was good enough for his 3rd win in a row, his 7th win and 11th quiniela in his last 12 races.

Considering a Pet?

Make a FAST friend, Adopt a greyhound!

Great Weekend On Tap at the OPKC!

Friday - 9/18/2009
Another great weekend is in store at the Orange Park Kennel Club, as we get mix of just about everything at some point during all of the top grade races for Friday and Saturday evenings.

We got big names, wins streaks, stakes winners, rising stars, stakes finalists, win streaks and a track record holder. What more could you ask for? Nothing!

Getting right into the thick of things in the 7th race, we take a little trip around the oval with Ru Tuff Enuf. The pre-race favorite to make the finals, and probably win, the 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup, Tuff came up short of both and even though he has not missed the quiniela in 3 starts since, he has not looked as sharp as he has in the past. Time for him to show up and show off in this race. Expect BIG things tonight. Kiowa Kay Wilbur is a great early speed greyhound that should come out running at the start of this race. No doubt he might be able to make the lead, but holding it throughout is the real question. He has only 1 wins in his last 6 races, but he has been in the money in all of those efforts. Look for more of the same in this race. Els Crystal is running above her head and if she keeps breaking, she might just keep on doing it. She has 2 wins in her last 4 races and in each she had the lead at the first turn. She too is short at the end of the race, and stepping up two grades in class, she might even be shorter in the stretch tonight. If she wants to impress in grade A, she will need to steal a ton early on. Where's J Bee gets the best of the rest award in this race. He has enough early speed to get around early on, but how bad does it want to run. If he wants to keep going he could contend for the majority of this effort, but if he decides to quit in the stretch he could fade back out of the money. It's all up to him here.

Puppy power in the 10th race on the card as the newest grade A factor for the DQ Williams Kennel, Charmurpantsoff, gets another chance at a paycheck for adoption. Running for Teddy Palmer's Halfway Home Adoption Agency, Charmurpantsoff has really lined some pockets as of late. Winning 4 of his last 5 races and showing up in the money in his last 7 races in a row, this guy has some veterans skills even though he won't turn 2 until December. Breaking well has been his key to success and look for more of it here, especially since he gets to start off from the 1 box. Kiowa Stan Cay is going to make it interested though as he too has shown that he has what it takes to win impressively in grade A too. In his last 3 races he has won twice and has posted up 30.50 or so times in the process. As long as he is close early on, he has been a major factor in the races that he has run in. Tonight there is no speed around expect for the 1, and if he stalks him to the turn, this could turn into a battle royal. Deerfield Moss is a big time closer that would much rather be on the rail at the start of this effort. Breaking from the outside he is really going to have to work to get to the inside and find a late to charge up into in the stretch. He did compete well in the stakes and even since he has a win a good closing 3rd to his credit. Forget the last race, tonight he finds a way to factor again. Wp's Commander has taken well to the racetrack since arriving from Wheeling Downs and with money finishes in 4 of his last 6 efforts, you cannot discount the talent of this young runner. I know he hasn't won in a while, but he had been stuck inside for far too long. Finally on the outside part of the racetrack again tonight, things could be different at the finish line this time around.

Race 11 is not like the others as it is a bit more wide open and I could see several greyhounds taking home the top prize at the finish line in this one. So who to go with? More puppy power! Fay's Fonda draws a good inside post position I look for him to hit the lid and be off to the races early on in this effort. What he lacks in experience he makes up for in talent, and so far on the front end he has proving about as tough as anyone to catch. Recent success plays a role here too as he has posted up 3 wins in his last 5 efforts. Breaking clearly and driving home late, he pulls off the mini upset in this effort. Kiowa Smedley took to the racetrack good enough for him to be entered into the Sunshine State Silver Cup and make it all the way to the semi-finals after a first round win. Working for him is the post position! I know you might not see it but 4 of his 7 wins here have come from this post position. He can break well on occasion and even without the lead he has enough left late to make up for it in the stretch. He is a complete greyhound and if he wants to run tonight, this race will be his too loose. Now for the DQ entry and might just be the favorite at post time. Dirty Picture has really stepped back up his game as of late with 6 efforts in a row in the money in grade A, including 5 quinielas and 2 winning efforts. Outside is where he wants to be and the 6 box should be a prime location to start from. In his last effort from here he came from 6th at the far turn to win. If he closes like that again, the sky will be the limit. Where's Playpen used to be an exceptional breaker, but the consistency of those efforts has long left her behind. Sure every now that then she can beat the box and normally that returns her into the money at the finish line. Case in point, her last race where she wired the field on the front end for the win. Don't get me wrong as of late she has been running better, but against these she will need give a repeat of her last effort if she wants to contend. Can she do it? Sure, but will she?

Capping off the evening we move to the 660 yard course and go once again with the 2008 Patton Marathon winner Racheal Lee. This monster closer can run down anyone at anytime in a race and if she is close early on, it is OVER! Tonight she starts out from the most outside post and even though she likes to race on the rail, she will be able to get there sometime in this effort. I don't care who is in front early, this race is hers too loose and besides, she's due! It's been 4 since she won, time to get off the snide. Speaking of early leads, Kiowa Deli Dee should be the one on the engine tonight. This greyhound has been in front in 4 of her last 5 races, winning 3 and finishing in the quiniela in the other, Deli Dee is a force once she sees the lead. Tonight the wide runner starts off from a favorable post position in the 7 box and if it all goes her way early on, it is not out the realm of possibilities that she could wire the field for the win. Need A Date might be Racheal Lee's littermate, but their running style couldn't be further apart. Don't get me wrong Need A Date can last for 660 yards and win at the top grade over this distance, just like she did in her last effort, but she is all about hitting the lid and trying to hold on late for the victory. No closing speed here like her sister, but just as dangerous in any grade A affair. She doesn't care about the post just the break. Coming out fast tonight will guarantee her a spot in the money tonight. Se's We Goin Too has really matured into a quality 660 yard greyhound and even though she is going to win a ton of races over here, she is going to be a force throughout in each and every one that she runs in. She is a steady plugger with a big of a close on occasion over 660 and that is just what you are going to get again in this effort. With 5 finishes in the superfecta in her last 6 races, you know she had the chops to get it done, tonight she just proves it once again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday - 9/19/2009

Race 7 features an interesting match-up between the new, the proven, and the maybe. Any of the three could steal away with a win in this effort, but it really depends on who wants it most. It's tough to pick against the greyhound that holds the track record, and I won't, but Kiowa Swizzle is the MAYBE in this race. He is as faster than anyone ever at the racetrack, but he has to be close early on in order to want to run and be effective. Breaking from his favorite 8 box, it is going to be tough to beat him, but if can't see the early lead or at least be near it, he can get beat in this effort. Hot off a monster win by almost 9 lengths, Swizzle is ready to fire for the front and back to back wins tonight. Trying to steal away the lead and the victory is the NEW, as in newcomer, in the equation, Thats Amore Foxy. Foxy has done well since arriving from Daytona Beach and if she keeps breaking like she has been, she is going to be just fine in the long haul. She has won 2 of her last 3 races and has been either first or second to the turn in her last 6 efforts in a row. All rail all the time, Foxy gets a double bonus with the 1 box in this effort. Her drawback, like more big time early speed greyhounds, she can be short in the stretch on occasion. If she wants to upset this field tonight, she needs a huge break and rush to get it done. Now for the PROVEN greyhound, CJC's Buckshot. Buckshot won 3 rounds of the Sunshine State Silver Cup and in the finals he ran a big race after trouble to dead heat for third. He has a tremendous heart and never, ever gives up in a race. Closing is his best attribute and he can do it from so many places on the racetrack. Inside would have been a better starting spot for him, but he has had success from here in the past. If he wants this race, no one may be able to keep him out of the winner's circle tonight. Fth Fiyacracker might have had a quick exit from the stakes rounds, but she was just coming back off a rest and really wasn't on top of her game. Since she has broke a bit better and even though she has not won a race as of yet, she did factor well in 2 of those 4 races. Early speed has been her best friend in the past and she has not come out on top in a long time. If she is going to make the leaders earn their victory tonight, she will need to channel that inner ankle burner in this effort.

The biggest mover and shaker this week is up in the 11th race. Wp's Clinton, story on the front page about him, has really come into his own over the last month or so. He has won 4 of his last 6 races including a 10 1/2 length romp in his last effort. Like he needs the help, Clinton gets the rail again in this effort and this rail hugger may just put up back to back romps in this race. It's all sitting there for him to take, pass the bib! Jeans Winningboy is not going to let him just belly up to the buffet without some competition though. Winningboy was an early exiter of the stakes rounds as well, but since he has been back on top of his game. He has won 3 of 5 starts and finished in the trifecta in the other two. If they were posted up next to each other this could turn into quite a race, but from the 5 box, Winningboy will have to work extra hard in order to get up late for the victory. If he wants to show up the other rising star tonight, he will need to come out running in this effort. Blaze N Ray is a super closer that likes to race from the rail and gets to start there in this effort. Ray hung around throughout the qualifying rounds of the stakes, but without any wins he had no chance to make the finals. Coming from last all the time does that to you and coming from last in this effort will get him more of the same, third place finishes a few lengths off of the winners. And if he runs into trouble, well it's an out of the money finish. That is the story of his last 6 races in a nutshell, 3 wins, 3 out of the money finishes. Here the post will help out, but the outcome is really up to him. He will close strong late, but will it be enough to threaten the leaders? Time will tell. Let's not forget the old standby in this race, T Dizzle. You know the I'm going to win for fun or not show up at all greyhound. Just kidding, somewhat. This greyhound is always a contender from the outside and gets a fairly outside post here in the 6 box. I know it's not the 8 and this is grade A but you have to respect the just in case factor, especially since she has won 2 of her last 5 races and both of those came from outside starting boxes. If she does get loose early on, you might just see an old familiar face on top in the photo at the finish line.

Can the streak continue in the 15th and final race on the card as La's Anthony is looking for his 3rd win in a row over a very talented field of greyhounds. Anthony had 4 in a row heading into the stakes and finished 2nd in all 4 rounds before finished out of the money in the finals. Since he has won 2 in a row and looks to be back on top of his game. Clearly he is the one to beat but he is going to have his hands full throughout in this effort. Upstart Fay's McQueen is posted up well on the rail and with 4 wins in her last 6 races, including running down the stakes winner in the stretch in his last effort, he looks ready to contend again against anyone tonight. Let's not forget the cagey veteran Where's Playtime either. Her all out early speed is enough for even the mighty Anthony to worry as they go to the turn. I know she is short in the stretch, but a rail runner in a rail post might just stretch out that lead a little more in the early stages of this effort. She has been in the money in 3 of her last 6 races and that includes a close 2nd place finish 2 starts ago from this post position. It would take all she had and some help behind to win tonight, but it could happen. Hanks Diana was a winning machine last month with wins in 5 of her 6 starts, including a run of 3 wins in a row. Since she has not been breaking as sharply as he had in the past and that has been the difference maker for her. Granted she is learning a bit how to run without the lead, but she has not challenged late in race for a while now. If she doesn't come out running in this effort, the post could be a hindrance to her as well. She has had trouble from this post before in the past and it might come back at her again tonight. If she wants to challenge with the leaders tonight, she will need to break her best in this race.

Big Names Get Big Wins on Wednesday

It was a name dropping fest thru the 2 cards on Wednesday at the Orange Park Kennel Club and the majority of them got it done on the racetrack.

Count Ivan led everything off in the matinee and even though it was a grade B race, he would have beaten anyone with this effort. Clocking the fastest time of the whole day, both matinee and evening cards, his 30.42 second 8 length romp moved him back to grade A.

Puppy Fay's Mcqueen show that he has some chops too. The 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup winner, Rs Libby Lu, broke again to the lead and seems to be in complete control of the race, but not so fast my friend! Mcqueen put the ponies in overdrive and machined home an upset win at the finish line.

Easy money in the night card as T Dizzle Drew the 8 box and didn't disappoint. Rushing out close early on, she was way to much for the competition come the far turn and in the stretch forgetaboutit. But that wasn't the best effort on the evening, that was saved for Wp's Clinton.

Another rising star here at the Orange Park Kennel Club, this half brother to Count Ivan, same mom, is really coming into his own at the right time. He won by almost 11 lenghts and put up a 30.51 second time on the board in the process. With 4 wins inh 6 efforts, you better watch out for him in the future.

Business as usual for a couple of other big names on the circuit as La's Anthony jumped out fast and took early command of his race to put up back to back wins and nice to see the track record holder get back off the snide with an impressive 8 1/2 length win over a grade B field.

DQ Shows up Big AGAIN!

WInning two of the 3 grade A races on the card and finishing 2nd in the other, I would say that the DQ Williams Kennel took care of business last evening at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Most impressive was the race for adoption puppy, Charmurpantsoff! This greyhound is just getting better with every start and when he gets the lead, he is something to watch. With 2 wins in a row and 4 in his last 5 efforts in grade A. Keep your eye out for him in the future, IE the upcoming puppy stakes.

The suprise of the evening was probably the win over 660 in grade A for Power Exchange. But are we every surprised when a DQ greyhound wins a 660 race? Not really! Power has proven tough when he can get close early on and that is just what he did in this effort. Breaking near the pack, chasing thruout, and driving home for the easy win.

Now for the other shocker, but this time around it was not a good thing. LOL! Ru Tuff Enuf is still looking for the winner's circle again after he finished 2nd for the straight race in a row. Props to Tk Capitan, Quick Strike's littermate, as he broke to the early lead without his muzzle on and took advantage off all of that clean air up front. He held tough all the way to the wire for the slim win. Tuff Enuf fans don't worry though, sooner or later he will get out of this funk and start winning races again.
