Stakes Winner's Weekend

Friday - 2/26/2010

Stakes winners and red hot greyhound abound this weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

First up on Friday is the unbeaten since returning from Wheeling with 4 straight, 2009 Sunshine State Silver Classic winner, Rs Libby Lu. Saturday Matinee it's the 2009 JGR Puppy Stakes winner, Fth Keystone Cop, followed by the 2009 and 2010 Orange Park Derby Winner's Penny Candy and Eds Budby in the evening card. No slowing down on Sunday as Fay's Fonda is searching for her 4th win in a row.

Early speed will be the key to almost all of their success this weekend, so big breaks will be just what you need to look for.

Race 11 is the first one to be examined and I think I might know who is the one to beat.

1. Kiowa Top Design (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) has won 3 of his last 4 races, all from the front end. He can win from the post, but must come out running to be effective.

2. Pat C Hallelujah (Blazin Blitz - Pat C Unit) is a strong closer that has made his way back into the grade A ranks lately. Winning might be a stretch tonight, but factoring at the finish line, not too much of one.

3. What A Charmer (San Tan Riffraff - Majestic Angle) is back over 550 yards from 660 and has returned to his big closing ways. He won't be around early on, but in the stretch, everyone better watch out.

4. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) does the DQ Williams barn well with all of his closing speed a the end of the race. He might not win a ton, but he is a solid force in any effort.

5. Fth Tiger Lilly (Take It Over - Fth Moon Dancer) got back in the grade A ranks with a good front running win in her last race. If she wants to contend again, she must fire out fast in this race.

6. Uss West Coast (Lonesome Cry - Uss Mysterious) is up in grade as well in this effort and needs to step it up if he wants to stick around. He too has early speed and a big break will be needed tonight.

7. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) has been a machine since coming back from WHEELING. She has not missed the lead or a win in her 4 efforts. Tonight could be another.

8. Gs Wolverine (Craigie Whistler - Gm's Peachykeen) is running hot with 2 wins in his last 4 races, but this is not grade C and the A's are pretty tough. He will need to be on top of his game in this one.

Ok so to no one's surprise, Rs Libby Lu should continue her hot streak in this effort. She has the best early speed and once in front she can be anyone at the racetrack.( ie. see 2009 Sunshine Silver Cup Finals) Sure she might be pressed throughout, but she is the one to beat tonight. Stalking for the duration will be Kiowa Top Design. Winning 3 of 4 races, showing some good early speed, and winning from this post last time out, he should be able to get close and factor for the duration. Now for the closers and who would have guessed they are both from DQ. Dirty Picture and What A Charmer both can come from the clouds and will be making up ground in the deep stretch in this effort. Either way you like them, you can't leave them out under on your wagers in this effort.

Saturday - 2/27/2010

In Saturday Matinee we head to the 7th race on the card and look again for the stakes winner.

1. Kiowa Kind Gel (Flying Penske - Kiowa Oneofakind) hot off a win and back in grade A, this early speed greyhound needs to make the most of the post. Just look at his last win from here, it was a big win.

2. La's Jaguar (Be Discrete - La's Felisha) is a bit of a all or nothing greyhound, but as a puppy he has plenty of time to mature. Moving back to grade A here, he is hoping this time around is better.

3. Fth Keystone Cop (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) is another stakes winner in the CM Lil Bit camp that is rounding back into his top form once again. With 2 wins in 3 races, he is poised to romp again.

4. Eds Stand Off (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) is up 2 grades in this race and it is going to be tough for him. He does have closing speed and post position on his side, will it be enough? We'll see.

5. Bl Punch N Judy (Lonesome Cry - Jr's Mojo) would much rather be on the rail in this race, but will have to make due from here. If she can find her break and come out fast, she might have a chance to steal it.

6. Power Exchange (Craigie Whistler - Aunt Redmoon) is more of a 660 yard greyhound, but has shown some good close in his last couple of efforts over 550. Don't expect him early, but late watch out.

7. Kiowa Vincent (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) has not looked that great as of late, but has the potential to surprise once again in this effort. The post might just help, a big break would too.

8. Willing Effort (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) in the past she has run some big races, but all of them have been either on the lead or near the early lead in a race. She MUST come out close here.

So Fth Keystone Cop is the stakes winner and since he has shown he is coming back to his old self, I'll go with him for the win. When he wants to break, he can win almost any race against anyone at the racetrack. He likes the inside and gets it here with the 3 box. He must come out running though if he wants to repeat in this effort. Kiowa Kind Gel might be the only greyhound here to steal away the early lead from Copper. She likes the post and has enough early foot to make the front tonight. Her drawback is that she is short at the end of the race and might not be able to hold on for the win at the wire. If she can steal enough, she might just take home the win. La's Jaguar is about as fast as anyone in this field, but is he going to show up. When he can get close early, he is tough, without the lead he has been suspect in the past. Post might play a role too as he likes it midtrack to wide and this is the 3 box. He will need to be close early if he wants a chance here. Power Exchange is the best closer in the field and will be trying to run down everyone in the stretch. Winning might be tough, but with any trouble up front he might have a shot at the finish line. This is not really his best distance, but with all the late speed he should be able to make the superfecta at least in this effort.

Saturday - 2/27/2010

Another big showdown on Saturday Evening as a great field of routers strap on their muzzles in the 15th.

1. Where's Finalhit (Flying Penske - Finaldestination) has been on fire as of late with 4 efforts in a row in the quiniela. Now up a grade she faces a tougher field tonight. Only plus for her, the 1 box.

2. Kiowa Trent Tovi (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) likes the rail and gets the rail in this effort. He has been a bit successful so far over 660 and has enough left late to be a threat. Tonight more of the same.

3. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) is a good closer that likes the rail and gets close enough with the 3 box in order to be effective. Back where she belongs in grade A, she factors tonight.

4. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) is returning to the form that saw him take the 660 yard course by storm a couple of months ago. Always tough near the lead, he has to be out fast again tonight.

5. Penny Candy (Stan's Buy Flyer - Majestic Angle) broke well and ran pretty good despite double trouble last time out. Here she might be able to get clear on the lead & if she does, this race could be over.

6. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) has really started to feel at home over the 660 yard course. Breaking better and winning races, she will be looking for her 3rd straight victory in this one.

7. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) was the 2010 Orange Park Derby Winner and needs to just get around the corner. With back to back rough trips, he needs to rebound with a good effort.

8. Xtra Style (Kl's Doug - Exceptional Bid) is the best closer in this race and was next best in the 2010 Orange Park Derby. From here she might get around early and could threaten everyone in the stretch.

So let's jump out on the limb again and hope for #77. Penny Candy looked really sharp last time out from the starting box and was just a hare, yes pun intended, from clearly on the early lead. Well that didn't happen and she ran into double trouble and finished out of the cash at the wire. Tonight the wide breaking Gs Ashlynn is to her outside and that will just give her more room at the break. With a clean path thru the turn, it's time to get back where she belongs, in the winner's circle. Gs Ashlynn has really come on as of late and is peaking right now. With back to back wins, it's tough to ignore her and as long as she comes out again tonight, she should be around for the duration. Same goes for Bad For Ya. This greyhound looked unbeatable when he moved to 660 yards and despite the pair of 5th place finishes, he has been really strong. Hot off of back to back runner-up efforts, he looks to stay around the pace throughout again tonight. Xtra Style can't be counted out of any race that she is entered into. She has the raw late speed to take down almost anyone on the front end and from the 8 box she will be clear early. Still she can't be too far back too early, or it will be too little too late at the finish line tonight.

Sunday - 2/28/2010

On Sunday Matinee we might not have a stakes winner in the mix, but we do have a smoking hot streaker.

1. Bf Dora (Dodgem By Design - Sol Lasting) won back to back races to get to grade A and has had a rough go of it ever since. Today the one box might just help her get out fast and challenge.

2. Fay's Fonda (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) is a ankle burner that has strung up 3 wins in a row and 4 in his last 6 starts. Posted up on the rail again in this effort, he is going to be tough to beat.

3. Kiowa Smedley (Dodgem By Design - Kiowa Heavenly) has track record speed and once loose, no one in this race can run with him. He gets back to the inside and that is enough for him to threaten here.

4. Comedrinkwithme (Dauntless - Instant Vintage) talk about some parents! His were superb. Now he has to make a name for himself. Closing is his best attribute, so he needs to stay clear early to get close late.

5. Gm's Dale (Deerfield Site* - Steffie's Charm) has shown some great early speed and even up 2 grades in this race, he is not out of it. Posted up well here, he needs to come out running in this effort.

6. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is coming into this race off a win in her last effort in grade A. She went box to wire for that win and will need to hit the lid again if she wants to repeat.

7. Where's Playtime (Dodgem By Design - Uss Agenda) climbed her way back to grade A with a big front running win in her last effort. She is short, short, short late and will need a ton early if she wants to challenge at the wire.

8. Miss Kate (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) is as tough as nails close to the early lead in the race. Here from an undesirable post position, she will need to find her break if she wants to contend.

Fay's Fonda looks to be the one to beat in this effort. She is on roll, she has the best early speed, and she gets a great post position to start from. Everything is going good for her, she just needs to execute in order to make it 4 straight. So who could beat her? Kiowa Smedley can! This greyhound is as fast as he wants to be and from the inside post positions he is extremely dangerous. Two races back from this post, he smoked home for the easy win. If he comes out too close to the early lead, no one will be able to stop him before the finish line. Comedrinkwithme is probably the best closer in the bunch and will be making up much ground at the end of the race. Now back over 550 he is looking better getting back accustom to this distance. Winning might be a stretch today, but you never know. Gm's Dale might be an outsider in this field, but you have to respect that early speed, especially in the matinee cards. Despite his effort 2 races back, he has been in the trifecta 5 other times, including a pair of victories. I know he is in tougher. I know he will have to step up. I know winning might be too much to ask, but factoring for the majority of this race near the lead. I think he might be up for that.

Observations - Hallo Mitch to Mardi Gras, Mr. Clark and PTL

How about just a update on a couple of observations over the last week here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Hallo Mitch (Flying Penske - Sol Sassy) had been the hottest thing going at the Orange Park Kennel Club and was the man to beat in each and every start over the racetrack.

How good has he been? He has not missed the money in 26 races in a row and during that span he has won 17 races, including a hot box race and a run 6 in a row.

The O'Donnell's thought so much of him that he has traveled south for the World Classic and if his schooling race is any indication, he might just continue his streak over the new oval.

Mitch hit the lid and stole the early lead and coasted to the wire for the slim win in 30.34 seconds in his first effort at Mardi Gras.

The other good news in this effort was that he beat two other invaders from Wheeling in the process.

Maybe others will start to notice that the greyhounds from Orange Park can run too?

Finally Mr. Clark (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) cleared early, rushed the turn well, and took home a win in grade A. With this win he pushed up his record to 17/6-5-1-2, and he has finished in the quiniela in 6 of his last 7 races.

The Ptl Kennel got a shot in the arm with a new load of greyhounds from Tri-State.

The other night in schooling they won 5 races and finished second in another with the EASI prefix greyhounds.

In each and every one of those starts they came out running and was in command from start to finish.

Most of them have drawn in already and are looking to make their debut on Saturday.

Tune in and keep track to see how they progress at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Orange Park this weekend!

Friday - 2/19/2010

Great racing this upcoming weekend and the best news story out there is that the 2008 All-American and National Win Leader, Penny Candy, is back on the racetrack.

No rest for the wicked though, she will have to compete against a great field including the 2010 champion Eds Budby.

Other wonderful races too look out for too, and can Mr. Clark finally win in grade A already?? How about the NOS winner Pru Whistler, how can she better a 10 1/2 lengths win she posted up last time out. And what about the almost track record holder Kiowa Smedley, can he get back to form against a talented field?

Stay tuned below and see how it all plays out.

Friday evening is up first and we start in the 11th race on the card.

1. Kiowa Gooddesign (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) has loads of early speed and with 4 wins in her last 6 efforts and the one box tonight, he is going to be a major force in this race.

2. Pru Whistler (Craigie Whistler - Rambo For A Win) loves the rail and the 2 box is close enough. Has righted the ship as of late with back to back wins and 4 strong closing efforts in a row.

3. Uss Out Of Sight (Gable Dodge - Uss Untouched) is trying to figure out just what distance she is running. The odd note, she has won at both recently. In sprint she will close late to challenge.

4. Sign And Drive (Dodgem By Design - Happiness) is a former stakes winner that used to be money from the starting box. She need to get back to breaking if she wants to contend in this race.

5. Pat C Bs Hiway (Elway Drive - Pat C Sweetwater) gets it tough all the way around. A tough post, and a bunch of tough competitors in this race. Over his head a bit, he will need to step it up tonight.

6. Fanatic Scotty (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Fanatic Essence) has a bit of close to him, but normally has to be close early on in order to contend. Here he needs to fire out fast in order to factor tonight.

7. Mr. Duncan (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) is in a bit of a slump. He has not been breaking well and in turn he has not been finishing well. He did clear early 3 races ago and won, but that was inside. Outside he has his work cut out for him.

8. Fth Briar Rose (Take It Over - Fth Moon Dancer) is a nice rising puppy out of former OPKC star, Take It Over. The key to her success in this race will be the break. The outside post also helps, let's see what she has.

I know she is not going to be in the front at the lead of this race, but it is really hard to pick against Pru Whistler in this one. She is an animal from the rail posts and gets another one in this effort. With 2 wins in a row and her last by 10 1/2 lengths from this same post, enough said. She gets home late for the three-peat in this effort. Dueling it out early on should be Kiowa Gooddesign and Sing And Drive. Both greyhounds have great early speed and either one of them could steal away the win on the front end if the mood suits them in this race. Both are short late though and that is how Whistler gets it done here. Uss Out Of Sight has to be considered too especially from the near rail post. Over 550 she is a closer and will be factoring in the deep stretch again in this effort. (2-1-3-4)

Saturday - 2/20/2010

For Saturday matinee we jump over to the 7th race on the card and talk to Mr. Clark.

1. Ctw Anti Gravity (Maryville Rumble* - Greys Gravity) is a solid grade A competitor that will flourish from the rail post position in this race. She has enough speed to get close & is not short late. Factoring, YES!

2. Its Atoughracket (let's Winendine - Faith Keeper) can close with the best of them and will be making up ground for sure again in this race. With 5 of 6 in the money in grade A, expect a big effort.

3. Drill Bit (Flying Hydrogen - Tailgate) is moving back to grade A in this effort with a game win in his last start. His best feature is his early sped and if he wants a chance here, he is going to have to steal a ton early on.

4. Hanks Dancequeen (Maryville Rumble* - Dance Of Dreams) would rather be on the rail, but will have to make due from the middle posts tonight. She can close a bit, but runs well close to the early lead. Here she needs to break in order to contend.

5. Kiowa Kay Wilbur (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Kiowa Kay Kattie) is another Kay Smith greyhound in grade A. He too is all about the early speed and even though he is moving up, he can contend, he just needs to come out running.

6. Mr. Clark (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) had some bad racing luck last time out and looks to get back to the quiniela, like he did in his 5 previous starts. He likes it out here and has the goods to win in A, he just needs to step up and take it home.

7. Hanks Reno (Maryville Rumble* - Dolly Madison) has been running tough and even though he is up two grades in this effort, he has the talent needed to get a piece of this pie. He will need to get to the rail close early though to have a chance.

8. Gs Roman (Dodgem By Design - J's Winkle Free) has been running well since returning to action, especially from the outside post positions. Here he could cause a ruckus as he has everything going for him at the start.

Time for the MAN to get off the snide in grade A. Mr. Clark has shown time and time again that his never say give up attitude has won him some races, and factored in some others, but he has yet to do it in grade A. Here expect him to rush close and take over late to steal away the win in the stretch. Ctw Anti Gravity has a great post position to start from and with the 2 greyhound, Its Atoughracket moving wide early on, he will have room heading to the turn. If she can get out quickly, she might just pull of the win in this effort. Toughracket is no slouch herself and she too has won from these inside posts in the past. As the best true closer in this field, she will be making them all work at the finish line tonight. Hanks Dancequeen is the unpredictable force in this effort. She has the skills to steal away the win in this effort, but she is going to have to step it up from the middle post positions. You don't know just what you are going to get, but you have to respect the talent.

Saturday - 2/20/2010

It's big race time on Saturday evening at the Orange Park Kennel Club as Derby winner's faceoff!

1. Bl Tip Toe Marie (Lonesome Cry - Jr's Mojo) is moving up in class and the one box will aide in her efforts in this race. She might not have run well at the grade A level, but with 2 wins in her last 2 races from this post, pay attention.

2. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) finally got back on track in his last effort after a couple of rough trips in a row. Posted up well here in the 2 box, if he gets loose, he will be the one to beat.

3. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) loves the inside post positions and gets a good one here with the 3 box. She needs to make the most of it though and come out running early on tonight.

4. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) isn't getting enough credit as she has started to really feel at home over the longer distance. She won stakes rounds and beat everyone else last time out. Watch out for her again tonight.

5. Penny Candy (Stan's Boy Flyer - Majestic Angle) I don't think I need to explain her to anyone, but in case you were under a rock the last two years, she is the best of the best here, and one of the best in the country. She looks ready, we will see in this race if she is.

6. Xtra Style (Kl's Doug - Exceptional Bid) is an extreme closer that will be making up ground for sure at the end of this race. She is off a win, and 2nd place in the Derby! If she wants to break & run, it will be interesting.

7. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) was the winner of the 2010 Orange Park Derby. Forget the rough trip last time out and focus on this effort. The post might be his only obstacle in this race, but if he can get around, he could win for fun.

8. Kiowa Trent Tam (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) has not missed the money over 660 yards and looks to keep that trend going in this effort. The outside post might be tough for him here, but if he breaks he should have no issues getting inside. Can he keep it going? We will see.

Ok so I don't care what you have done for me lately. LOL! I like the veteran Penny Candy. If she is right, this will be a race for her to prove she is back as she takes home win #77 in her career. (Actually as a huge fan of this greyhound I just want her to go around well and show that she is returning to the form that we all know she is capable of. A win would be great, but an in the money effort would be good too. GOOD LUCK LITTLE GIRL!) Now next up and possible winner, Bad For Ya. Poor guy missed his break at two critical times, but still in the money in 10 of 12 races over 660 yards, including 6 wins, it's tough to vote against him. Post helps out here to and he might just be able to go straight to the lead. If he can steal enough away early on, no one might be able to get to him before the wire tonight. Now to the stakes winner, Eds Budby. This greyhound is a running machine as of late and all he has to do is be closer in order to win races. He runs the backside better than almost anyone I have seen over the added distance and in the later part of the race, he still has gears left in reserve. If he gets out close, it's going to be one heck of a race to watch. Kiowa Trent Tam might be a long way from the rail, but he has enough early on to overcome that. He is not going to flash out and surprise for the win tonight, but he should be able to do enough to keep his in the money streak alive in this effort.

Sunday - 2/21/2010

Sunday afternoon the 7th race on the card is the one for everyone to focus on.

1. Power Exchange (Craigie Whistler - Aunt Redmoon) is moving back to 550 from 660 and that makes him a late threat again today. From his best starting post, don't count him out as a winner here.

2. Kiowa More Ipod (Trojan Cruze - Kiowa Morley Cee) is a ship in that has flashed some good early speed in his limited starts at the OPKC. He has been short in all of those and will need a big break to contend today.

3. Kiowa Smedley (Dodgem By Design - Kiowa Heavenly) has track record speed and all he has to do is get clear to show it off. Finally back on the inside part of the racetrack, today might be the day!

4. Lamorge Banana (Lonesome Cry - Kb's Sikora) might be a bit over her head in this effort, as she is really up two grades and will have to deal with some really fast greyhounds. She did win back to back races and will need to break like she did in those efforts if she hopes to contend.

5. Where's Playtime (Dodgem By Design - Uss Agenda) is a good early speed greyhound that has been in grade A in 6 races in a row. If she wants to stay there again for another start, she needs to find her break again today.

6. Bf Dora (Dodgem By Design - Sol Lasting) reaches grade A in this race hot off of back to back winning efforts. She too is all about the early speed and will need to run her best from the break in order to get a look in this one.

7. Jean's Hiedi (Golddust Memory - Gifted Lex) is a strong closer that loves the outside post that she has been given in this effort. She has not missed the money in 6 efforts in a row and will be keepin on in this race.

8. Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) is the best early speed greyhound in this race and if she wants to hit it, she will be in command as they get to the turn. Her drawback is that she is short in the stretch and might not be able to hold on at the wire for the win.

Time to step out on that branch a bit in this effort. I like Kiowa Smedley. I know he has not been on the top of his game as of late, but speed is speed, and he finally gets another inside post position. He only has one in his last 6 starts and in that race, he won! Clearing close early on, he makes the most of his speed and takes home the win in the stretch. Leading the way will be Kb's Next Level. I know this is not the 1 box, but if she breaks, she will be in front. She is short late, but has held on before on the lead to win races. If there is any trouble behind her, she wins. Jeans Hiedi has everything going for her in this effort. She likes it wide. CHECK! She has good late speed to close by the leaders. CHECK! And she has not missed the money in 6 races in a row! CHECK! All she has to do is show up and she will factor with the winners at the wire again. Power Exchange gets the last look as he is in his best box. I know he is not a sprinter per say, but late he will show off those 660 skills and the post does the rest for the super.

Great Weekend On Tap at the OPKC!

Friday - 2/12/2010

Time for the big dogs to show up and perform again here at the Orange Park Kennel Club this weekend.

I've selected four great races to preview, one in each of the cards for the weekend. Three of which are over 550 yards, but the other is over 660 and features the recent winner of the 2010 Orange Park Derby Eds Budby.

Loads of excitement and good times are waiting to be had by all. So let's get ready for some world class greyhound racing here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

The fun gets started in the 15th race on the card for Friday evening.

1. Kiowa Kay Wilbur (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Kiowa Kay Kattie) is a good early speed greyhound that needs to be close to the early lead in order to be effective. Up from grade C, this race will be a challenge.

2. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) is a duel distance stakes finalist that is back at 550 in this effort. She runs better shorter and from this great post, she is a big threat to take home the win.

3. Cayenne Ferrari (Dodgem By Design - Cayenne Jet) gets a good post near the rail in this effort and she is going to need it moving up to grade A in this race. Closing ability might get her a piece of it late.

4. CDN Black Jack (Trent Lee - Cdn Crazy To Go) is another greyhound coming off a win into this race. Having late make up speed will be a bonus for him, but the 4 box might just be a huge hindrance.

5. Pat C BS Hiway (Elway Drive - Pat C Sweetwater) is the third grade B winner in this race. He's streaky and without the lead he has been suspect in the past. If he wants to compete he must come out running.

6. Miss Sylvie (Fuzzy Cannon - Miss Kissable) had a couple of great winning trips in a row and has the potential to upset in this effort. She is short late though, so a big break will be needed in this one.

7. Kiowa Vinita (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is the only greyhound in the field with 6 grade A starts in a row. Experience, the post, and closing power is all she needs to threaten tonight.

8. Sign And Drive (Dodgem By Design - Happiness) a former stakes winner has really started to find her break again over her last couple of efforts. If she keeps hitting the lid, she is going to be tough to beat.

This race should be a good one to watch. The two that vie for the win are the two best posted and stakes wary greyhounds in the field. At the start I think Sign And Drive makes the mark and surges to early control of this race. Uss Fine Touch will be just off in second and that will turn this race into a battle royal on the front end. In the stretch Fine Touch just has too much for the early speeder Sign and Drive and proves best at the finish line. Kiowa Vinita should also come on fast in the stretch and over take the following Miss Sylvie before the finish line. (2-8-7-6)

Saturday - 2/13/2010

Race two for you to consider comes on Saturday Matinee in race 11 on the card.

1. Hallo Triple A (Hallo West Acre - Car Bird's Seat) loves this post position and that might just be enough for him to win this race, well that is if he can decide to break and get out to the early lead today.

2. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) is back from Wheeling and hasn't missed a beat. She is tearing up the racetrack and today might just be a hat-trick if she can get to the lead once again.

3. Pure Performance (dodgem By Deign - Laveranues) is a talented upstart that's best attribute is his big time early speed. He is short late and will need to really be on top of his break to contend here.

4. Bleachy Boy (Lonesome Cry - Instant Vintage) is a super closing machine that has been tearing up the stretch over his last 5 races in a row. Hot off a win, the MOJO might just be on his side today.

5. Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) has a ton of quick foot from the starting box, but will have to make due from the 5 box in this effort. If this was the rail, he might just be the one to beat.

6. Fth Tiger Lilly (Take It Over - Fth Moon Dancer) is making daddy proud by competing at the top level of competition. She runs her best near the early lead in a race, but the break will be critical to her here.

7. Yourgood Imgreat (Diamond's For Me - Let's Run To Win) is a rebreeding that is looking just like the first time around. This greyhound has tons of talent and just misses beating Libby Lu last time out. Today might be revenge time.

8. Rays Balto (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is coming back to 550 after trying his hand over 660 yards. He is a strong closer over the shorter distance and if he gets loose early on, the race might be for place.

In this race I see Rs Libby Lu headed from the box to the wire on the front end for her third win in a row. By no means is this going to be romp though. She will be pressed throughout from different greyhounds, at different times, but in the end she steals enough early on to hold on at the wire for the win. Stalking early will be Kb's Next Level. She is the other big early speeder here, but without the lead she will sub come late to the closers and finished down the ranks. Also chasing should be Yourgood Imgreat. He just missed in this last effort and the outside post might help out his effort in this one. If he can get close early on, he might just have enough for the upset in this race. Let's not forget Bleachy Boy. He has really come into his own over the last month and today he will be flying up in the deep stretch once again to challenge. Winning back to back races might be a stretch, but contending at the finish line won't be. (2-7-4-5)

Saturday - 2/13/2010

Now over to the 660 yard course on Saturday evening. Saving the best for last, let's look at the 15th race.

1. Kiowa Uzzia (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) has taken well to the added distance and showed up well in the stakes. The 1 box is his best spot and will go a long way in helping him in this effort.

2. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) might not have fared well in the stakes finals, but she did make it there and ran tough in qualifying. The drawback tonight is the post, the 2 hole is not the 8 box.

3. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) always runs tough from the inside post positions and the 3 box is close enough to contend again. Hot off the stakes rounds & a win in grade B, she contends.

4. Kiowa Trent Tam (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) didn't get a chance in the stakes, but if you look at her lines, she can go the distance and factor well. As most converted sprinters, she is a bit short and needs to break well to factor.

5. Bl Tip Toe Marie (Lonesome Cry - Jr's Mojo) might be a bit over her head in this race, but you never know. She has won 3 of her last 4 races over 660 yards and the race she lost was a second by a neck.

6. Holly Noelle (Cricket Express - Solitary Camile) made the finals of the Orange Park Derby with her gritty front near the lead running style. Without it she is not the same greyhound, so she has to break tonight.

7. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) was red hot before the stakes and that is when the cooling trend started. He has not broke well in forever it seems, but if he does return to the front end, he could easily win this race. It's all up to him tonight.

8. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) no greyhound is hotter over 660 than BUDBY! He was the winner of the 2010 Orange Park Derby and with 4 straight and 5 of 6 wins, he is the one to beat!

It's tough to pick against the big dogs and I won't in this effort. Budby is running just too tough. With the lead, or from behind, he has been on a mission and I think that he will continue for a mighty long time. He has won 4 in a row and 5 in his last 6 starts, including a stakes final. The MAN continues on tonight. Next best, Bad For Ya! I think the outside post helps him get back on track tonight and he might even see the lead in this mostly closing field. If he can steal away enough early on, it wouldn't surprise me too much if he pulled off the upset. Other chasers should be the duo from Kay Smith. Kiowa True Love runs well from the inside and from this advantageous post position she gives her all once again. Upstart Kiowa Trent Tam has not missed the trifecta over 660, so why start tonight. She will be around throughout again for another in the money finish. (8-7-4-3)

Sunday - 2/14/2010

On Sunday Matinee we are doubling up on the DQ Williams Barn in the 7th race on the card. 1. Uss Out Of Sight (Gable Dodge - Uss Untouched) absolutely loves the rail and gets the railest of rail post to start this race from, the 1 box. She has late speed over 550 and the return from the route helps her again today.

2. Pru Whistler (Craigie Whistler - Rambo For A Win) broke out of her slump in her last race from a rail post, and this is a rail post as well. She is a different greyhound from here, and that late speed will get her into the mix.

3. Kiowa Vincent (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) needs to put her last couple of races behind him and get back to breaking in this effort. If he is close tonight, he will be effective in this trip around the oval.

4. Fth Briar Rose (Take It Over - Fth Moon Dancer) is making her debut in grade A hot off a win in her last effort. She has good early speed and can hang tough once she has make the lead in a race. She needs a big break if she wants a chance tonight.

5. Kiowa Shanna Cay (Flying Hydrogen - Flying Monica K) is a big time closer that runs her best in the deep stretch in races. She usually is a little too late to win, but does factor. Now in A, she needs to step it up.

6. Tipsy Streaker W (Tipsy Character - Jetstar Streaker) did win a schooling race from this post position by 10 lengths. Her starts in grade A have not been that grand, but tonight might just be break out time.

7. Where's Playtime (Dodgem By Design - Uss Agenda) has some big time early speed and when she wants to break, she can put some distance between her and the rest of the field early on. With that comes being short at the end of the race. She will need plenty against these if she wants to win.

8. Sassy Gloria (Fuzzy Cannon - Sassy Nan) is a streaky running that is a monster when she wants to run. Looking at her last effort, it might be time to get on the bandwagon in this effort, especially if she breaks to the front again.

I'm a jumper in this effort. Time to piggyback on Sassy Gloria. She has found her break and in the lead she is as tough as anyone on the circuit, and without it, she is still tough to take down. She gets away from the crowd in the 8 box and should follow early leader Where's Playtime to the corner and make quick work of her before the stretch. This one could get ugly. Pru Whistler is the other DQ greyhound that has a shot to win this effort. She is a monster from the rail and gets close enough in the blue blanket. She can come from way downtown to steal away a win, i.e. look at her last effort, and not that she is coming back into form, she might outrun them all late for the win. Uss Out Of Sight is also a posted up closer in this race. She likes the rail, check, she is back at 550, check, and has enough late to challenge the big two in the stretch. It's all in her lap, let's see how she responses. Now for the one being caught, Where's Playtime. As the only big time early speed greyhound around, she should be able to see the lead early on in this effort. She will be short late, but the question is HOW SHORT? If there is trouble behind she won upset on the lead, especially from the good outside post position.

Looky here! Penny Candy is back on the Orange Park Track!

After a couple of more months off the golden girl might be ready this time around to get back to competing and winning here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

All-American Penny Candy looked strong in her schooling race yesterday as she stalked early and drove by the leader in the stretch to take home the victory.

Showing again all of the heart that she has in the past, everyone here was glad to see our champion back on the racetrack and providing us with the thrill that she has brought us so many times in the past.

RACE REPLAY

Currently she is sitting at 76 wins for her career and is just 4 short of the mighty list of all time greats.

Look for her in the upcoming weeks to take on the challenge and try to get into that elite list of greyhounds over the next couple of months.

Even if she doesn't get it done, there is no doubt in my book that she is one of the best greyhounds to ever compete here and that makes her an all time great to me.

Croweing Loud in the Finals of the Orange Park Derby

Another Orange Park Derby is in the books but the 2010 edition will be something to be remembered for quite a while for many here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Eds Budby put on an impressive display in the finals for the win, but that is not what is going to be remembered so much. The main focus would be which kennel Budby resides in and who owns him.

Budby is from the Crowe Kennel and is owned by trainer Mike Crowe. No one in the compound works harder than Mike and sometimes it feels really good to see the good guy finish first.

Mike has had several stakes finalists over the last 15 years that I have worked here, but he has never won any of those races. Here in the finals of the Orange Park Derby the tide turned in the right direction and he finally won a stakes race.

At the break tonight Rays Scout flew to the early lead and was clean sailing in the open air up front as there was trouble behind him in the early turn. Sneaking thru it was Eds Budby, Uss Fine Touch and Holly Noelle. Up the front stretch the lead pack continued to chase the leader. Three lengths clear of the competition, Rays Scout, felt good, but his problem was the Eds Budby was already in second and he was not slowing up at all. By the start of the backside the lead had shrunk to almost nothing and by the end of the toteboard Budby was in the lead. Frankly from that point on, this race just got ugly. Budby left the rest in his wake as he drew away for fun and demolished this stakes caliber field by 9 lengths at the finish line as he stopped the clock at a speedy 37.38 second clocking. Second was the only returning finalist Xtra Style. The only real closer in the field, came from WAY back to get up for place in the photo over early leader Rays Scout. Uss Fine Tough finished in the money in his second stakes final in a row as he completed the superfecta. Rounding out the field was Bad For Ya in 5th, Holly Noelle in 6th, Gs Ashlynn in 7th, and race favorite La's Lucy in 8th.

Congratulation head out to Eds Budby, Kennel Owner and Greyhound Owner Mike Crowe, Breeder Tracy Chase, and the first owner of this greyhound Ed Litogot, Jr. He raced several greyhound on our circuit and it is sad that he is no longer with us, and he didn't get to see his named greyhound win a stakes title.

Continued success for this fantastic distance greyhound from everyone here on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit.

Race Breakdown for 2010 Orange Park Derby

Saturday - 2/6/2010

It's time for the best of the best over 660 yards to compete for the title of champion in the 2010 Orange Park Derby. The finals will run on Saturday Evening February 6, 2010 in the 11th race on the card.

Don't forget on Saturday Evening we will also be running our Sweet Winning Promotion where we give away sweet treats along with sweet cash in the 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th races.

Race Breakdown:

1. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) has shown loads of early speed over 660 yards and draw a very advantageous post position in this final round race. He is coming off a rough start and needs to get back breaking quick if he is going to contend in this effort.

2. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) has been nothing but exceptional over 660 yards so far. Winning 6 of 10, and finishing in the money in 9 of those starts, he will be a force to be reckoned with in this effort, that is if he can find his break and get out of the starting box.

3. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) is starting to figure this whole 660 yard thing out. The more races she runs, the better she has done. Early speed is her best weapon and a big break would go a long way to help her out in this race, especially from a tough inside post position.

4. La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) is another Get Over greyhound in a stakes final. GO FIGURE! Lucy was the pre-race favorite and did nothing to lose that crown in the qualifying rounds. She won 3 of 4 and posted up the best time in the process. She will most likely be the betting favorite tonight.

5. Xtra Style (Kl's Doug - Exceptional Bid) is the only real big time closer in this race and if there is trouble on or near the early lead, she might have a shot at the upset in this one. Another added bonus for her is the post position. She loves the 5 BOX! With 6 wins in 7 starts from here, she might just surprise them all in this race.

6. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) took his game to a whole new level in the stakes rounds. He was the leader in points by winning 3 of 4 and finishing in the quiniela throughout. He is no one trick pony as he can win with or without the early lead. He will factor, and with no speed around, he has a good chance to steal the title.

7. Holly Noelle (Cricket Express - Solitary Camile) is up with the big boys and girls here and will need to step up her game if she wants to put on the big upset. B & J has done it in the past, ie see Se's Top Speed, but she will need to come out running again in this effort if she has any though of a win tonight.

8. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is from a talented litter that almost all competed in the qualifying rounds. He was the last one standing and hopes his early speed is enough to get him home a winner. Posted up well away from the crowd, he might have an unabated shot at the lead tonight. Holding on to it might just be the real task in this effort.

Everyone tonight is going to show up and come out running. I believe that the 2 greyhound Bad For Ya is going to break extremely close and will take over the lead in the early stages of this race. WHY? Because, the 3 Gs Ashlynn is going to break and go wide from the starting box and he is going to have all kinds of room to run thru the early turn. If La's Lucy clears ahead of the 3 from the 4 box and gets a clean run, then she might just be the one to beat in this race. I think it is going to be hard for her to come out unscathed, especially since Ashlynn has been breaking much better as of late. Another party to challenge for the front and maybe even get there is Rays Scout and Uss Fine Touch. Both have the goods to get it done, but Scout has the better chance as he is far outside and away from the hustle and bustle of the crowd. Drawback for both is that they are short, short, short once they are passed in a race. Don't count out Eds Budby either. This greyhound is sitting between two that might come out of the box really slowly. He might just gets some room early too and as the second best closer in the field, he might have a shot at the leaders for the long haul.

At the break look for Rays Scout, La's Lucy, and Bad for Ya to come out running. Scout should be in the front with Bad For Ya on his heels. Lucy will be just off and Eds Budby will be chasing on the inside. Scout will continue on the lead to the far turn and that is where Bad for Ya takes over. Lucy and Budby will continue to drive and at the far turn it is a three greyhound race for the finish line. Bad For Ya digs in deep late and survives at the finish line just ahead of Lucy and Budby at the wire. Scout fades back a bit late, but still holds on in the superfecta.

Semi-Finals of the 2010 Orange Park Derby

Monday - 2/1/2010

And then there was TWO! Yes, just 2 races full of fantastic greyhound jockeying for points in the semi-finals of the 2010 Orange Park Derby.

These 16 greyhounds will lock up in head to head competition and as of right now, it is almost anyone's game. We have no undefeated greyhounds remaining and the new point leader is Eds Budby.

There is a slew of early speed greyhounds and a mess of closers over 660 yard chasing them. This round really comes down to pure desire. Who wants it more! Who wants to make the finals? We will find out soon enough.

The first of the two events on the card takes place in the 7th race on the card.

1. Kiowa Trent Tovi (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) is all rail all the time and the one box will go a long way in helping his effort in this race. He has not missed the trifecta in the rounds, maybe more of the same.

2. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) has shown good early speed over 660 yards and will need to come out running once again in this effort if she wants to contend at the finish line.

3. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) has been strutting his stuff in the rounds and is currently the man on top in points. All he needs to put up here is a solid effort & he will make the finals.

4. Eds Go For It (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) has not won a round yet, but she has been a force in each and every effort. She has not missed the money in 3 straight, tonight might be her night.

5. Racheal Lee (Get Over - Nothing But Fine) is the only stakes winner left in the derby. She knows how to win and if she wants to run, she could easily dominate. A big race is needed to reach the finals.

6. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has been bombing from the starting box over 660 and could be the one to catch once again in this effort. If he gets away enough early, it could be back to back wins.

7. On The Fly (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) needs to rebound after a tough race last time out. She can run from the lead or from behind, but if she wants the finals, she needs to break tonight.

8. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) has started to figure this 660 thing out at the right time. Still she needs more points to move on. The 8 box is a big bonus for her tonight. She might upset again.

At the break this race is really going to be crowded. Rays Scout, Uss Fine Touch, Eds Budby and maybe even Gs Ashlynn are going to look to control this race from the get go. I think Scout is the one to make the lead, but the question is can he hold on all the way to the finish line for the win? I think not! Budby will be too close too soon for Scout to get it done. Budby should continue on his great run in this effort and put up another win tonight. Everyone else better pay attention to the veteran too. Racheal Lee is starting to get it revved up in the stakes and if she wants to run, OUCH! She is the class and will be flying up late to take down almost everyone for a spot in the quiniela in this effort. Scout should hold on for third as Uss Fine Touch presses throughout and gets outfinished late and has to settle for the last spot in the superfecta. (3-5-6-2)

The second stake event on this evening is in the 11th race on the card.

1. Kiowa Uzzia (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) has made up ground throughout in all of the rounds and the one box is a great starting post for him in this effort. He might need a win to make the finals.

2. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) draws back near the rail after missing it terribly in her last race. The post alone is enough for everyone to take notice of her in this race. Watch out!

3. Gabe Candice (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) can close a ton when she wants too, but is tonight one of those nights? That is the real question! The post should be ok, and late she could really challenge.

4. La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is Best) was unbeaten thru 2 rounds and now needs to get back on track after a trouble ridden race last time out. All she needs to do is get out of the box well, and the rest takes care of itself.

5. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) was the other undefeated greyhound in the stakes and needs to come out running in this effort. In the last race he broke last and it cost him his quiniela streak. Tonight, redemption is at hand!

6. Holly Noelle (Cricket Express - Solitary Camile) looked tremendous in round one, but has since been outrushed and outrun in the stakes. If she wants a shot, she needs to break on top in this effort.

7. Rays Taxman (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has enough early speed to make the front in this effort. He just needs to show it. Forget the last race is what he would like to do, with another big win in the stakes here.

8. Xtra Style (Kl's Doug - Exceptional Bid) has been there and done that. This stakes veteran showed her true form in round two and will need a similar one in this race. A big time closer, she must be around early on.

I see this race being a DQ battle from the start to the finish. At the break La's Lucy and Bad For Ya will show up and come out running to challenge Rays Taxman for the early lead. All three of these great greyhounds could be leading the way, but only one of them is going to take home the win. Even if Taxman gets the early nod, he is not going to be able to hold off the firepower toward the end of this effort. Lucy, Bad For Ya, either way you like them, it's a quiniela baby. Tax man should settle in for third or fourth depending on how Kiowa True Love runs from another rail post position. If she come out with the early leaders here she might just finish a bit higher up the totem pole at the wire. (5-4-2-7)

Remember the post position draw in Wednesday Matinee and the finals of this race will run on Saturday Evening February 6th in conjunction with our Sweet Winning Promotion.

All Bets Were Off in Quarter-Finals of Orange Park Derby

After the third round of the 2010 Orange Park Derby, no greyhounds remained unscathed. Both Bad For Ya and La's Lucy encountered early trouble and finished out of the top spot for the first time in the rounds.

No big problem for the big two though from the DQ barn. They safely move on to the semi-finals and with another solid trip, both should have a shot to be starting in the final 8 on Saturday evening at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Making the most noise though was the Crowe Kennel entry, Eds Budby. This greyhound pulled out another great race from his bag of tricks and took home the best effort on the card in the 7th race. He broke close and rushed to command this race early on. He held tough on the front end and held off the super talented Racheal Lee in the stretch for the victory. He might have won by the smallest margin in all three races, but his 37.52 second clocking was the best on the evening. With this win, Eds Budby takes over the top spot in points for this event. Props also head out to Kiowa Trent Tovi. This greyhound has shined in the Derby and finished a close third in this effort, behind Racheal Lee.

Now for the upsets. In race 10 Gs Ashlynn broke extremely well from the outside starting box and was in control of this race early on. She cruised throughout on the lead and was never really threatened at all. Granted there was some trouble around behind her, but she did have to get to the lead in the first place. Although the closers did make up some ground late, they were no match as she easily too home the win in this effort. Next best was Gabe Candice. This greyhound closer well throughout and outfinished Bad For Ya in the stretch for place. Bad For Ya was the overwhelming favorite to win here, but sitting in the box is not a good thing to do at the break. He was last early on and frankly ran a huge race just to get back into contention for show.

The other upset came in the 11th race as Rays Scout wired the field on the front end. This greyhound exploded to the early lead and was in complete control this race. He never looked back and just kept on keeping on the lead as he easily won this effort. Chasing him the entire way was Uss Fine Touch. Try as she might she just couldn't gain any ground on the leader in this race, and had to settle for place. Eds Joy Of Pride gained into show and race favorite La's Lucy overcame early trouble and managed to steal away 4th place at the finish line.
