La's Lucy's DIAMOND Effort

I guess you can get jaded at times with all the distance power that the DQ Williams Kennel brings in each and every start. Or maybe I'm just spoiled that they send in a ton of talent to their kennel here on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit and most of us have come accustom to them winning and dominating races over the extended routes.

From Daddysgonafishin, to Golddust Memory, to Stopable Derrick, to Brother Mind, to Let's Play Fair, to Running Starlite, to Santa's Playgirl, to two time All-American Penny Candy, you expect them to obliterate the competition, but their newest entry La's Lucy did something in her last start that none of these big names have accomplished.

La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) broke from the 8 box on Saturday Evening 3/27/2010 and took quick command of the race. She drove thru the early turn and breezed clear of the field and coasted all the way around the racetrack on the front end. She was never in question and make it look easy. She even beat the 2010 Orange Park Derby winner, Eds Budby, in the process, but that is not what made this effort so special. It was the time that she put up! You see La's Lucy clocked a 37.06 run.

No one in the last couple of years has even come close to the 37.00 barrier and to get within a length of it, really mean something. It means she was flay out flying in this race!

The last greyhound to get close, well that would be the current 770 yard track record holder Gil's Cuero. He posted up the same 37.06 second romp just over 3 years ago on 3/16/2007. In that race he won by 13 lengths and dominated from the get go.

Previous to that you would have to go deep in the archives and get back to the other surface and greyhounds from the past. Jams Alex would be the one to take that away. He ran 36.92 and 39.96 back in 1993. (Thanks for the INFORMATION JIMMY!)

So even though La's Lucy tied the best in the past three years, she had the fastest time in the last 17 years overall.

Currently the track record is held by Hobby Helper who's 36.73 second run is totally impressive and has stood since 1989.

Congratulations head out to the DQ Williams Kennel, Owner Sharon L. Williams, Trainer David Helton, and everyone else connected with this tremendous greyhound. Continued success and did I mention that yes this is another fantastic greyhound out of GET OVER!

Wake up people and breed to him, he throws a ton of grade A's, stakes entries, stakes winners, and very fast greyhound. Ok, done plugging. LOL!

Semi-Finals of 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic

Monday - 3/29/2010

With just one round left before the finals of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic field is set, a bunch of greyhound still have an opportunity to step up and secure themselves a spot in the elite eight.

For this round the field has been cut down to three remaining races and each of the twenty-four greyhounds want to find their way into the finals of this event.

Loads of talent are still in the mix including former stakes competitors, finalists, and even stakes winners.

Only two greyhound have won more than one race, Lady Avery and Hallo Mr Great, tonight they find themselves in separate races once again. If either of them gets taken down tonight, it could really add a money wrench into the point totals and who makes the finals.

The first race in the semi-finals on the card is the 7th.

1. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) loves the rail and gets the one box in this effort. The post with the most will be enough to get him close early and try for the upset. He was the leader in points for the 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile, and has righted the ship at the right time in the rounds. Tonight he should contend.

2. Kiowa Gooddesign (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) is a big time early speeder that draws a great post position once again here on the inside part of the racetrack. Doubt it? Look at her last race where she almost won from this very same starting box. Short late, YES, but if she can steal enough early, you never know.

3. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) has some early speed of her own, you just don't know when she is going to use it. In round two she did, but in rounds one and three she did not. If she wants to have a shot at the finals, she will need to come out running in this effort.

4. La's Anthony (Dustin The Way - La's Felisha) is the only returning finalist in the field and he is once again in contention to get there again this year. He has found his break and is running on fresh legs. IO know he would rather be on the rail, but the 4 box is not that far off. If he breaks again, he will be in the mix for the win at the wire.

5. Sassy Gloria (Fuzzys Cannon - Sassy Nan) had a rough trip last time out from this very same starting box and if she doesn't break well, it could be a repeat in this race. She has good closing speed, but she still needs to be close enough early on to contend. If she gets back to breaking, she might have an outside shot in this round.

6. Fay's Mcqueen (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) looked great in the 1st round as he won his 4th race in a row, but since he has not looked good at the start and has found trouble on the way to the 1st turn. If he does break, he could easily wire this field on the front end, but if he sits in the box, he will have to wait until the next stakes to contend.

7. Kiowa Fly Remi (Flying Stanley - Flying Rolling) is the third Kay Smith greyhound in this field and like the other two, she is all about the early speed. In order to be effective, likes he was in round 2 from this post, she needs to beat the box and make it to the early lead. She cannot win races from behind and will need the 16 points for a chance to take home a final round position.

8. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) still has a shot to make her 3rd stakes final in a row, and tonight she gets a post position that could be a difference maker. She loves it wide and gets the widest of the wide posts here in the 8 box. Over 550 she is a closer and should be rushing up late to challenge the leaders at the wire for the win in this effort.

This race is going to be very interesting, and the most important part of the race might just be the break. Just who is going to come out well? Who is going to make the lead? And who is going to be close enough to possibly take down the leaders before the wire? I like La's Anthony here. He is vying for another chance at that ever elusive stakes title and remember his dad won this very race back in 2004. Here I don't expect him to beat the blazers to the turn, but he will be stalking early and in the stretch it will be a determined late victory. Setting the pace should be Kiowa Gooddesign, but I don't know if he can steal enough even to hold on for second place at the finish line. He does have the talent to wire this field on the front end, just like he did in round 1, but he will need some help behind him to get it done tonight. The post will push him along, but short is short in the stretch especially with the big guns closing in late. Gm's Cashman gets a look here too, especially from the 1 box. He loves the rail and runs as close as anyone to it in any race. He has really righted the ship and has been tough in each of the rounds so far. Remember he was the leader in points for the 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile and knows how to get it done in the qualifying rounds. If he decides to come out running, he might just upset this talented field. Another greyhound not to forget is Gs Ashlynn. This greyhound finally gets to start from her best box and that alone might catapult her into her third stakes final in a row. She needs a win to have a chance in this race and everything is set up for her to steal it in this effort. Let's see if she steps up to the plate and knocks it out of the park in this effort. (4-1-8-2)

The second of the three qualifying races in the semi-finals runs in the 10th, the 1st half of the forced out Twin-Trifecta.

1. Blaze N Ray (Craigie Whistler - Rayvan) has found his form once again and looks to be running like he was when he made the finals of this race back in 2008. His closing ability is back and he has even started to break better on occasion. He loves the rail and can really put up some big efforts from here. If he gets loose early on, this race is over.

2. Eds Mark Time (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokee Girl) is a good closer that will be making up ground throughout once again in this effort. He likes the inside and has been successful from this post position in the past, but against this talented field he is going to have his hands full. He will need every point that he can muster if he wants a chance to move on to the finals.

3. Hallo Triple A (Hallo West Acre - Cat Bird's Seat) is a solid breaker and rusher that can take over races when the mood suits him, and in the stakes his mood has been pretty good. He has factored close in two of the three efforts and both of those came from inside post positions. Here he gets another can could go toe to toe with the top guns again.

4. Bleachy Boy (Lonesome Cry - Instant Vintage) is a big time closer over 550 yards and has been coming on throughout in each of the stakes rounds. He has not been able to win one yet and will need to in this race if he wants to run on Saturday. He might be a stretch for that top spot, but clearly a shoe in for another in the money effort.

5. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) is better than his recent lines have shown. He is still looking to make his third stakes final in a row, and let's remember he finished in the money in the other two. He did win in round one and will need to channel that breaking ability again tonight if he stands a chance.

6. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) has posted up back to back wins and is tied for the point lead heading into this round. He has blazing early speed and that has helped him get to where he finds himself today. He is the one to beat in this effort as he looks for his 6th race in a row in the Quiniela.

7. Kiowa Trent Tam (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) surprised them all in his last race as he took down the not so short, La's Anthony, at the wire for the win. He was 23-1 in that effort and might find himself there again from the outside in this race. He will need to get to the rail and if he does, this Cinderella story might be over just yet.

8. Wp's Commodore (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) got loose on the lead in the last round and posted up the fastest time in all of qualifying. He is a monster up front and with a good post to break from in this effort, expect him to show up at the party with bells on. If he can get to the lead, it could be back to back wins for this big boy.

This race sets up well for Blaze N Ray. Ok, so he won't be in the lead early on but don't count him out. He loves this post position and is a whole different greyhound where wearing the red blanket. Here he is going to be close enough early on to take down everyone before the finish line tonight. Hallo Mr Great should be the pacesetter once again in this effort. He has the best early speed of the bunch and is running at the peak of his game. He has seen the lead in 4 of his last 5 races and in 2 of those he has held on for the win, and in the other 2 he was caught from behind. So his chances at 3 wins in a row in this effort, are 50, 50. Wp's Commodore gets a look after that tremendous effort in his last race and of course the wonderful post position that he drew in this effort. He breaks really well from the outside and as long as he is close early, he is a threat to win almost any race. The upside for him is huge, can he make the most of it tonight? Bleachy Boy is the best closer in the bunch and we all know what he is going to do late. The question is, what is he going to do early on? If he can get close enough at the start, he might have a shot at taking everyone down before the finish line, if he doesn't well then you get more of the same. Another in the money finish from off the pace. (1-6-8-4)

The third and final stakes race on the card comes in semi-final race number 11.

1. Kiowa Shag Along (Flying Stanley - Kiowa Shag Sue) draws the 1 box for the 4th straight qualifying race. It was good to him in the 1st two rounds, but it found him trouble late in the third round race. Here he needs to find his break and come out in a hurry if he wants a chance to pull off the upset.

2. KB's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) has great early speed and when he hits the lid, he is tough to take down before the finish line. In round one, that was the effort he gave, but since he has not been on top of it. He has not been breaking quickly and needs to get back into form from yet another good inside post position in this effort.

3. Kiowa Kind Gel (Flying Penske - Kiowa Oneofakind) is another early speeder that needs to have the lead in order to be effective in this race. Like most true early speeders, she pays for it late and can be short, short, short in the stretch. If she can get back to the lead tonight, she might have a chance to win.

4. Lady Avery (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) has been the picture of determination so far in the qualifying rounds. She is tied for the lead in points so far and has not been denied in back to back efforts. She is the best closer and gives her all at the wire. Will it be enough again late to post up another win before the finals? We will see.

5. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) was the pre-race favorite to win this race, but she will need to work here just to make sure she has a spot in that final round race. She is tied for the 8th spot in qualifying right now, and would be out if the rounds ended today. She needs a big effort and we all know it's in her! Let's see the inner strength shine thru tonight.

6. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has been close throughout in all of the stakes rounds and he posted up one of the best efforts so far in qualifying with his win 2 races ago in round 2. He still has what it takes to win against the best that the racetrack has to offer, but he needs to come out close if he is going to get it done in this one.

7. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) is an even runner with a bit of close to him at the end of the race. He likes it on the edges and the 7 box should not be a bad spot for him to start from. Breaking well will be the key to his success in this effort. If he decides to come out fast, he will factor throughout and at the wire tonight.

8. Eds Joy Of Pride (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) has really stepped her game in the stakes rounds. She has been closing like a mad woman and has been on a mission to show off her talented over the shorter course. Brother Eds Budby won the Orange Park Derby, and now she is trying to do the same in the Jacksonville Sprint Classic. If she wants to get there, she needs another big trip tonight.

This race is going to be something special to watch. With not that many big time early speed greyhounds, and a couple of slow breaking ones to either side of her, Rs Libby Lu should make the most of the empty post next to her and take the lead in this effort. Once in front, Libby will steal away as many as she can on the rest of this field and take home the very slim win at the finish line. WHY? Well there are a good bunch of closers that will be coming after her at the finish line. Lady Avery has won back to back efforts and each has been by a neck, so why would that change in this race. She is going to be giving her all throughout and in the stretch she will make another tremendous rush and see if she can complete the hat trick or not. It's going to be close and may the best greyhound on this day prevail. Rays Scout gets the benefit of drawing next to Libby and that should give him someone to chase to the turn and spark his interest throughout this effort. If he can keep up the pace to the stretch, he might have a shot to steal one away from the queen at the finish line. The other closer to consider has to be Eds Joy Of Pride. This little girl has been running her eyeballs out during the qualifying rounds and even though she has just one win, she has been a threat in the stretch in all of her efforts. She has not missed the trifecta in 6 races in a row and could keeps that streak going in this race. That is if she can overcome the post and find a way to get to the rail tonight. (5-4-6-8)

The post positions for the finals will be drawn in Wednesday Matinee at the Orange Park Kennel Club and the finals of this event will take place on Saturday Evening April 3rd in conjunction with our Mad Mad Money Machine and drink special promotions.

Three Down and one To GO!

The third round of the stakes was not so much a kennel dominating, like in the first two rounds, but more of a couple of greyhounds dominating.

So who stepped up their game? Well the point leaders did of course! Lady Avery and Hallo Mr Great might have conflicting styles of races, but there is one thing that they seem to have in common, winning stake rounds.

In race 10 Lady Avery made it exciting again as she didn't take the lead until the finish line for the second race in a row. She won by just a neck and had to give everything she had in the stretch to get it done. Hey, but what else would you expect from the ultra closing DQ Williams Kennel? NOTHING! Props also head out to Hallo Triple A and Kiowa Gooddesign in this race. Both of these greyhounds ran as hard as they could, but came up on the short end of this stick this time around.

Race 15 was much different as Hallo Mr Great outrushed everyone to the early lead and never looked back. He coasted all the way around the racetrack in front and was never really challenged at any point after he took command. He was more than 2 lengths clear of the closers, Gs Ashlynn and Eds Joy Of Pride, at the finish line and looked GREAT winning this effort.

Both Lady Avery and Hallo Mr Great are tied after three rounds of stakes in points with a pair of wins and a second place finish each.

The big time race on the evening card came from the B & J Kennel and their greyhound Wp's Commodore. Running for a little family pride, Commodore has the same mom as last year's winner Count Ivan. Like his half brother, he is a terror on the early lead and that is just where he found himself in this round. He broke well, rushed hard to the turn, and took off on the front end thru the turn and down the backside. He continued on his torrid pace all the way to the finish line and was a couple of lengths clear of the competition at the wire. Posting up the best time of the card, 30.44 seconds, Commodore just threw his hat into the ring with this one.

The other stakes race came in the 11th on the card and it was a monster run by Kiowa Trent Tam. Finally this greyhound got around close and did something that you don't see every day, he ran down La's Anthony with the late lead. I know it was only by a nose, but a win is a win is a win and at 23-1 you have to love the effort put out. Running up behind him was the who's who list of greyhounds. Former finalists La's Anthony, Blaze N Ray, and Sunshine Silver Cup winner Rs Libby Lu. Now if he wants to move on in the stakes, he needs to put up a repeat performance in his next effort.

3rd Round of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic

Friday - 3/26/2010

The third round of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic, on Friday evening March 26th, is going to be a hot one. No greyhound remains undefeated in this stakes and the points are all over the place. Tons of greyhounds are still within striking distance of the point lead, and with the field being cut down to just 4 races, everyone is going to have to battle for those dwindling spots.

Who will show up in this round?? Can the first round winners get back on track tonight, or will the second round dominators keep the good times rolling on? One thing we do know, you needed to be close to get it done, so breaking is going to play a big roll once again in the outcome of these races.

The first stakes race on the card comes in the 7th race.

1. Kiowa Shag Along (Flying Stanley - Kiowa Shag Sue) must be living right as she draws the one box for the third race in a row. In the first two rounds she finished in the money from here, tonight you might expect more of the same.

2. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) showed mad skills in the 1st round with a win, but the 5 box did him in the second round. Back inside at the start of this race, he could return to breaking and winning tonight.

3. Wp's Commodore (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) got off the snide in the stakes rounds with a strong second place effort last time out. Post doesn't matter all that much to him, but breaking does. He need to be close early to be effective in this race.

4. Kiowa Trent Tovi (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) looked good in the 1st stakes round, but struggled in the second. Closing is his best attribute, but he needs to have a clear lane to rush up in if he wants to be in the mix in the stretch.

5. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) showed the form that got him in the money in back to back stakes finals in round 1, but in the second round he missed his break and got into trouble. Tonight he need to rebound and show his stuff.

6. Game Candice (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) ran a huge race last time out and flew home to challenge the leader for the win. Normally a router, Candice need to want it again in this effort if she wants to move on in the stakes.

7. Bleachy Boy (Lonesome Cry - Instant Vintage) has made up ground throughout in both rounds but it has been too little too late for a shot at the win. Here he is a long way from the rail, but if he can get there untouched he might have a chance to steal away a victory.

8. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) is riding high off a couple of big efforts so far in the stakes rounds. He has been breaking very well, for him, and even though he showed some tough trips from the outside, I think this is an ok spot for him to start from. Watch out again tonight.

As the rabbit rounds the bend and the box pops open a couple of different greyhounds may be trying to get to the early lead, but only one will make it. Uss Fine Touch. Touch will take the extra room at the break from the empty box and find a lane to rush up into. He will be pressed throughout, but should be good enough for the win. Chasing the leader will be Kiowa Shag Along and Dirty Picture. Both greyhound has not missed the ticket so far in the stakes and from decent post positions, you should get more of the same in this effort. Don't count out Bleachy Boy either. We all know he will be flying at the end of this race trying to run down the leaders and if there is any trouble up front, he has a chance to take home the win. (5-1-8-7)

Second up in the remaining qualifying heats is the 10th race on the card.

1. Lady Avery (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) is tied for the lead in points after two rounds of the stakes. She has been closing extremely well and has enough gears late to get to anyone here in the stretch too. Did I mention that she has the one box tonight? Well, you can figure out the rest.

2. Kiowa Gooddesign (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) is a blazing early speed greyhound that outrushed everyone to the lead and took home a win in round 1. Round 2 was not as kind as she was taking out of contention in the far turn. Here she should be unabated to the lead on the rail.

3. Kiowa Fly Remi (Flying Stanley - Flying Rolling) surprised them all in round two as he grabbed quick command of the race and held on all the way to the wire for the win. Early speed is his only weapon, and if he wants a chance to win again, he must hit the lid.

4. Hallo Triple A (Hallo West Acre - Cat Bird's Seat) was a first round winner, but finished out of it after trouble in round 2. He has a solid rush to the turn and can hang with the best of them when he wants to run, the problem is you never know when that is going to be. If he wants it here, pay attention.

5. Fay's Mcqueen (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) was riding high on a 4 race win streak heading into the second round, but there he missed his break and that was the end to that. All he has to do is decide to fire out fast and this race will be his to lose.

6. Whistle Bit (Get Over - Lap Baby) might be a bit over her head against this talented field, but so far in the stakes she has been holding her own. Ok, so she hasn't challenged for the win or anything, but she has finished in the money twice. Not too bad for a grade C greyhound!

7. Charmurpantsoff (San Tan Riffraff - Majestic Angle) is still running for adoption and looks to improve on a couple of so, so efforts. Here he is in with not a lot of early speed and that should help him get closer at the start of this race. He needs to step it up, let's see if he is up to the task.

8. Steel Reserve (Iruska All Star - Gable Pops) looked good in the 1st round, but didn't fare so well in the second. Here he needs to do one thing if he is going to compete, he MUST break. He only runs when he is close to the early lead, so that is where he needed to be in this race.

Time for a new win streak to start. I don't expect Fay's Mcqueen to miss the start in back to back races, and against this field, she should easily be able to make the lead. Once in front she can prove short on occasion, but should steal enough early on to survive the late chargers in the stretch. Tying to make it interesting will be Lady Avery. Lady Avery is the best closer in the bunch and if she gets around close, she might be the one that continues her win streak in this effort. She is really on top of her game right now and if she were to run down the rivals late, frankly I would not be surprised at all. Kiowa Gooddesign is the only other greyhound in this field that has the early speed to get in front of Mcqueen before the first turn. If he does decide to hit it in this effort, he could see himself getting back on track with another win in the qualifying rounds. Post, yes that is helping him out as well tonight. Charmurpantsoff is way better than his lines show, he just hasn't been running up to his former form. He has not been breaking and that is the main reason that he has been finishing like he has. The outside post might help him get a lane early on, and if he does come to play in this effort, he has the skills needed for the upset. (5-1-2-7)

Race three of four comes your way in the 11th race on the card.

1. La's Anthony (Dustin The Way - La's Felisha) is the only returning finalist in this field and he looked like it in round 2. He loves the rail and the one box will go a long way to help him contend again tonight. If he gets loose early, it could be back to back winning efforts.

2. Kiowa Trent Tam (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) gets another good rail post in this race and slowly she is getting back into closing in time form over 550 yards. She needs to make the transition a bit faster though if she wants to move on in the stakes.

3. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) was the pre-race favorite and in her round 2 effort she looked like it. There she got back to breaking and was in complete control from box to wire. Here she is posted up well and should show off her true talented again.

4. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a big time early speed greyhound that just missed out on stealing away a win in round 2. Breaking on top is her only chance to get around with these big dogs and finish in the money.

5. Fth Chinook Arch (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) got close early in round two and that was difference between an 8th in round 1 and a 2nd place finish in round 2. A solid even running, Arch, needs to make the most of the empty box next to him, and find a way into early contention tonight.

6. Eds Mark Time (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) hasn't been to threatening to the leaders so far in the stakes, but he has been consistent. In both rounds he has been closing throughout the race and has factored in the money at the finish line. As long as he can stay clear, he has a money shot again here.

7. Kiowa Kind Gel (Flying Penske - Kiowa Oneofakind) is an early speed demon that can go to the turn with the best of them at the racetrack. Her drawback is that she can be short at the end of the race. So far in the stakes, so good, two in the money efforts. Tonight more of the same.

8. Blaze N Ray (Craigie Whistler - Rayvan) the 2008 finalist might be an older dog, but he still has some new tricks for the competition. He posted up a win in his last effort and has finished in the money in both stakes starts. He can do it from the lead or from off the pace. His only concern here, the 8 box.

This race is going to be a know down drag out affair that might be decided by a photo finish. I expect Rs Libby Lu and Kiowa Kind Gel to both come out running in this effort. These two should be clear of the rest as they head to the turn and it could turn into a quite a battle on the lead. Stalking close behind will be La's Anthony, from his best box, and then the rest of the field. By the far turn Anthony will be rolling and things will start to get interesting. As they turn for home, Kind Gel starts to fade, Libby holds strong, Anthony will be closing, and a new player comes into the mix and his name is Blaze N Ray. Four greyhounds, all out, all competing for the win. This finish should be tremendous. I like Libby to hold on, Anthony just missing in place with Blaze N Ray just off in third as Kiowa Kind Gel holds on for a spot in the super. (3-1-8-7)

Capping off the stakes rounds, and the evening, the 15th and final race is a speed duel.

1. Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) has loads of early speed and showed that off in the 1st round of the stakes with a win. Here posted up in the one box, with no speed around, she has a shot to pull off another win in this effort. Especially with some early room from the 2 dog.

2. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) will have to try and make due from an inside post once again in this effort. She is looking for her 3rd stakes final in a row, but needs to collect a big lump sum of points in this race if she wants to get there. Breaking well would go a long way in helping her tonight.

3. Fth Keystone Cop (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) looked like a former stakes winner in round 2 of the stakes and that was mainly because his break returned. When he can come out fast, he has a good chance at getting into the money and from an advantageous post in this race, he might get it done in back to back efforts.

4. Ctw Anti Gravity (Maryville Rumble* - Greys Gravity) runs his best from the inside part of the racetrack and I just don't know if the 4 box is close enough to the rail in order for him to show up in this effort. If he does decide to break, he should be able to get a piece of this pie at the wire.

5. Sassy Gloria (Fuzzys Cannon - Sassy Nan) has finished close in both of the stakes rounds so far but has been shut out of the winner's circle on both occasions. Tonight the tough 5 box may give her troubles as she tries to get to the inside part of the racetrack. Winning might be a stretch, but factoring is not!

6. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) made up for a missed break in round one, with a dominated and qualifying best run in round 2. He rushed to the early lead and ran faster than anyone else on the card. He has all the skills and if the lights are back on, he is going to be a force again tonight.

7. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) is probably the best breaker in this field, but like most true early speed greyhounds, he is short at the end of the race. Here he might be able to see the lead again, but I don't know if he can hold on to win like he did in his last effort. Tied for the point lead, he will be a factor throughout in this one.

8. Eds Joy Of Pride (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) is at the top of her game right not as she took home a win in the 1st round, the third in a row for her, and finished in the money in the second. She has great closing speed, but this post is nowhere near the rail. This 8 box will be bothersome at best.

No doubt that the posted up breakers are going to come out running at the start of this race, but I don't think that either Kb's Next Level or Hallo Mr Great can get it done all the way to the wire. WHY? Well, Rays Scout is back and is going to be WAAYYY to close early on to be denied a victory tonight. This greyhound can break fast and can go 660, and in a sprint race that is bad news for a couple of frontrunners in the stretch. I see the battle for place won by Mr Great as he is a little bit more determined without the lead in any race and KB's Next Level holds on for a game show. Sassy Gloria is the other greyhound to pay attention to in this effort. She has not missed the trifecta in 6 races in a row and is just waiting to pull out that whooping stick. She is as fast as anyone in this race and could also get it done from off the pace too. Sleeper alert, pat attention to her in this effort. (6-7-1-5)

DQ Flips the Script in 2nd Round

If you follow our circuit then you know it was only a matter of time before the DQ Williams Kennel got rolling in the stakes rounds, and the second round of the stakes was there time to shine in the spotlight.

The DQ Williams Kennel took over for the Lester Raines Kennel in this round as they posted up wins in 3 of the 7 qualifying rounds. What was nice for them was it was a good mix of the old and the new. Two former finalists in this very same race and a puppy who has really started to show some superior late drive.

The most impressive effort for them came in the 12th race as 2008 finalist, Blaze N Ray, broke from his favorite post position and was way too close too early on. Ray was stalking by the backside and drove thru the far turn to steal away the lead. He continued all the way to the wire and left the field in his wake, 5 and a half lengths behind him.

The newcomer of the trio backed up a close second place finish in round one with a determined stretch run win in round two. She ran a huge race from behind as she weaved her way thru traffic and gave everything she at the finish line to take home the win by a neck.

The only returning finalist in the field also proved that he still has what it takes to win a race. La's Anthony hit the mark from the 8 box and took instant control of the 4th race. He never looked back at any point in this race and coasted on the lead all the way to the wire for the easy victory.

The O'Donnell Kennel had another successful run thru the qualifying rounds. Winning 2 of the 7 races, just like they did in the 1st round, on the front end.

The big race for them came in the 5th race as Hallo Mr Great rushed to the early lead and held on at the finish line for the slim win. This time out he was not denied the victory in the stretch and along with that second place effort, he is now tied for the lead in points for this event with Lady Avery.

Kiowa Fly Remi didn't disappoint either as she put on the longshot hat in the 9th race on the card. As the box came open, she exploded to the early lead and stole enough early on to last all the way to the wire for the victory.

The other two winners were greyhounds that everyone expected to be undefeated heading into the third round. Ok, so they might not have had such great trips in round 1, but they did make up for it in round 2.

Rs Libby Lu looked like her old self in this effort. She broke from the 5 box in the 10th race and make the most of the empty box next to her. She was instantly in command of the race and even though she was hard pressed throughout, she showed once again what heart can get you, A WIN!

Rays Scout was the remaining winner in the 11th race on the card. He too found his break, was close early, and drew away from the field throughout for the easy victory. Scout's trip was the fastest of the second round as he made amends for his subpar performance in round 1.

The Lester Raines Kennel completed the swap with DQ in this second round of qualifying by not winning any races, but still finishing in the money in 4 of the 6 races that they were entered into.

Last but not least, let's not forget about Eds Joy Of Pride. He was the only winner in the first round to finish in the trifecta in the second round. He closed well throughout and was just a length off at the finish line. Don't forget about him either in the next rounds.

Congratualtion to the Orange Park All-Americans

The Orange Park Kennel Club is proud to announce that two of our fantastic athletes have been named to the 2009 AGTOA All-American Team.

For the second year in a row the best distance greyhound at the racetrack has received top honors. Penny Candy (Stan's Boy Flyer - Majestic Angle) was well deserving of the award as she put up a fantastic run 2009, despite being sidelined late in the year.

Dominate would be a good way to sum up just how she was running at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Penny started off in fine fashion by winning the 2009 Orange Park Derby and continued on her success by taking home the win in the 2009 James J Patton Marathon.

In her 10 stakes starts on the year Penny won 9 of those efforts, including an undefeated run thru the marathon stakes as she blew away the field in the finals and won by an impressive 7 lengths.

Penny's record for 2009 was 39 starts, 25 wins, 3 places, 5 shows, and 3 fourth place finishes, or 36 out of 39 in the money. She had win streaks of 3 or more races on 5 different occasions and is currently sitting with 76 career victories.

Congratulation head out, for the second year in a row, to DQ and Sharon Williams, trainer David Helton, the DQ Williams Kennel, and everyone else connected with this stupendous greyhound. Penny is in a class all by herself and if you are looking for the definition of the word heart, this little girl sums it up.

The best sprinter at the racetrack also received honors as Count Ivan (Kiowa Sweet Trey - M's Countess Amy) was named to the 2009 AGOTA All-American Second Team.

Ivan started off the year as hot as any greyhound running. Ivan posted up wins in 16 of his first 19 starts in 2009 and that included a win streak of 11 races in a row.

He parlayed that into the Jacksonville Sprint Classic and took home the title. Continuing to impress, Ivan, won 3 of the 4 rounds in the Sunshine State Silver Cup and made the finals. Bad luck followed him there though as he fell in the 1st turn.

In 2009 Ivan won 7 of his 10 stakes starts and posted up yearly totals of 41 starts, 19 wins, 6 places, 5 shows, and 2 four place finishes, or 32 of 41 in the money. For his career count Ivan has won over 50 races.

Congratulation go out to owner Henry Howe, Bill and Cathie Lambert, Chris Coach Grieb, trainer Tom Artzer, the B & J Racing Kennels, and everyone else connected with this fantastic greyhound. Ivan the terrible earned his name in 2009 on the lead. Once he was there, the race was over and it was a TERRIBLE place for the rest of the field to be.

Round 2 - 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic

Monday - 3/22/2010

The second round of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic gets underway tonight at the Orange Park Kennel Club. The Lester Raines Kennel was the big winner in round one with three wins in the seven races on the card. The O'Donnell Kennel was next best with two wins and the DQ Williams Kennel is looking to get their first win in this stakes after running in the money in six of the seven efforts.

Loads of talent weave their way thru the second round races and with a couple of races without a first round winner in it, we will see some other greyhound add their names to the winning category tonight.

First up on the card is the wide open 4th race.

1. Gm's Dale (Deerfield Site* - Steffie's Charm) is having a rough go of it as of late, but he is hoping that the one box turns around his luck in this one. His last time out from this box, he posted up a win.

2. Sassy Gloria (Fuzzys Cannon - Sassy Nan) just missed in the 1st round of the stakes and from another advantageous post in this race, she is looking to get back to winning in this effort. We'll see.

3. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) finally woke back up over 550 in her last start and looks to be figuring it all out again as she tries for her 3rd stakes final in a row. Here she needs to overcome the post to be effective.

4. Gabe Candice (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) is much better suited for the 660 yard course and seems to be getting left a bit too far behind early on over 550. If she wants a chance, she needs to come out closer in this race.

5. Kiowa Vinita (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a good rushed that has some close to her at the end of the race. She found trouble in the 1st round and needs to rebound in this effort. It could be tough though, especially from the 5 box.

6. Fth Chinook Wind (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) did make up some ground in his first round race, but it was only good enough for 4th. Here he needs to come out close and gain some more points if he wants to continue on in the stakes.

7. Kiowa Smedley (Dodgem By Design - Kiowa Heavenly) was in a world of hurt in the 1st round and needs to stay clear tonight to get back into the mix. If he gets loose, no one in this race is faster than him on the lead.

8. La's Anthony (Dustin The Way - La's Felisha) was a threat throughout in the 1st round and hopes that he can be again in this race. He is the only returning finalist to this stakes and with a big break he could help his chances of getting there once again.

Post position plays a key role in this race tonight. Sassy Gloria gets where she wants to be on the racetrack, the rail, and gets room early on as the wide running GS Ashlynn is right next door in the 3 box. Clearing closer to the front in this race, there is no big early speed burner here, she should prove unstoppable in this effort. Here kennelmate La's Anthony gets a nice draw too. I know he would rather be on the rail, but from this post he does break well and that could be all he needs in this effort to challenge for the win. The aforementioned Gs Ashlynn has proved that she is a stakes caliber greyhound at any distance and despite the tough post, will make the most of her effort tonight. Over 550 she can close and will be coming on strong for sure in the stretch. Kiowa Smedley you just have to pick, IN CASE! In case he wants to break. In case he clears with no trouble. In case he puts up a near track record time on the lead. In case he finds a way to the money. Forget the lines, just don't forget about him in your wagers. (2-8-3-7)

The second of the sevens takes rounds comes your way in the 5th race on the card.

1. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) just missed in the first round and dare I say, got run down from behind. This closer was in the 2009 Orange Park Derby Final. If he gets the front again, don't expect the same.

2. Ctw Anti Gravity (Maryville Rumble* - Greys Gravity) loves the rail and finally gets back close to it in this effort. His first round race was a disaster. No break, or rush, and in a world of hurt at the 1st turn. Tonight in this effort, we expect better.

3. Cayenne Ferrari (Dodgem By Design - Cayenne Jet) is much like Anti Gravity in this race. Likes the rail, gets closer in this race, and should find some form after a couple of rough trips. If he gets a lane, he could be dangerous late.

4. Kiowa Stan Cay (Flying Hydrogen - Flying Monica K) won his last effort from this post and in that race he broke very strongly. After a couple of tough starts, he needs to hit the lid and come out running if he wants to move on in the stakes.

5. Kiowa Unnat (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) is probably better suited for 660 yards and without a warm up start, he was not in contention in round 1. Here he needs to come out closer and find his closing speed before time runs out on him in the stretch.

6. Cjc's Buckshot (Pacific Mile* - Gable Ruth) is a good closer that shows some great ability late in his first round race. Here he is outside again, not where he wants to be, and will have to find a late in order to be effective. If he breaks, he could steal this win.

7. Whistle Bit (Get Over - Lap Baby) is a solid chaser that draws another great post position here in the 7 box. She is as wide as they come and in her last race from here, she posted up a win. A grade B in with grade A's, she will need her best effort tonight.

8. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) is the best breaker in the field and even though he didn't make the lead last time, he still ran tough throughout for 2nd. Here he should be unabated to the lead and prove to be the one to beat.

This race could get UGLY early on. Hallo Mr Great is a tremendous breaker and from an outside post where he can clear early on, he is going to be in command of this effort from the start. He might be a little short at the end of this effort, but he can hung on to win plenty of races against the best the Kennel Club has to offer. Look for him to get back to winning tonight. Challenging him late will be another posted up greyhound, Dirty Picture. This greyhound loves the rail and just missed in the first round from this very same post. All he has to do is be close early and that will give him a chance to get home a winner in this race. Cjc's Buckshot is the best closer in the bunch though and you know he will be coming on fast in the stretch again in this race. Looking to improve on that 4th place effort in round one, B & J will have the veteran ready to go in this one. Whistle Bit might have flash on her side, but she is strong enough to follow the early speed to the turn and hang close for the duration of this race. Winning is a big stretch for this grade B greyhound against this talented field, but finishing in the money is not. (8-1-6-7)

Let's see if the first round winning can roll another 7 in race 7

1. Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) found his break in the 1st round and took home a win. Tonight this streaky greyhound draws his favorite post position and that alone might be enough to insure another win.

2. Bf Dora (Dodgem By Design - Sol Lasting) is posted up much better in this second round race and hopes to avoid all the trouble that she found in her first round effort. She has the skills to run with the big boys, she just needs a chance.

3. Kiowa Trent Tovi (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) picked right up where he left off before heading to 660 yards for the last stakes event. In the 1st round he close well in the stretch and challenged for the win. Tonight from a great post, more of the same.

4. Wp's Clinton (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) needs to find his break. On the lead this greyhound is as tough as nails, but without it he seems to find trouble trying to get to the rail. The 4 box is close, but maybe not close enough.

5. Steel Reserve (Iruska All Star - Gable Pops) ran a huge race in round one as he challenged the leader for the duration and just missed winning it at the finish line. The break was a major part of that effort. Another big break is needed tonight.

6. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) the 2010 Orange Park Derby winner has speed to burn late, that is as long as he can get room. In round one, no room, still closing, and a fourth place finish. I know he can win, let's see if he can.

7. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) needs to be close in order to be effective in this race. Working for her is the post position. She likes to race wide and start out again from the 7 box. Looking to make amends, she needs to step up her effort tonight.

8. Lady Avery (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) is a super strong closer that will be flying up late once again in this effort. She is a long way from her beloved rail in this race and that might be her only downfall. She just missed in round 1, let's see if she can get it done here.

The question of the evening in the 7th race is... Can the early speed steal enough of a lead to hold off the big closers at the finish line??? The answer is.. I think... YES! Kb's Next Level is a whole different greyhound when she starts off from the 1 box. He loves the rail and puts up some tremendous efforts from this starting box. She normally comes out running and currently running with a bit of confidence, I see her surviving on the late lead for the slim win. Coming after here will be a pair of greyhound that can go 660, but are currently in a 550 stakes. Eds Budby and Lady Avery. Both greyhound has great closing speed, but neither of them are where they want to be on the racetrack. Both are going to have to try and find some room to run and whoever does this, will be more successful in the end. Look for both to give there all but come up just short at the finish line. Another closer to consider is Kiowa Trent Tovi. Similar to the others, he too can go 660, but has really run better over the shorter distance. He loves the rail and is close in the 3 box. He finished 2nd in the first round and is building off of that effort. If he can get around close early, he might just be the longshot winner in this race. (1-6-8-3)

More, More, and More in number 4 on the card comes in race number 9.

1. Eds Joy Of Pride (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) is running at the top of her game right now. She has posted up 3 wins in a row, including one in the 1st round. As Budby's sister, she has skills, let's see if she can keep it up.

2. Bleachy Boy (Lonesome Cry - Instant Vintage) is a huge closer that almost always seems to make it into the money at the finish line. He can from 6th in the 1st round to finish 3rd at the wire. Near the rail here in the 2 box, expect a big effort.

3. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) did what she has been doing for quite some time at Orange Park, winning a stakes round qualifier. When the spotlights are on her, she is on and tonight more of the same will take place. Looking for her 3rd stakes final in a row, she will show up.

4. Kiowa Top Design (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) was roughed up in round 1 and needs to get back to breaking and contending in this effort. Midtrack is ok, so the 4 box and the room early should help her out in this effort.

5. Where's Playtime (Dodgem By Design - Uss Agenda) showed off that big time early speed in the 1st round, but she didn't quite see the front and in the stretch she was really, really short. This veteran has the skills to get it done here, she just needs to channel that inner puppy.

6. Sunsands Fannymay (Lonesome Cry - Sunsands Sienna) has been running tough leading up to the stakes rounds and continued that on into the 1st round of the competition. Her good mix of early speed and staying power could be enough to keep her in the money throughout again in this effort.

7. Kiowa Fly Remi (Flying Stanley - Flying Rolling) has not gotten out of the starting box like he wishes that he would have in his last couple of races. He really needs to be close to the early lead in order to be effective and a huge break will be needed in this race if he wants to round in this effort.

8. Fth Chinook Arch (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) didn't fair too well in the 1st round of the stakes, but he did run into trouble in that effort. Here he is outside away from the crowd and will have a better chance to clear on the early lead. He has done it before and could do it again tonight.

In this race it's all about DESIRE! Uss Fine Touch just have more of it than any other greyhound once the stakes rounds start. She can break, she can close, and she can surely win races. Posted up well near the inside part of the racetrack, expect her to show everyone why she is on her way to her third stakes final in a row. Eds Joy Of Pride is on a hot streak of 3 wins in a row and in each she has closed extremely well from off the pace to get it done at the wire. Once again from a great starting box, she will be making up ground throughout and challenging the leader at the finish line. Bleachy Boy is another strong closer that will be picking up ground on the leader in the stretch. He always gets into the money, 13 straight trips, and you will be hard pressed to deny him in this effort. He too likes the rail and the 2 box is close enough for him to be effective. If he gets around early, he might just upset at the finish line. Fth Chinook Arch needs to get a look tonight too, especially from the outside post. He is going to get room early on and with no big time early speed greyhound in this race, he might have an outside shot at the early lead. He is not short up front and if he gets there, he has a shot at the upset in this effort. (3-1-2-8)

Race 10 on the card is going to be a big upfront knockdown drag out battle.

1. Hallo Triple A (Hallo West Acre - Car Bird's Seat) is a streaky runner that loves to start from the inside post positions. Everything is going for him again in this effort. He is off a win and draws the red blanket tonight. Look for another big effort.

2. Pat C Bee Gee (Flying Penske - Pat C Clementine) was not thought of as a threat in the 1st round, but he proved them wrong. He came out close and closed throughout to take home a close 3rd place finish. Posted up in the 2 box again in this effort, you might just see more of the same.

3. Uss West Coast (Lonesome Cry - Uss Mysterious) has to be disappointed in the outcome of the 1st round. He broke well, was in the hunt for the lead at the 1st turn, and ran into a world of trouble. We all know he is short, but expect him to be in front early. Here he is in with the leader of the last race and will need his break to return in order to start off a new win streak.

4. Charmurpantsoff (San Tan Riffraff - Majestic Angle) didn't break very well in the 1st round of the stakes and was outrushed to the 1st turn. He chased the best that he could but was outfinished in the stretch by the strong closing, Eds Budby. Tonight he must come out better in order to contend.

5. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) was the last winner of a stakes sprint at the Kennel Club. She had been a machine since coming back from Wheeling, but in the 1st round she was bumped twice and was outrushed to the early lead. We know her skill set, she needs to find them again here.

6. Sweet Babboo (Dodgem By Design - Rooftop Sara) might be in a bit over her head against these talented fields, especially if she keeps breaking like she has been. She is all about the early rush and she has not seen it in her last 4 races in a row. This is a must break situation for her.

7. Mlb Bryce (Dodgem By Design - Milo Kynlee) really excels from the inside post positions and gets stuck outside for the second race in a row. He will have trouble getting in there, especially if he sits in the box once again in this effort. His only hope here is to come out running.

8. Wp's Commodore (Fuzzys Cannon - Ma's Countess Amy) shares the same need as several greyhounds in this race, he needs to find a way to break tonight. He loves this post, and won last time out from here, but if he is not close early on he has no chance to challenge for the win tonight.

Time for the real stakes winner to step up. It's time for Rs Libby Lu to show everyone that the last one was not a fluke. It's time to break out on top in this effort and keep up the pace all the way to the wire for the win. The empty box next to her gets her room to rush and once in front, she takes care of the rest. She will be hard pressed throughout, but she proves best once again tonight. Challenging her early and often will be the well posted Hallo Triple A and Uss West Coast. Both greyhound have good early foot of their own and each can win races on the lead. The advantage of the chasers will go to Triple A though as he is not short in the stretch like West Coast is. Everyone still better keep an eye out for Wp's Commodore too. He won last time out from this post and he too can break on occasion. He is a bit of a longer shot than the rest, but that 30.57 second romp is looming just 2 races back. Tonight if they all decide to come out running, it could be quite interesting not only at the turn but all the way to the finish line. (5-1-3-8)

The fun continues on in the 11th race on the card with the hottest greyhound going at the racetrack.
1. Kiowa Shag Along (Flying Stanley - Kiowa Shag Sue) is a rail running, early speed monster, that gets the rail for the second straight race. She was a threat throughout in the 1st round of the stakes and will be around the lead to the wire once again tonight.
2. Pru Whistler (Craigie Whistler - Rambo For A Win) gets back near the rail in this effort and that will aide her greatly tonight. She is a superb closer and has already won a stakes race at the Orange Park Kennel Club. The 2 box is all she needs to be effective here.

3. Pat C Tremor (Trent Lee - Pat C Aida) has some late speed but didn't get a chance to show it off in the 1st round of the stakes. He ran into trouble and couldn't overcome it. Here he needs a clear lane to rush in early if he is going to be close enough to challenge late.

4. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) didn't give his best effort in the 1st round of the stakes. He was hampered a bit at the turn, but still should have closed better at the end. Here he needs to rebound if he wants to make yet another stakes final.

5. Cayenne Carmagea (Dodgem By Design - Cayenne Jet) runs much better from the rail post positions and has to make due for the third race in a row from a tough starting box. She can overcome the post if she breaks fast, is she up for the task? We will see.

6. Hanks Diana (Lonesome Cry - Dolly Madison) had won 3 races in a row heading into the 1st round, but her 1st round effort was a tough one. She missed her break, rushed up well, and was hammered at the 1st turn. This early speeder had no chance to recover. Tonight it's time to make up for it.

7. Fay's Mcqueen (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) is clearly the one to beat in this effort. He is riding high on a 4 race win streak and has shown some tremendous rush to the 1st turn and control of his races. He is way tough in front, this field better not let him get there if they want to win.

8. Eds Mark Time (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) is a strong closer that can come on with the best of them late in any race over 550 yards. He was just off in place in the 1st round and looks to keep up the good work in this race. The post is really the only question mark in his effort tonight.

Tough to pick against a greyhound that has been money in 4 efforts in a row, so I WON'T! I like Fay's Mcqueen to take home yet another win in this race. No one has been able to beat him to the lead at the turn as of late and that is where he is going to win this race once again. He will be short a bit with some talented greyhounds trying to run him down late, but he will have enough left to get it done at the wire. Pru Whistler has the best chance at the upset in this effort. She can overcome any trouble that she may encounter with all of her late speed and the post is to die for. She loves it on the rail and will make the most of the post in this effort. Rays Scout needs to get back on track here and I expect him to do just that. He finished 3rd in the Orange Park Derby and since moving back to sprints before the stakes he had won 4 races in a row, finished in the quiniela in 6 of 7 races, and never missed the money. He will come out better in this effort and prove a threat throughout this effort. Eds Mark Time is another strong closer that will be making up ground throughout tonight. Winning might be a stretch for this greyhound, but if he follows the 7 to the turn, you never know. (7-2-4-8)

Capping off the stakes race for the evening card, the 12 race will be highly competitive.

1. Blaze N Ray (Craigie Whistler - Rayvan) has really returned to the form that saw him make the finals of this race in 2008. He is a little longer in the tooth now, but the closing ability is still here and so is the desire to win. From his favorite post, he will be tough tonight.

2. Kiowa Trent Tam (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) is back over 550 yards after trying out 660 for the stakes and is rounding back into form. Two middle posts have not helped, but tonight he is back nearer the rail and his effort should improve too. If he gets loose he could be dangerous here.

3. Kiowa Kind Gel (Flying Penske - Kiowa Oneofakind) has tons of early speed and wins most of her races on the front end. Like most true early speed greyhounds, she pays for it in the stretch and can be short at the finish line. Last time out a solid 3rd, expect for her to be around the pace for the duration again tonight.

4. Gs Tank (Craigie Whistler - Gm's Peachykeen) has had a couple of rough trips in a row, but before that he had been running really tough. The key to his success is his break as well and he needs it to return in order to be in the mix throughout in this effort. Does it return to him tonight? Wait and see.

5. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) returned to a stakes race and returned to winning. He was the point leader in the 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile and seems to have righted the ship at the right time. Breaking again he has proven tough and if he gets the front here, it could be back to back jacks.

6. Fth Keystone Cop (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) was the winner of the 2009 JGR Puppy Stake and finished 3rd in the 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup. Loads of talent are on his side, but he needs to get the consistency back. If he breaks he still can steal a win, but will that be tonight or not?

7. Lrc Last Dance (Late Late Show - Hot Cargo) missed the break and was outrushed early in the 1st round. She did try to rally late, but ran into trouble in the far turn. Here she needs to make up for that effort with a strong performance. Breaking well will be the key to her success in this race.

8. Kiowa Gooddesign (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) took advantage of the 1 box in the 1st round of the stakes. He bolted to the early lead and held tough all the way to the wire for the win. Here the 8 box might give him the same opportunity. It is there for the taking, all he has to do is hit the lid once again.

No matter who makes the early lead in this race, I think it is Blaze N Ray's too loose. He just has too much going for him in this effort. He loves the rail and normally breaks really well from this post position. Case in point, just look back 6 races ago. He went box to wire from the 1 box in 30.36 seconds. No one here has even run close to that kind of time as of late. I know he won't be in front early on, but at the wire he will be. Dueling it out for most of this effort should be the Kiowa Duo. Kind Gel and Gooddesign both have loads of early speed and I expect both of them to show up in this effort. Advantage to Kind Gel as she is a bit faster from the box, but Gooddesign has better staying power. Play them just off either way you like them as neither will be able to steal enough to hold off Ray before the finish line. Let's not forget about Fth Keystone Cop either. This is a stakes winner and multi-stakes finalist that can put up some impressive efforts when he wants to. This is not the best post, but if he breaks it won't matter. If he wants to continue on in the stakes, he must show up in this effort.

Remember in the third round the field will be cut down to 4 races of greyhounds and only the best of the best will be moving on. All the heart pounding action takes place on Friday March 26th at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Raines Rules in 1st Round

The Lester Raines Kennel was up to the task and then some in the 1st round of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic. Winning 3 of the 7 stakes events on the card, they were the top kennel for the evening and started it off with a flurry. They posted up victories in the first three stakes events on the card and finished a close third in another race. All in all a great evening for them.

Looking most impressive for them in the 9th race was the greyhound who is looking to run in her 3rd stakes final in a row, Uss Fine Touch. She had run a couple of rough trips prior to the stakes but when the lights came on, so did she. Rushing to early control she was never in doubt as she dominated on the lead and drew away for fun in the stretch to coast to a 4 length victory.

Fay's Mcqueen didn't drop the ball either in the 10th race as she outrushed Rs Libby Lu to the lead and stole enough early on to hold off the late charge by Lady Avery for the victory. This greyhound is peaking at the right time and this was his fourth win in a row. If he keeps it up, he is going to go a long way in this stakes race.

Kb's Next Level also stepped up to the plate and hit one out of the park. Using her early speed to her advantage, she put up too many lengths early on for the closer to get to her before the finish line. Try as she might, Sassy Gloria, just couldn't get home a winner. Next Level lived up to her name in this effort and chalked up another stakes win to her career totals.

The O'Donnell Kennel was the other big winner on the evening. They took home 2 wins in the 7 races and both came by the way of strong front running efforts by some talented greyhounds.

In the 11th race Kiowa Gooddesign got back to breaking and leading a race here at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Ok, so he was shorting up in the stretch, but they didn't get to him before the finish line and that is all the counts. By half a length or by a hundred, a win is a win is a win.

Hallo Triple A makes the most of the post in the 15th and final race on the card. He loves the rail and broke sharply from the inside 2 box and took command of this effort from the get go. He was never in question and breezed home for the easy win in the nightcap.

The fastest effort on the card came from the resurging Gm's Cashman. Cashman, who was the leader in points for the 2009 JGR Juvenile, has seen a resurgence over the last month or so and now looks to be back in the form that saw him make a stakes final. In the 14th race he burst from the box to the early lead and proved tough on top all the way to the finish line for the upset victory.

Speaking of a greyhound was not supposed to win and did, Eds Joy Of Pride took home the win in the 12th race on the card. Joy is the sister to Eds Budby, winner of the 2010 Orange Park Derby, and she looks to be making a name for herself over the shorter 550 yard course. She too is peaking at the right time, including this race she has won 3 races in a row and has proved unrelenting in the stretch. This is turning out to be a deep litter and showing off the strengths of Domingo Dodge as a sire.

Another notable to mention would have to be the DQ Williams Kennel. In know they didn't win a race in the 1st round, which is odd in itself, but several of their entries finished close in their respective races. In the 7 stakes rounds, DQ had a greyhound in the money in 6 of those efforts.

Sassy Gloria was 2nd, Blaze N Ray was 3rd, Lady Avery was 2nd, Dirty Picture was 2nd, La's Anthony (the only returning finalists) was 3rd, and Bleachy Boy was 3rd.

Several of these greyhound have stakes experience behind them and should run better in the next round. Keep your eye out for them as the stakes continues on.

Round 1 of the 2010 Jacksonville Juvenile

Friday - 3/19/2010

The best time of the year is upon us once again at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Yep, that's right, IT'S STAKES RACING TIME!

The best of the best over the 550 course will be vying for a shot at the finals and the coveted title of champion in the 2010 edition of the Jacksonville Sprint Classic.

Several big times names are here ready to compete. We have former stakes winners, several stakes finalists, and even a retuning greyhound trying for the finals for the second year in a row.

So let's get into the meat of the seven great races for this Friday Evening, March 19th, at the Orange Park Kennel Club in the 1st round of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic.

Race 7 is the first on the card.

1. Sassy Gloria (Fuzzys Cannon - Sassy Nan) loves this post position and should get room early as the 2 dogs heads wide. She might not be in the early lead, but in the stretch you better watch out.

2. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) is back trying for her 3rd straight stakes final. Now over 550 again she needs to get accustom to the distance. Post position is a hindrance in this effort.

3. Wp's Clinton (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) is the half brother to last year's winner, Count Ivan. (Same Mom) He too has loads of speed and drive, but needs to find his break again in order to contend.

4. Kiowa Trent Tam (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) is back over 550 again to try at another stakes event. She has enough late speed to be dangerous, but needs to get clear run from a middle post here.

5. Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) finished 3rd in the 2009 Puppy Stakes and has the best early speed of the bunch tonight. If she decides to break, she will be on the lead, but can she hold it? That is the question.

6. Kiowa Vinita (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a solid grade A competitor that has some late speed at her disposable in every occasion. She can run from either outside or inside, and should factor again at the finish line tonight.

7. Gabe Candice (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) is more suited for the 660 yard course and will have to make due over the shorter distance. Closing will not be a problem, but it may be too late for her to contend.

8. Bf Dora (Dodgem By Design - Sol Lasting) is coming into this race hot off a win in her last effort. She is a solid breaker and has enough late to hold her own in the stretch. If she can get some help here, she might have a shot at the money.

This race will be all about the break. At the start Gs Ashlynn is going to move wide early and give Sassy Gloria all the room she needs on the rail to be stalking early leader, Kb's Next Level, way too early. Chasing will be Gloria's forte as she gets closer and closer and finally drives by late for the victory. Next Level gives her all, but comes up just short of her goal in place. Kiowa Vinita will be making up ground throughout and challenge the leaders at the finish line. Another one I think might factor is Wp's Clinton. I have seen big efforts from this greyhound, but he just hasn't been breaking as of late. If he can come out fast, he might just have a shot to upset in this effort. (1-5-6-3)

The second stakes event on the card comes in race 9.

1. Lrc Last Dance (Late Late Show - Hot Cargo) gets a great post position to start off her stakes career. She is not a breaker, but a rusher, so she needs a clean lane to the turn in order to be effective. The one box just might give that to her in this effort.

2. Gs Tank (Craigie Whistler - Gm's Peachykeen) has been running tough in grade A and it has everything to do with his break. Coming out fast has really upped his in the money percentage. If he hits it again tonight, he will be in the mix for sure.

3. Blaze N Ray (Craigie Whistler - Rayvan) was a finalist in the 2008 Sprint Classic and is back to try and show them an old dog might have some new tricks. His closing power has returned and from a good inside post, she should be late threat in this one.

4. Fth Keystone Cop (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) is a multi-stakes finalist and puppy stakes winner. He has loads of experience in these races and if he keeps breaking like he has been, he is going to go a long way once again in this stakes. With back to back wins, he is the one to beat.

5. Kiowa Unnat (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) is jumping right into the thick of things straight from 6 efforts in a row over 660 yards. The adjustment might be too tough to handle against this talented field, and the 5 box is not helping either. This could be a long night for him.

6. Sunsand Fannymay (Lonesome Cry - Sunsands Sienna) has been running well with 5 efforts in a row in the money, but this is grade A and the competition at this level is a bit different. If she wants to be successful, she needs to come out running tonight.

7. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) is an all out ankle burner that needs to be in the lead in order to win a race and sometimes that doesn't even get it done. As the only other big breaker in this field, he has a good shot at finishing in the thick of things tonight.

8. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) is looking for her third stakes race final in a row and if she is going to make it, she needs to wake up. She is better than her last couple of efforts shows and this post might just help her get back on track.

As the box comes open this race is going to be a battle. Both Fth Keystone Cop and Hallo Mr Great should be up to the task tonight, as they duel from the box to the wire for the win. Slight edge to the back to back winner, Keystone Cop, as he is a bit stronger in the stretch and might even be able to get past Mr Great in the stretch if he has too. All in all a great battle. Closing on both of them will be Blaze N Ray. He is close enough to the rail to be effective in this race and has regained his chops as of late. Also look for Uss Fine Touch. With a 2nd in the Puppy Stakes and a 4th in the Orange Park Derby, she has proven that she can hang with the best of the best at the racetrack. If she decides to run and gets loose early on, she could steal away the win in this effort. (4-7-3-8)

The third stakes race on the card runs in race 10.

1. Kiowa Shag Along (Flying Stanley - Kiowa Shag Sue) is a good early speed greyhound that needs to be close to the early lead in order to be in contention in any race. The one box is working in her favor and if she gets loose, watch out!

2. Fth Chinook Arch (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) is looking to rebound after a rough trip in his last effort. This even runner pretty much finishes where he starts off a race from, so if he wants to win it here, he needs to come out on the front end.

3. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) would be the only sprint stakes winner in this field. She has great early speed and once in front she is really tough to take down. She has been on fire since returning from wheeling with 7 wins in 9 races. She will be the race time favorite tonight.

4. Pat C Tremor (Trent Lee - Pat C Aida) might not be winning a lot of races, but he has been in the hunt in 5 of his last 6 efforts. His even running style means he must be close early on, so he need to follow Libby Lu to the turn tonight if he wants to contend.

5. Fay's Mcqueen (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) is another big time early speed greyhound that has been tearing up the racetrack. With 3 wins in a row, and 6 efforts in the trifecta, he is a formidable foe, but he must continue to break if he wants a chance. The 5 box could be a detriment tonight.

6. Lady Avery (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) is a big time closer over 550 from the DQ Williams Kennel. This greyhound is a long way from her beloved rail in this effort and will need some help to get there tonight. Closing up late will not be an issue, but challenging for the win might be a bit too much to ask.

7. Mlb Bryce (Dodgem By Design - Milo Kynlee) is all rail all the time and will have to really work to get there from the 7 box in this race. If he breaks he might have a better chance, but with all the early speed around him, he still might be in trouble. This might be a tough race for him tonight.

8. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has really come back to 550 with a flourish. Winning 4 of 7 race and finishing in the superfecta in all of them, he has proven that his 3rd place finish in the Orange Park Derby was no fluke. The 8 box is not the rail, but if he comes out quickly, he has a chance to win here.

Big battle time in this effort as three very talented greyhounds should be in close proximity for the majority of this race. Rs Libby Lu should bomb to the early lead, but she will be pressed throughout by the quick breaking Fay's Mcqueen and Rays Scout. I think she can steal enough of a lead early, especially from a favorable post, to last at the wire for the win. Mcqueen in second just behind and closing up with every step in third will be Rays Scout. Completing the superfecta will be the other best closer in this field, Lady Avery. She overcomes any trouble that comes her way and beats out the rest in the stretch for the final spot in the cash a the wire. (3-8-5-6)

Race 11 will be the 4th stakes event on the card.

1. Kiowa Gooddesign (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) is a big time early speed greyhound in his best box. He loves it on the rail and has won back to back races from here. Tonight could be another.

2. Steel Reserve (Iruska All Star - Gable Pops) might be a bit over his head in this race, but has shown some good speed in the past and looks to return to the form that saw him get into grade A. He will need a big break and a big effort to find the cash tonight.

3. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) doesn't care about the distance. This Orange Park Derby Champ, smoked a personal best in his last race over 550 yards. He is on the tippy top of his game now and looks to be a force in this race as well.

4. Kiowa Smedley (Dodgem By Design - Kiowa Heavenly) has been closing well as of late, but just can't seem to get close early enough to win some more races. The 4 box is close to the rail, but I fear not close enough for him to break out of the funk. On the lead, he is money, but can he get there?

5. Wp's Commodore (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) is another half sibling to Count Ivan, and in 3 of his last 6 races he has looked like it. In all of those wins he has made the lead at the 1st turn and will need to do so again in this race if he wants a chance. Without the lead, he can be suspect at times.

6. Pru Whistler (Craigie Whistler - Rambo For A Win) only drawback in this race is the post position. This Night of Stars winner, is all rail all the time and this is the 6 box. She has tremendous closing ability and with 6 efforts in a row in the trifecta, you know she will be around late again tonight.

7. Charmurpantsoff (San Tan Riffraff - Majestic Angle) is much better than his lines show, and if his break returns to him, he could challenge for the win in this effort. He has been in a funk and needs to break out of it and the outside might just help him, especially with the dog next door heading to the rail early on.

8. Kiowa Kind Gel (Flying Penske - Kiowa Oneofakind) is the other big time early speeder in this race and might just steal away the lead from everyone at the break. With 3 wins in 5 races and all of them in the trifecta, she is hot, hot, hot. Look for it to continue on once again in this effort.

At the break there is going to be a big battle for the early lead in this effort. The Kiowa duo, Gooddesign and Kind Gel, both have great post positions and either of them could make the front in this effort. Slight advantage to Gooddesign though as he is not quite as short late as Kind Gel is, but really it doesn't matter as the best closer in this field is going to win. Eds Budby has proved all his doubters wrong in his last race with a superb victory. He doesn't need to be in front early, just in front at the wire and that is what he is going to do. Look for another statement race tonight. The other closer she be watched out for even though she is not in the best starting box. Pru Whistler is a stakes winner and knows how to come on with the best of them in the stretch. She will do whatever she needs to do to get to the rail tonight, and will challenge the leaders at the finish line for sure. (3-1-6-8)

Keeping the drive alive for race number five, we take a look at the 12 race on the card.

1. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) is a solid grade A competitor that always seems to be around at the finish line. A strong closer from an advantageous post position, everyone better keep an eye out for him late in race.

2. Pat C Bee Gee (Flying Penske - Pat C Clementine) is looking to rebound in this race after a couple to rough trips in a row. The post will go a long way to help him out tonight and if gets around close, he will be in the mix at the finish line.

3. Eds Joy Of Pride (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) is Budby's sister and seems to be coming into her own at the right time. She has won back to back races and has come flying in all of her last 6 races. She likes the post and hopes to keep the dream alive in this one.

4. Gm's Dale (Deerfield Site* - Steffie's Charm) has some good early speed and will need to find it once again in this race if he is going to stand a chance to challenge. Let's see if he is up to the task tonight.

5. Ctw Anti Gravity (Maryville Rumble* - Greys Gravity) comes into the stakes on a high note as she won her last race in grade A. The 5 box is right next door to her 6 box win, but if she wants to get back to back jacks, she needs to come out running from the start.

6. Kiowa Stan Cay (Flying Hydrogen - Flying Monica K) has not so much recent success in grade A, but has won her last 2 races in grade B to get back to A. She has broken well in both of those starts and will have to again if she wants to factor. An even runner, she should finish where she starts tonight.

7. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) must be close early on in order to be effective in this race. She has some good early speed and when the mood suits her, she can bring it with the best of them. The only question is, does she feel like it tonight, or not?

8. Cjc's Buckshot (Pacific Mile* - Gable Ruth) is a stakes finalist that can bring it with the best of them in the stretch. The rough spot for him in this effort is the post position. He likes to race on the rail and will have his hands full from the outside tonight. If he can break, or clear early, he will be a force here.

This race is pretty much evenly matched and could turn out a ton of different ways. So with that being said, I strike while the irons hot! Ctw Anti Gravity gets room early on with the empty post, breaks out fast, takes over the lead, and comes home to win back to back races. Challenging her late will be the best 3 closers in the race. The red hot Eds Joy Of Pride, Dirty Picture, and Cjc's Buckshot. Any of the three closers could steal away the win if they get closer enough early on and if someone else bombs from the box, maybe then steal one on the lead. In this race, you never know. (5-3-1-8)

Race 14 for Friday evening is the 6th stakes race on the card.

1. La's Anthony (Dustin The Way - La's Felisha) is the only returning finalist from last year's race. He has the experience factor on this entire field and from his favor post position, he is going to be tough to beat in this effort.

2. Eds Mark Time (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) is another Crowe kennel greyhound showing good form at the right time heading into the stakes rounds. Posted up in a good spot, he should be a strong force once again in this race, that is if he can get around close enough early on.

3. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) was the point leader in the 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile and finally he has started to get back into that form. He has all the skills to take home the victory in this effort, he just needs to seize the opportunity that is in front of him.

4. Sweet Babboo (Dodgem By Design - Rooftop Sara) hopes that she can get back on track in this effort. She has not been breaking well and in turn she has been getting into trouble and finishing out of the money. Her only hope tonight is to come out fast in this one.

5. Kiowa Fly Remi (Flying Stanley - Flying Rolling) is all about the early speed and pays for it on occasion at the end of the race. He is short, short, short coming home and will need a big early lead if he wants to steal one away from the rest of the crowd tonight.

6. Cayenne Ferrari (Dodgem By Design - Cayenne Jet) is back in grade A and will need every ounce of that closing speed again tonight if she wants to factor at the wire with the leaders. It would be nice if she had the rail, but she will have to make due from the outside. Winning might be a stretch, but she has a shot at the money in this here.

7. Fth Chinook Wind (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) is a tough competitor as long as he is close in the early stages of the race. If he is too far behind early on, he doesn't have the desire that he does in other races. Here he needs to be close from a post that really is not to his liking. If he wants to go, pay attention.

8. Kiowa Top Design (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) runs better on the front end, but can close from off the pace on occasion to challenge for the win in the stretch. Here away from the bunch to the inside, he might just get loose early and put on a show. But if not, he still should be close enough to contend.

In my opinion this race is La's Anthony's to lose. I know all the things that people will say. He has not looked all that sharp. He has not had enough starts back. He is too old. Yadda, Yadda, Yadda. True, but this is the one box and he is wearing the RED blanket. He is a machine from this post and with no speed directly in his face, he should be out and gone early on for the win. By the way the next closest fastest time in the field to his 30.22 clocking is 4 lengths behind him at 30.51. Trying to hang around will be the inside chasers and closers. Eds Mark Time will be gaining ground throughout this race, just not on the leader. He should be good enough for place as Gm's Cashman stalks in a solid place in the trifecta for the duration of this event. Let's not forget the 8 box either. Kiowa Top Design might be the best chance at an upset, that is if he can fire to the lead from the outside, otherwise he hangs throughout in the super. (1-2-3-8)

Capping off the 7 stakes races, it's the final event on the card, race 15.

1. Kiowa Trent Tovi (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) is back over 550 and draws his best box here on the rail in the 1st round of the stakes. Expect more from him that he showed in his last race tonight. If he gets loose early, he will challenge for the win tonight.

2. Hallo Triple A (Hallo West Acre - Car Bird's Seat) is a hot and cold running greyhound that can get streak and put up some impressive efforts in a row. Recently the water has been luke warm, but that doesn't mean that it can't change in this effort, especially from a good post position.

3. Hanks Diana (Lonesome Cry - Dolly Madison) has come back on a mission and has won 3 races in a row from the front end. She has great early speed and will be vying for the front end again in this race. If she makes it there, she might be very tough to take down before the wire.

4. Where's Playtime (Dodgem By Design - Uss Agenda) used to be an early speed monster, but she seems to have lost a step or two over the last couple of months. She can still pop the lid on occasion and steal enough early to win a race, but against this field that mountain might be too tall to climb.

5. Bleachy Boy (Lonesome Cry - Instant Vintage) can gain on anyone at anytime over 550 yards and on occasion he gets up for the win at the wire too. But what else would you expect a DQ dog to do? LOL! Post might seem like a problem, but he won last time out from the 5. He could steal another one.

6. Whistle Bit (Get Over - Lap Baby) is a strong closing greyhound that is trying to make her way back to grade A in this effort. Working for her is the post as he like to race on the wide side of the racetrack. If she can get around somewhere in the pack, she might factor in the superfecta.

7. Cayenne Carmagea (Dodgem By Design - Cayenne Jet) runs tough from the inside post positions and feels right at home on the rail, but tonight she will have to make due from the outside and we will have to see what she can do. She has enough early to get close and can hold her own late. A big break is needed here.

8. Uss West Coast (Lonesome Cry - Uss Mysterious) has been on a tear in his last 3 efforts. In each he has bombed to the early lead and held the field at bay for the duration. The lead has gotten shorter in each, but no one has got to him before the wire. Tonight, from a good post, you might just get a 4-peat!

This race could turn into a two greyhound race from the start to the finish. Both Uss West Coast and Hanks Diana have won 3 races in a row and both have come on the front end. Only one greyhound can make the lead here and even if one does, the other might outlast them for the win. Slight edge to West Coast. He has a better initial break and rush and should be able to just edge out Diana to the lead, but late could be another story. Diana is not as short at West Coast is late and that could prove to be a turning point in who wins. Either way you like em, one should get to win 4 in a row. Making up ground throughout on the leaders will be Bleachy Boy. This greyhound has gears the other two wish that they possessed. It is not out of the realm of possibility that he could win this race too. If he can clear close early, no one may be able to stop him before the finish line. Another greyhound to watch out for is Kiowa Trent Tovi. Tovi is back at 550 and gets to start this race from his best box. He too is a strong closer that will come on late to challenge, he just can't get to far back too early or he might not be able to close the distance and contend. Upset minding, don't forget about him in your wagers.

Second round action of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic will take place on Monday Evening March 22nd. All 56 greyhounds will return as they seek additional points for a chance to move on to the finals.

Tri-Super Capped! Forced out Wednesday MATINEE!

The Tri-super for the ORange Park Kennel club is capped at $27,032.29.

The pool will be huge for these races and you need to get in on a part of it.

In the past they have bet over $80,000 into it and that number could grow.

Check out ther 6th and 8th races on the card HERE.

Good luck and good wagering.

Stakes Races Almost HERE!

Friday - 3/12/2010

This weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club we should get a good indication of just what is going to be happening in the upcoming 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic.

Entries for the stakes are due TONIGHT, March 12th, and a list will be posted this weekend on who is in and who is out of the stakes.

We have a couple of routers jumping back to 550, which I would guess would be for the stakes event, including the 2010 Orange Park Derby Champ, Eds Budby.

Loads of talent on tap in our four highlighted races. Stakes entries, finalist, and winners proliferate the fields and it should be yet another great weekend of wagering on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit.

Out first race on the weekend comes in the 15th race on the card for Friday Evening.

1. Hallo Triple A (Hallo West Acre - Cat Bird's Seat) is a tough competitor when he is close to the early lead in any race, and from the rail, he gets close a lot of the time. Forget the last one, watch out here!

2. Gs Wolverine (Craigie Whistler - Gm's Peachykeen) is up a bit in grade in this effort and will have to run at the peak of his abilities to get into the mix in this race. A big break will be needed tonight.

3. Pure Performance (Dodgem By Design - Laveranues) is a big time early speed greyhound that has been solid at the grade A level in 6 races in a row. He is short late, so he needs to hit the lid here.

4. Lover Girl Bambi (Get Over - Dave's Lovergirl) is better suited for 660 or longer yards, but she can hang too over 550. She is a big closer at 550 and will be making up ground for sure in the stretch.

5. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is the favorite to win this race. Since finishing 3rd in the 2010 OPD, he moved back to 550 and has been dominate. With 4 wins in 5 races, even in the 5 box, he's the man.

6. Wp's Hylander (Flying Hydrogen - Fuzzys Kennedy) is back up in grade A in this race, hot off a box to wire win 2 races ago. Getting close early is the key to his success and he will need a good early trip to get into contention in this one.

7. Miss Romy (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) gets yet another 7 box and after some recent success she should be ready for the grade A's once again in this effort. All she needs to do is be around early and her late speed will get her into the mix at the finish.

8. Dance With Me (Get Over - Sugarnooche) is up in grade and a long way from the rail in this effort. Here she needs to stay out of trouble as she moves to the inside part of the racetrack, and frankly I don't know if she can do it or not. This might be a rough trip.

In this one Rays Scout should return to breaking, but I think that Pure Performance will beat him to the turn though. The problem with him is that is he short at the end of the race and will not be able to wire this talented field. He should be able to make it to the far turn on the lead though. Down the stretch Scout is too much for everyone and gets back to winning in this race. Other that will be contending in the stretch should be the best posted duo of the bunch. Hallo Triple A is a monster from the rail and the red blanket is going to go a long way to get him into the mix at the wire. He breaks very well from the inside and that is all he needs to be strong force. Miss Romy is the other greyhound to watch out for. This puppy stakes finalist is finding it and the 7 box is helping. With a win and a second place finish in her last two races from here, expect another strong performance. (5-1-7-3)

Saturday - 3/13/2010

Up next is the 11th race for the matinee on Saturday at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

1. Jamboree Frankie (My John Q - Slingshot Misty) moves back to grade A in this effort hot off a big box to wire win. This only early speed greyhound gets the post nod, but must break quick again today.

2. Mr. Duncan (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) is the question mark of this race. He can hang with the big boys and girls in grade A, but you just never know when he is going to show up. The post helps out, let's see.

3. Uss West Coast (Lonesome Cry - Uss Mysterious) is an all out early speed machine that will be in front at the start of this race, the only question is can he hold on late to win. With 2 in a row, I think maybe.

4. Pat C Fly Out (Fuzzys Cannon - Pat C To N Fro) might be a bit over his head in this race. Even though he is running well, he is 2 grades up and will meet the best at the racetrack in this effort. But you never know?

5. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is one of only 2 solid grade A greyhounds in this field. With 2 wins in 4 starts she will be a factor to steal another win, that's if she can overcome the post.

6. Sassy Gloria (Fuzzys Cannon - Sassy Nan) is a hot and cold running greyhound that has the faucet turned toward the red as of late. Streaking at the right time, this little girl could pull off the upset.

7. Eds Mark Time (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) is a strong closer that just keeps on coming throughout in all of the races that he runs in. Up 2 grades in this race, winning might be a bit of a stretch today.

8. Wp's Clinton (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) has had a couple of rough trips in a row, but looks to rebound in this effort. A long way from the rail, he will need to break well to have a chance.

It's the matinee so speed is going to hold better than it does in the evening time, so let's look for Uss West Coast to get the hat trick in this effort. No one is going to beat him to the lead or the turn in this effort, and once in front he will steal enough early to hold on late for the win. Pressing him for the duration of this race should be the ever present Sassy Gloria, Wp's Clinton, and Kiowa Vanessa. Gloria has the best late speed of this bunch and might be the only one that stands a chance to get to him before the finish line. Clinton will rely on his break to get into contention and if he can get to the rail untouched, he might have a shot to outlast the leader late too in this race. Vanessa is an even runner that will need to have a quick start in order to contend here, but with 2 wins in 4 races, you can't forget about her in this one. (3-6-8-5)

Saturday - 3/13/2010

Back to the final race on the card, the 15th, for Saturday evening with the nightcap speed duel.

1. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) is back over 550 after running in the money in the 2010 Orange Park Derby. He loves the rail and the one box is really going to help him out in this effort. He is an all out force that could win this race.

2. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) also gets a good rail post in this effort and from this 2 box she has won 4 races in a row on the front end. Look for instant control of this race and for her to get back winning.

3. Gabe Candice (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) is a router that is moving back to 550 for probably the stakes race, but at 550 she might just be too late to get a piece of this puzzle. Up in grade this race might be a mountain to climb.

4. See Saw (Dodgem By Design - Festivity*) is running well over the new racetrack and you can forget that last effort. With enough closing speed to be dangerous, watch out for him in the stretch tonight.

5. Kiowa Shamrock (Kiowa Mon Manny - Kiowa Sweet Sue) has had a couple of rough trips in a row and needs to get back breaking in this effort. If she is close early on in any race, she is tough, so a big break will be needed in this effort, especially from the 5 box.

6. Pocket Of Faith (Golddust Memory - Lookbutdonttouch) is a strong closer from DQ that gets a good outside post positions. She has plenty left in the tank in the stretch and will factor with the leaders at the wire.

7. What A Charmer (San Tan Riffraff - Majestic Angle) also ran in the Orange Park Derby and now is back over 550 yards trying to make some noise. At this distance he is all about the close and should be coming from off the pace to challenge again.

8. Bl Punch N Judy (Lonesome Cry - Jr's Mojo) is hot off a win at the top level of competition and even though she is getting back on track, the 8 box could be her demise in this effort. It's a long way to the rail, but if she clears early she might have a shot at stealing away the win.

What a way to cap off the evening. Two multi-final, front running, stakes veterans, facing off from box to wire. Rs Libby Lu in the 2 box and Uss Fine Touch in the 1. Both greyhounds have got what it takes to win this race. Libby on the lead and Touch from just off of it. The difference here is those first few steps. Libby outrushes Tough to the lead and survives late for the SLIM win. Touch gives another thrilling effort, but comes up on the short end of the stick tonight. Closing late to challenge the early leaders will be the DQ duo, Pocket Of Faith and What A Charmer. Winning for either is a stretch at best, but playing them under on your wagers would make MUCH sense in this race. (2-1-7-6)

Sunday - 3/14/2010

Finishing out the weekend we look at the 11th race for Sunday Matinee.

1. Jean's Gypsy (Golddust Memory - Gifted Lex) happens to be a strong closing solid grade A greyhound that just can't seem to get over the hump and win a race. She likes this post and just misses last time out of the 1 box. Today might just be here day to breakthrough.

2. Sweet Babboo (Dodgem By Design - Rooftop Sara) has had some traffic problems in her last couple of starts and looks to remedy that situation in this effort. The post helps out, but a big break would help her even more. Is she up for it? We will see.

3. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) was the point leader in the 2009 Jacksonville Juvenile and had been struggling since. Now he is on the rebound trail and has made it back to grade A. On top of his form again, he is a big threat to take them all down as take home in win in this effort.

4. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) was the winner of the 2010 Orange Park Derby and now looks to be trying his hand at 550 yards for a chance at the upcoming stakes. If he is going to contend over this distance, he will need to improve his break in order to be effective.

5. Kiowa Kind Gel (Flying Penske - Kiowa Oneofakind) is channeling her inner super breaker in her last couple of starts. She has been coming out in a hurry and will an empty post and slow greyhounds to her inside, she might just steal enough early to win her 3rd race in a row in this race.

6. Kiowa Shag Along (Flying Stanley - Kiowa Shag Sue) is a strong breaking greyhound that has recent success on the front end in grade A. She has all the tools to steal away the win in this effort, let's see if she is up to the task.

7. La's Silver (Be Discrete - La's Felisha) is a promising looking puppy that needs to start breaking again in order to be effective. She has found trouble in her last couple of races and needs a quick start in order to get back on track in this effort.

8. Jivin Jasper (Flying Stanley - Greys Bombayduck) has shown some great early speed in his races and he will need it in this race as he is up 2 grades and in against some talented grade A greyhounds. Without the lead he has been suspect and his beloved rail is a mile away today. Hitting the lid again would be advised.

Breaking quickly and diving to the front end will be the Kiowa duo from the middle of the racetrack. Kiowa Kind Gel and Kiowa Shag Along both have enough early speed to gain control of this race from the get go, but only one of them is going to make it there. I think Kind Gel gets more room with the empty box and the slow breakers to her inside. Once in front the lead will be challenged throughout, but she should have enough to hold on late for the win. Shag Along gives a valiant attempt, but come up just short of his winning goal. Coming on late to challenge should be the stakes veteran Gm's Cashman from a favorable post position, and the always moving forward Jean's Gypsy should also give a charge. She did just miss by a nose last time out from this post and if she does decide to come out close, she might be smelling an upset at the wire today.
