The power pups from the Lester Raines Kennel might have been absent from round one, but in round two they made amends as the big names came thru and took home wins in 3 of the 6 stakes events on the card in the second round of the 2010 Jacksonville Juvenile.
Leading the pack, in the 10th race on the card, was Really Xtreme. Xtreme lived up to his expectations in this effort as she came out quickly, rushed to early control, and drew away from the field to win easily by 5 lengths. What was even more impressive was his winning time of 30.31 seconds. That us ULTRA fast on this racetrack and was almost 4 lengths better than any other winning greyhound on the card. On this occasion, he proved why he has the pre-race favorite. Not to be outdone by too much, in the 7th race strong closer Kelsos Spiffy came to run on this occasion as well. Breaking from a good post position, Spiffy outrushed everyone to the lead and left the field in her wake as she walked away from the competition with each and every step she took. Crossing the line nearly 5 lengths clear of her nearest threat, Spiffy's 30.56 run was next best to Xtreme's on the card.
The third best effort on the card came in the 12th race from another Lester Raines Greyhound, Hs Butane. The fire got started early in this effort as Butane hit the after burners heading to the turn and outrushed everyone to the lead. From that point on it just got UGLY as he coasted on the lead in the clean air and crossed the finish line almost 5 lengths ahead of the rest of the field as he stopped the clock at 30.64 seconds.
The other winners came from the Willis, Wildfire, and DQ Williams Kennels.
Gs Prada, from Willis, gave a strong determined effort in the 13th race on the card to come again in the stretch to steal away the win. Really what did the trick for this closer, was getting near the lead early on. In the stretch the early speeder was not match for her as she jetted home to win by almost 4 lengths in a quick 30.74 second romp.
Wkl Marly Carly wasted no time at all in the 11th race as she popped the box and held the lead all the way to the wire for the Wildfire win. What made this win even more impressive was how she didn't let anything phase her. She was bumped in the 1st turn and pressured to the up the backside and into the far turn, but she kept he poise and her eye on the prize.
Miami On Fire was the only closing winner on the card, as trust me when I say, it was by the slimmest of margins. The top 4 greyhounds, in the 4th race, were in the photo for the win and separated by just a neck. To his credit, Miami, never gave up and showed the true drive and all out effort that many of his predecessors from the DQ Williams Kennel have in the past. Although his 31.17 clocking was the slowest stakes time on the card, a win is a win is a win.
The third round of the stakes will run on Friday December 3rd at the Orange Park Kennel Club, and the field will be cut down to 4 races. Just 32 of the best puppies remain and with no undefeated greyhounds left, and the points spread all over the place, this is going to prove to be an important round for everyone. JOIN US!
