Great Weekend On Tap at the OPKC

Friday - 7/16/2010

Another great weekend is on tap here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Whether you like 550 or 660 yard races we have something in store for you. Both Night of Stars winners are on tap and looking to get back into the winners circle, but it is not going to be easy.

There are sleepers in each and every race. Posted up greyhounds, veteran greyhounds with stakes experience, and even some puppies that might have an chance to upset.

All in all there is going to be some great races to watch this weekend, so tune in and catch all of the exciting action.

First up is the nightcap for Friday evening, the 15th and final race.

1. Make U Look (Diamond's For Me - Let's Run To Win) is a recent addition to the track that has shown flashes of speed. Both parents were monsters here. Watch out if he gets loose early on.

2. Kay Jsk Victor (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Sol Victory) is coming back off a rest and gets a great spot to start from in this effort. The rail is his friend and if he can break, he might have a shot at the upset.

3. Gs Roman (Dodgem By Design - J's Wrinkle Free) needs to forget the fall in his last race and get back to contending. He has some close left in the bag in the stretch and he will need it in this effort.

4. Kiowa Sol Skelly (Deerfield Site* - Sol Skelly) might be in for an awakening in this effort two grades up in just 4 efforts. The good news is that has likes it midtrack and he can close. He could be a sleeper.

5. Skiddy Banjo (Dodgem By Design - Kansas Factor) is a solid chaser that uses his early speed to get into contention at the start of the race. He would rather be on the rail, so it will take a big effort tonight.

6. Fth Tiger Lilly (Take It Over - Fth Moon Dancer) will go to the rail early on, but if she breaks it won't be much of a problem. She has the skills to do it, will she show up and do it is the only question.

7. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) is the best sprinter at the track on the lead, but she needs to start hitting the lid again to get there. Here that might be a task, let's see what happens.

8. Leading Steps (Lonesome Cry - Tk Ashira) has been on fire as of late and just missed the NOS title by a nose at the wire. With 4 wins in 6 races, he is the one to beat in this effort tonight.

Talk about your mono a mono showdown, this race features one on the outside part of the racetrack. Leading Steps and Rs Libby Lu are the best breakers and rushes in this field, and with Fth Tiger Lilly going to the rail early on, there are going to get even more room to the turn. Both greyhounds have the skills to win this race, but you have to go with the hot hand. Libby Lu could be the favorite, but she has not been herself out of the starting box. Leading Steps has been a machine at the break and Libby will not get in front of him at the start. This should be a heated battle for the lead and the win throughout, but Leading Steps survives on the late lead for the slim win. Libby Lu gives her all, but is just short in second. Next should be Fth Tiger Lilly. Lilly will follows the leaders out of the box and dive to the rail early where she wants to be. If she can stay clear of trouble she has enough early and late to contend with the leaders for the duration of this race. Gs Roman gets the best of the rest trophy in this effort. he likes is midtrack and has enough left late to come on and find a way into the superfecta at the finish line. (8-7-6-3)

Saturday - 7/17/2010

Time to move over to the 660 yard course in the 15th race for Saturday evening.

1. On The Fly (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) is coming off a huge win in her last effort to get back to the ranks of the grade A's. Posted up on the rail, she will be closing throughout and tough if close early on.

2. Power Exchange (Craigie Whistler - Aunt Redmoon) loves the rail and the 2 box will up the ante for him in this race. He has been a force in almost all of his races, and from here he breaks. Watch out for the upset.

3. Kanuka (Fuzzys Cannon - Well Chosen) might be up a couple of grades in this effort, but if she keeps running like she has, she might be a force again in this race. Running best near the lead, she has to break tonight.

4. Kelsos Henchman (Kelsos Fusileer - Kelsos Picilino) was the NOS marathon winner, but this is a 660 yards race. This big time closer will be coming throughout, but will it be too little too late tonight?

5. Kiowa Deli Dee (Flying Stanley - Kiowa About Deli) is an early speed monster that can bomb out to the lead at any time against any field. He has to be there as he is short late, so a big break is needed here.

6. JJB Good As Gold (Lonesome Cry - Joe's My Man) can be tough on the lead, but up a grade and in with all this early speed, it could be tough to get done. If he does see the front, he will factor throughout.

7. La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) seems to be righting the ship as of late. She is as fast as anyone when she can get room to run early on. She likes the lead, but can win from behind. She is the one to beat.

8. Hallo My Pear (Hallo West Acre - Kiowa Chil Cavel) is all about the early speed over 660 yards. He is shot out of the box and needs to keep it up in this race. Short in the stretch, he must come out running.

With the double powers, La's Lucy should be the one to look at for the win in this effort. If she breaks, no one is faster and even without the lead, she can still come from off the pace and get it done before the finish line. More of the second in this race as there is a ton of early speed greyhounds around. She might not be in control at the get go, but at the wire she will be. Power Exchange is in a rail post and that should be enough said. LOL! This greyhound loves it in here and break very well from these post positions. If he can find a way to get to the lead, he could be the upset winner in this effort. Kelsos Henchman is a super closer that will be making up ground throughout in this effort. He has not missed the money in 6 straight and won the NOS marathon feature. Even from this post, he will factor with the leaders at the finish line. Now let's not forget about Kiowa Deli Dee. This all out early speed machine could hit the lid and steal 20 on this field early on. I know in the stretch she can be run down at will by the chasers, but on occasion she wins too. Just look back a couple of races and wins. If she wants to go, she will be in the mix to the finish line. (7-2-4-5)

Saturday - 7/17/2010

Saturday matinee's race comes your way in the 11th on the racing card.

1. Come On Taka Trip (Fuzzys Cannon - Instant Vintage) is a on again off again kind of greyhound that is most successful when he is close to the early lead in any race. If he breaks, he could surprise today.

2. Willing Effort (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) might be up two grades but with all of her early speed, she is running tough against the best of the best. Posted up well, she could be tough again.

3. La's Jaguar (Be Discrete - La's Felisha) is a strong competitor that can win with or without the lead in any race. He has good closing ability and if he is too close too soon, this race will already be over.

4. Fay's McQueen (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) had his win streak stopped in his last race, but if he breaks like it can, no one is going to get to him before the finish line. This is his race to lose.

5. Hanks Dinah (Lonesome Cry - Dolly Madison) is moving back to grade A in this effort after a big win last time out. This is not a rail post though and that will be a difference maker for her. She must break.

6. Kiowa Mc Gee (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Kiowa Wild Color) jumped right up the grading ladder to grade A, but since has had some trouble around the track. He just needs a clean trip again, and he might have a shot to get it done.

7. Bf Dora (Dodgem By Design - Sol Lasting) runs her best near the early lead in the race, so her break will be the most critical part of this effort. She likes this post and just misses last time from the 7 box.

8. Kiowa Mon Elsie (Kiowa Mon Manny - Kiowa Kays Dream) is an early speed greyhound that is a bit short at the finish line. Here she will need to come out running if she wants to have a chance at the money positions.

Clearly Fay's Mcqueen is the one to beat in this effort. He has tremendous speed and once he pokes his nose in front, he is extremely tough to take down before the finish line. He had won 4 races in a row previous to his last effort. He does need to hit the lid and steal some early on as La's Jaguar is not going to make it an easy victory. He is posted well, running hot, and has enough late speed to make it interesting at the finish line. If he can get clear early on, this could be a knockdown, drag out affair. Winning Effort has to be considered a factor as well. Her early speed will get her into the mix at the start of this race, but how long can she hang with the leaders is the real question. If she can beat everyone to the turn and steal a few lengths, she might have an outside shot at taking home a longshot win. Kiowa Mc Gee is a puppy with great potential and if he can just get a clean trip in grade A, you never know what he can really do. The post is fine and really his key to success will be getting out of the starting box in this effort. He has not broken in his last 3 efforts and that has been the difference in grade A. Look for him to show his stuff and find the money again in this effort. (4-3-2-6)

Sunday - 7/18/2010

Rounding up the weekend we look at the 11th race on the card for Sunday matinee.

1. Mw Sekhnot (C Ya Costa Maya - Mw Steel Jaw) is a solid grade A competitor that is still a puppy learning how to compete. He has good and some not so good efforts, he has to be around early to contend.

2. Passing Gear (Flying Missle - Nikki Di) has been getting little respect in grade A, but has been running tough as of late. Granted he is short in the stretch, but from a good post he could be tough again today.

3. Nanette's Show (Greys Big Show - Star Olga) has looked tough when she is close to the early lead in almost any race, but getting there consistently has been her problem. From a rail post, she might have a shot.

4. Kiowa Top Design (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) is a solid chaser that can come on late against the best of them. He likes it midtrack and as long as he can get a lane early, he should be around late.

5. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) was the Night of Stars winner who is never out of any race. He is a tough threat with or without the early lead, and will do whatever needed to post up a win, even from the 5 box.

6. Mr Barret (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) can run from almost any post as long as he gets out of the starting box. Recently he has been rushing out and running tough. Looking to continue here, he has to move out fast.

7. Ctw Anti Gravity (Maryville Rumble* - Greys Gravity) is a good rail closer that has started to round back into form as of late. Here he is a long way from home in the 7 box and will have to use his late speed to make do.

8. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) is back from a rest and looks rip roaring ready to go. This is her best starting box and if she gets loose, she will be the one to beat in this effort. At 550, she can get win on or off the pace.

Tough to pick against the guy that has everything going for him as of late, so I WON'T! Gm's Cashman is still the man to beat. Not only did he win the NOS feature, he won 2 starts ago by 19 and a half lengths! WOW! Ok, so there was trouble behind him, but he was not going to lose that effort. Breaking from a similar middle post once again, he is going to get close early and take over late for the victory. Gs Ashlynn is back and gets to start her return to racing from her best box, the 8. She loves it wide and can over 550 can come on with the best of them in the stretch. I don't expect her to make the lead, but if she does, the race is over. More likely, she comes out close and advances throughout to challenge. Battling for the early lead should be Passing Gear. This greyhound has a great post and has enough early speed to sneak off with the early lead in this race. He does need to step up in this effort and even if he can steal 5, I don't think he can hold off the late challenge by the chasers. So all in all a good effort, just not good enough. Kiowa Top Design is a steady closer that should follow Cashman to the turn and the finish line in this effort. Making up ground is what he does best and he should be doing that throughout the race. Winning will be a stretch, but finishing in the money is not. (5-8-2-4)
