Weekend Update

Friday - 6/25/2010

This weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club we have a pair of veteran runners who are getting back into the groove of things.

What makes it even more exciting is that they are racing over different distances in different races. A double chance to see the best at the racetrack compete.

They are not the only ones that will be showing off their talents too, we still have loads of others ready to go in our 4 feature races.

So without further ado, let's jump right into the action on Friday evening in the 15th race on the card.

1. Uss West Coast (Lonesome Cry - Uss Mysterious) gets a great post here with the 1 box and could make the most of it. With wins in 3 of 6 efforts, he is a threat & could prove tough again.

2. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) the queen of the 550 yard course, this double stakes winner is in one of her best boxes. Expect her to break fast and be the one to beat in this race.

3. Mw Springer (Lewis And Wax - Mw's April Rain) is hot off the stakes rounds and has proved that he can hang with the best of them. He runs his best close to the lead, so a good break is needed here.

4. Whyjam Ms Ann (Ethereal Force - Cv's Michaela) might be new to the racetrack, but has shown some flashes of speed in the open. Another game runner, she needs to be around the pace early on.

5. Gm's Dale (Deerfield Site* - Steffie's Charm) is a solid grade A competitor that chases the pace most of the time. He doesn't mind the 5 box, but will need to have room early in order to be effective.

6. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) might not have won a bunch of races lately, but she has been around in all of them. A steady runner with a bit of close, the outside post will help her out.

7. Fay's Mcqueen (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) is a monster on the lead and might just have the best raw speed in the bunch. The issue is that he has not been breaking like he can. If he does, watch out!

8. Irish Memory (Maryville Rumble* - Wheelie Cool) is a game runner when she can get close to the early leaders in any race. Posted outside, a big early rush is what she needs in this effort tonight.

Easy picking here! LOL! Rs Libby Lu is the one to beat, HANDS DOWN! She likes the rail, gets the rail, and will make the early lead in this race. Once in front, no one at the racetrack can run her down! Expect the new win streak to continue. Uss West Coast was a runner-up to Libby Lu in their last match-up, and that should be where he finishes again tonight. He is in a much better post in this race though and might be able to get a bit closer at the start of this race. I don't know if this will be a big win for Libby, because from the 1 box, West Coast is going to make it interesting. Mw Springer might be short on starts, but he is long on talent. This puppy stakes competitor has been against the best and has proven that he can hang. He likes it inside and has enough early to get close and enough late to hang around. He might not be a winning threat here, but he is for sure an in the money threat in this effort. Kiowa Vanessa has not won a race in a while, but she has been competitive in each and every start. With 4 straight trifectas and 6 straight in the money finishes, she is always around the leaders. Tonight will not break from the norm, she will keep on keeping on. (2-1-3-6)

Saturday - 6/26/2010

Feature race two on the weekend comes our way in the 11th race on the card for Saturday Matinee.

1. Kiowa Girlrumble (Maryville Rumble* - Kiowa Glamorgirl) might be moving up in grade, but she has the chops to hang with the grade A's. A rail lover in the one box, what is not to like about this effort?

2. Kiowa Mon Dream (Kiowa Mon Manny - Kiowa Kay Dream) has some good early speed and he is going to need it against this tough field. He likes the rail too and this post might be enough for him to contend.

3. Raiders Benito (Dodgem By Design - Raiders Azeri) just recently moved back to grade A and seems to have things going well for him once again. He is posted well here, but must break to be in the mix.

4. Black Licorice (Heart Rumble* - Spicy Candy) is an on again off again greyhound that has great raw speed when the faucet is open. From a talented litter, he can surprise at any time. Tonight? Maybe.

5. Rays Finishline (My Judge - Ivyona Star) if coming off a win and is back over 550 yards. He is a closer at the shorter distance and should be making up ground throughout. The post might be trouble.

6. Bh's Simplylegit (Bh's Rackem Up - Simple Life) has clawed her way back into grade A after some strong front running efforts. She has good early speed and it might be enough to wire this field and win.

7. Playing Amy Song (Golddust Memory - Greys Irish Song) was the point leader in the puppy stakes and could easily win this race if the mood suits her. She can break & has more late speed than the rest. If she gets loose, this race is over.

8. Kiowa Heart True (Heart Rumble* - Kiowa Oneofakind) post is what is going to make this greyhound a threat. She has some good early speed and if she gets around close, she could factor to the finish.

This race is a hard one to figure out, but I'm going to give it a shot. Being a matinee, the speed is going to hold on better than it would in the evening card, so let's go with the early speeders. Bh's Simply Legit gets a good post position here on the outside and should be able to clear early and have room to rush to the turn. Once in the lead he is going to be pressed, but should steal enough to hold on at the finish line. Pressing him should be the Kiowa duo of Kiowa Girlrumble and Kiowa Heart True. Both greyhounds are posted up extremely well in this race and each has an opportunity to take home a victory. Girlrumble might have a bit of a better shot though as she is not short at the end of the race and might have a chance if she breaks to take someone off the lead in the stretch. Heart True might be overlooked today, but that would be a mistake. From this post position she is dangerous. Look 3 races back where she ran the best effort of her career from this very some box. Winning might be a stretch, but threatening is not. Now for the wildcard. Playing Amy Song. I know the closer will probably be the favorite to win this effort and if she gets loose early, she will walk away and hind from this field. That's the thing, IF she wants to run. You never know when that is. Here I expect her to be left early on, for her to make up ground throughout, and for her to come flying up at the finish line to challenge the leaders. Could she win? Yes. The only question is, WILL SHE? (6-1-8-7)

Saturday - 6/26/2010

The fun continues on with the 15th and final race on the card for Saturday Evening.

1. Lady Gator (Get Over - Rooftop Flojo) has looked impressive on the early lead in her races so far over 660 yards, but she needs to get there as she hasn't run from behind yet. If she breaks, OUCH!

2. Power Exchange (Craigie Whistler - Aunt Redmoon) is running tough as of late and is loving the inside post that he drew in this effort. If he gets loose, he could upset at high odds in this race.

3. Se's We Goin Too (P's Skidway - We Goin Sizzler) is back in grade A and looking to contend. This even runner can close a bit on occasion, but runs her best near the early lead. She must break tonight.

4. Kiowa Deli Dee (Flying Stanley - Kiowa About Deli) is an early speed merchant that must be in front at the start in order to contend. Holding on against this field will be tough and she will need a ton to do it.

5. Kelsos Henchman (Kelsos Fusileer - Kelsos Picilino) hot off the stakes rounds and back over 660, he is thriving. He has been closing fast in the stretch and should be factoring at the wire again.

6. Bl Tip Toe Marie (Lonesome Cry - Jr's Mojo) won back to back races to get back into grade A, but the hill and competition has gotten bigger and tougher. She must break and get to the rail if she wants a chance.

7. La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) is finally breaking again and that is bad news for whomever she is racing against. Remember she ran 37.06 just over a month ago, she is the one to beat in this race.

8. Eds Go Touch (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) seems to be waking up as of late with back to back wins and a return to grade A. He has decided to keep closing throughout the race. Another 8 box, we'll see.

La's Lucy is the one to beat in this effort. She is better than the rest of this field when she is on, and right now with back to back jacks, she is on. She likes it outside and should be out and gone early on again tonight. All she has to do is be close and she should take home the 3-peat. Power Exchange has been long in the odds department as of late, but really he shouldn't be. He has been running tough ahd has been in the cash in 4 of his last 6 efforts in grade A, including a win 4 starts ago from a similar post position. If he can break well, he has the opportunity to upset in this race at a good price. Kelsos Henchman has been on a mission since coming back to 660 yards and should be closing well once again in this effort. The only question mark is the post position. This is not the 1 box and will have to find room early on in order to get around the turn and have a chance to close late. If he clears, he will be a threat. Eds Go Touch has figured it out once again and that late kick should come in handy in this effort. Post is on his side too as he likes it out here. Just look at his last race, an easy win from this post. Tonight he is looking for another strong effort. (7-2-5-8)

Sunday - 6/27/2010

Wrapping up the weekend we head to the 7th race on the card for Sunday Matinee.

1. Gm's Warner (Lewis And Wax - Gs Kayla) comes back to grade A after a strong closing win in his last effort. Here from a similar post position, he might have another shot at the upset victory.

2. Miss Romy (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) is far better than he lines show. She loves the rail and gets it here in the 2 box. In the open this stakes finalist could make quick work of this field.

3. Citation Cam (Flying Penske - Ctw Miss Kelly) is the cagey veteran in this field and could take it box to wire at any time. Without the lead she is not the same greyhound. Will she break? That's the question.

4. Tmc's Bestofshow (Dodgem By Design - Tmc's Pardon Me) is explosive when she can get out of the starting box and close to the early lead in any race. She has been hot as of late and hopes it continues here.

5. Wp's Lonesumdove (Lonesome Cry - Fuzzys Spider) has jumped up the ladder to grade A in a hurry. In those 3 wins she came from off the pace to win. If she hopes to threaten, she has to have a clean trip.

6. Gs Craig (Lonesome Cry - Tv Candycane Gal) is a solid threat in grade A that just seems to never go away. He breaks close, hangs close, and finishes close in almost all of his starts. Contending again? YES!

7. Kiowa Kind Gel (Flying Penske - Kiowa Oneofakind) need to flash that she is known for once again in this effort. She has been able to last late on occasion too. From a favorable post, she has a shot.

8. Kiowa Fly Remi (Flying Stanley - Flying Rolling) is another ankle burner in this field that gets another shot at the grade A greyhounds. He is very short in the stretch though, so a big lead early will be needed to contend.

There is a good mix of early and late speed greyhounds in this field and even ones that are posted up nicely too. So let's go with a little bit of both. Miss Romy might not be in the early lead in this race, but in the stretch no one is going to beat her to the finish line. She has a great post, finally inside, and she will break well enough to be close early on. That is all she needs as no one here can run with her in the stretch. Whatever she needs to do to win, she is going to do in this effort. Tmc's Bestofshow has looked really well close or on the early lead in her last couple of races. She has won 2 of 3 starts and with no big time speed to her inside, she might be able to see the front in this race. She will have extra room early on with the empty box. Upset minded, she might pull off back to back wins. Kiowa Kind Gel is the best early speed greyhound with class in this race. I know she is short late and will probably be once again in this race. Holding on at the wire will be a task, but she has risen to the occasion in this past. The post will help her. Watch out if she gets some help behind her today. Gs Craig has really stepped up his game as of late and has been contending at the finish line with the best of them. He has closed in all of those starts and should continue to make up ground in this race too. He is tough on the lead if he can get loose, but that might be a task against the big time early speed to either side of him. Look for another in the money effort today. (2-4-7-6)

Mr. Clark Hot as Anyone

After winning his schooling races for fun, Mr. Clark looked to be on his way to grade A in a hurry here at the Orange Park Kennel Club and becoming quite a force once her got there.

Oh the best laid plans of mice and men!

Ok so he hasn't really tore up the racetrack as of yet, but over his last couple of races the lightbulbs have come on and everyone has been noticing the party.

It's like he knew after he missed his opportunity to make the finals of the 2010 JGR Puppy Stakes, after winning a round and finishing second in another, something needed to change.

So what has been the difference maker? His break of course, and maybe a little trip back to grade B too. Since that effort he has been getting out of the box much better and has been getting to the lead early on in his efforts. This in turn has led to three wins in a row and in each he has broke better and looked stronger and stronger heading to the wire.

OP 6/21/2010E-10 550 30.94 F 67 1 1 1 2 1 2 1 4 30.94 *1.80 A Showed The Way Rail

OP 6/12/2010E-05 550 30.83 F 67 7 4 2 1 3 1 1.5 30.83 *1.10 B Took Over Far Turn

Post might also have something to do with it. Mr. Clark like to race on the rail, but can rush to the inside from any of the rail or far outside post positions.

Maybe, finally, he is starting to mature and realize that he can't sit in the box and get bounced around at the first turn and still try and rebound to win races. You have to be close early on and if he keeps it up, this win streak should continue on for a while.

Thanks to DQ for bringing us another great litter of puppies that have all gone to grade A. Miss Kate, Miss Romy, Miss Sylvie, Mr Barret, Mr. Duncan, and of course Mr. Clark all have competed against the best at the racetrack and 5 of the 6 have won in grade A.

No wonder DQ has been on top in the kennel standings forever here. They keep bringing in the talented puppies and chalking up the victories. Continues success to Mr. Clark and the rest of this fantastic litter.

Weekend Update

Friday - 6/18/2010

Another great weekend of racing is ahead of us here at the Orange Park Kennel Club and this time around the best two greyhounds at the racetrack over 550 are in different races.

No matter what you like, we have got you covered. Do you like the early speeders? Check. Do you like the late speeders? Check. Do you like the chalk? Check. Or do you like a longshot? Check.

Just tune in to each and every card this weekend and you will find just what you are looking for here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

The first race that we will look at is the 10th on the card for Friday evening.

1. Mr Barret (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) might just be back up in grade A, but loves the rail and couldn't be happier with this post position in this race. Watch out if he is close early on.

2. Black Licorice (Heart Rumble* - Spicy Candy) is from a good litter that can run a ton, well that is when he wants to go. The post should help out, but we'll still need to see if he wants to run in this effort.

3. Kiowa Voneisha (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a great closer that can come on home with the best of them. She just needs room to do it. She would rather be wide and must do her best from this post.

4. Uss West Coast (Lonesome Cry - Uss Mysterious) is a monster on the front end, but the problem is that he only gets there every once in awhile. His key to success is his break, let's see if he is up to the task.

5. Irish Memory (Maryville Rumble* - Wheelie Cool) might be a bit over her head in this effort. Moving up from C to take on a talented field, one word, TOUGH! Especially from the 5 box. She needs help.

6. Kiowa Mon Dream (Kiowa Mon Manny - Kiowa Kay Dream) has some good early speed and should be able to be around early, but up in grade lasting might be the problem at the finish line.

7. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) might have had her win streak stopped in her last effort, but a new one starts out tonight. All she has to do is break and the race will be over.

8. Kiowa Sol Site (Deerfield Site* - Sol Skelly) a solid even runner that needs to come out close in order to be effective. Working for her is the post. The has time in this box, she won the race.

Time to be realistic. This is not a stakes caliber field of greyhounds and we have the greyhound in here that has won back to back stakes finals. Rs Libby Lu is the only one to beat. She might have lost to the puppy stakes winner in her last race, but she really sat in the box and never got to the lead in that effort. Here she finds her break again and once on top, FORGETABOUTIT! Next best how about Mr Barret. He loves the rail and gets the reddest of posts in this effort. He has won 2 of 3 races and has been in the money in 5 of 6 starts. He has enough early to get close and enough staying power to keep pace. Runner up at best. Kiowa Voneisha is a steady closer that should be making up ground throughout in this effort. Her only drawback in this effort is the post position. She likes it wide and will have to work hard to get there in this effort. She can overcome things with her late speed and should be able to find her way into the money once again tonight. Uss West Coast is the just in case big of this field. He has tremendous raw speed, you just don't know when he is going to use it. If he does break with the leaders tonight, he is going to be tough to keep out of the top spots at the finish line. (7-1-3-4)

Saturday - 6/19/2010

The second feature race on the weekend comes our way in the 11th on the card for Saturday Matinee.

1. Gs Craig (Lonesome Cry - Tv Candycane Gal) is all rail all the time and gets a great post here in the 1 box. An early speed greyhound that needs to come out close to be effective. He must break today.

2. Howdoyoulikethat (Lonesome Cry - Here's The Thing) has been a force since arriving from Southland. He has not been breaking as sharply as of late, but still can factor on or off the pace. Solid threat here.

3. Kiowa Gooddesign (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) is an early speed machine that can beat everyone to the turn for fun in any race. He pays for it late though and has not held on in his last 6. Leading, factors, short late, but in the money at the wire.

4. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) is a solid grade A competitor that can close with the best of them. He never gives up and will be making up ground throughout once again today. If he breaks, he could steal it.

5. Tmc's Bestofshow (Dodgem By Design - Tmc's Pardon Me) has really started to come into her own as of late. With 3 wins in 6 starts, including one in grade A in her last effort, she is a force. The 5 box could be her biggest hurdle in this race.

6. Passing Gear (Flying Missle - Nikki Di) has been running his heart out in grade B and now gets a chance back in grade A in this effort. He has some early speed and is short at the end of the race. He is hot, but will the translate against the best at the racetrack?

7. Awesomeofcourse (Trent Lee - Ctw Miss Kelly) has really taken to the racetrack since coming here from Tri-State. He has showed great early speed and enough staying power to win. If he is on his game, he will be hard to beat.

8. Daycare Ron (Lonesome Cry - Ml Teardrops) is a strong closer that has just started to show really what he can do on the racetrack. He loves this post and if he breaks like he did 2 races back, it could be another grade A victory.

I know he is not going to be in front at the start of this race, but at the end I think it is going to be hard to keep Daycare Ron out of the winner's circle. He has everything going for him and even though he won't sniff the front end early on, he will be close enough to take down everyone in front of him before the finish line. The post is the key ingredient in this victory. Just look 2 races back and you will see just what I mean. Dueling throughout on the front end should be the best 2 early speed greyhounds in this field. Kiowa Gooddesign and Awesomeofcourse. Gooddesign has the slight edge early on and should lead for the majority of this effort, but in the stretch he is way short and that will prove to be his demise. Awesomeofcourse has a bit more staying power as they approach the wire and that could be the formula to another big time effort. If the planets align either of these greyhounds could make the lead, steal enough early on, and survive at the wire for the victory. Howdoyoulikethat has some things going for him as well in this effort. He loves the rail, and gets it again in this race. He is running well, hot off a win in grade A, and has enough early to get close and enough late to steal away the win at the finish line. If he wants to run, he will make the leader, and possible winner, work for the victory. (8-7-3-2)

Saturday - 6/19/2010

Race 3 on the weekend comes our way on Saturday Evening in the 11th race on the card.

1. Ru Tuff Enuf (Let's Winendine - Faith Keeper) has really found that form that almost saw him win a stakes race last year. He has been breaking well and is getting better in every start. From this favorable post, he will be tough tonight.

2. Lady Avery (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) will not be around early on in this race. She is a big time closer that comes from way off the pace to challenge at the finish line. Posted up well here, look for the blue streak in the stretch.

3. Hs Blazinstanley (Flying Stanley - Flat Out Heidi) loves this racetrack and has really well since arriving. He has shown some great early speed and on occasion he can hold on at the wire and steal away a win. Against this ultra-talented field, it could be an uphill battle.

4. Sweet Babboo (Dodgem By Design - Rooftop Sara) is a bit of a closer that needs to pick up his game early on if he wants to compete in grade A. He gets there alright, but once there he has troubles. Only good news, his last win came from this post.

5. Kiowa New Design (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) is a steady runner that can come on a bit at the end of the race. She loves the outside and will have to make due from this middle post. If she breaks at all, she could be tough here.

6. Paddy Whacker (Heart Rumble* - Spicy Candy) is the leader of a talented litter of greyhounds. He just won the puppy stakes and took down Libby Lu in his last race as he won his 4th in a row. From another great post, he is the one to beat.

7. Gs Shabam (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) is a even rail runner that will have some work to do in this effort from the outside post position. Breaking quickly is the only chance he has to factor in this race.

8. Pat C Stylish (Pat C Roadster - Pat C Yosemite) is a nice looking puppy that has just made it recently to grade A. So far when she breaks, she runs pretty tough. Against this field, she is going to have to run a career best in order to compete.

No doubt who is the favorite in this race, Paddy Whacker. This greyhound has just one a stakes race, he has just capped off a 4 race win streak by beating Rs Libby Lu who won the last 2 sprints stakes at the racetrack, and he gets another good outside post position in this effort. Everything is going for him in this effort and if he performs like he has in the recent past, he is going to win this effort. Making him work for it could be Ru Tuff Enuf. Tuff Enuf has really started to get back into the groove as of late with a couple of wins and 4 quiniela efforts in his last 5 starts. He has started to break better and can keep coming on anyone in any race. The post is the best part of the equation for him tonight. No speed next to him with Lady Avery, he could clear close and make it interesting at the finish line. Speaking of Lady Avery, we can't forget about her in this effort. She is a closing machine that can come from last and beat anyone at the racetrack if she wants too. The rail post is just fine for her and if she can break at all, she might be the one that gets home a winner tonight. Hs Blazingstanley need not be overlooked in this effort either. He has the best early speed of the bunch and could easily see the lead from a good inside post position. His problem is that everyone chasing him has much better speed in the stretch than he does. If he could get the lead and get some help behind him, he could steal away this victory tonight. (6-1-2-3)

Sunday - 6/20/2010

Capping off the weekend, we will look at the 11th race on the card for Sunday Matinee.

1. Raiders Bart (Dodgem By Design - Raiders Azeri) is a solid grade A runner that can go to the lead and hang tough throughout for the win, especially from the rail post positions. He has it all going for him in this effort.

2. Skiddy Button (Dodgem By Design - Kansas Factor) has fought her way back up to grade A from grade D. She is back in form now and gets a great post to start this race from. Now the competition heats up, is she ready for the task, or not?

3. Comedrinkwithme (Dauntless - Instant Vintage) is a big time closer that will be come on late once again in this effort. With double distance parents, you would expect it, but the lights must come on to get it done. Let's see who shows up today.

4. Fay's Mcqueen (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) found it again in his last race. He finally broke again and raced off alone for the easy win. I know it was grade B, but all he needs is the lead, and this race is over.

5. Kiowa Shag Along (Flying Stanley - Kiowa Shag Sue) has been running as well as anyone in this race over his last 6 efforts. He has been breaking close and hanging tough late for some wins, and some in the money finishes. If he comes out running, he will be a major factor today.

6. Big Drama (Get Over - Rooftop Flojo) is still learning how to run, but has turned into a solid grade A greyhound with some good closing speed. She just wishes she was on the rail today. She will have to work hard, but should have enough late to get into contention.

7. Teeshawn (Fuzzys Cannon - Well Chosen) seemed to have found his form again in the stakes rounds and it has continued on since. He might have won a bunch, just once, but he has been competitive. He can come late, but runs best close to the lead. A good break is needed if he wants to upset.

8. Designer Series (Dodgem By Design - Break Comet) is an all out front runner that needs to break in order to be effective in any race. He has been pretty good as of late with 3 wins in his last 6 races, all of which came from the front end. If he can steal enough early, he might just surprise here.

The quickest of the quick is in his race is Fay's Mcqueen and after his last effort, he looks to get back on the right track for winning. He really found his break in that effort and left the field behind. I know it was grade B, but he has won in A so many times before. With extra room early on, I expect a big break and for him to control this race throughout. Raiders Bart must also be considered in this effort. He too has been running at the top of his game and from another great rail post position you should expect another big effort. Kiowa Shag Along might just have the best early speed of the bunch and if he decides to hit the lid, then this field might have a hard time getting to him before the finish line. I know he would rather be on the rail, but breaking is really the key to his success. If he makes the most of the extra room, he could take home the win today. Big Drama is the best closer in this race and as long as she can get to the rail, she will be effective in this effort. She might just be a puppy but she is running far beyond her years recently. She even has a shot of the upset if she gets loose early on, so let's see just what the puppy can do in this effort. (4-1-5-6)

Nick Nack Paddy Whacks Field in Finals of JGR Puppy Stakes

The finals of the 2010 JGR Puppy Stakes were no nursery rhyme or fairy tale for Paddy Whacker as he came to run and was ready to show just why he is the best puppy at the racetrack.
Post position was the big question mark for him in this effort. He likes it outside and drew a tough middle post, but when you break you can overcome almost anything, and that is just what he did in the finals.

To no one's surprise, when the box opened up La's Silver hit the mark and took the lead in the first few steps, but the bad news for her was that Paddy Whacker had make up his mind to run tonight and was just off in second. As they headed to and thru the turn Silver's early lead had all but disappeared and as they started up the backside, Paddy was in full WHACK mode. He easily cleared on the rail and just drew away from the field with each and every step he took. He was never really challenged from this point on as he easily took the checkered flag 6 and a half lengths clear of the nearest competitor in a blazing time of 30.37 seconds.

What was almost more fun to watch was the battle for place. Silver still hung tough, even though she was taken off the lead, and was in a donnybrook with Leading Steps from the 660 yard box all the way to the finish line. The bad news for this duo was that Smokin Snoopy was in the mix too and he has just a bit more staying power than either of the greyhounds in front of him. At the wire he eecked out the place position in a three way photo finish. Silver managed third and Leading Steps rounded out the superfecta.

Fth Tiger Lilly finished fifth after a strong effort despite being clipped from behind as she was rushing to the first turn. She never gave up at any point and just kept on coming throughout in this effort.

Favorite Playing Amy Song finished sixth after sitting in the starting box, breaking last, and running into trouble in both turns.

Tipsy Brutus W was seventh after a slow start and a trouble ridden race, and Mw Sekhnot was eighth after being cutoff and colliding as he was rushing to the first turn.

Once again B & J pulls off the puppy stakes victory. Maybe we should just change the name at this point to the B & J Puppy Stakes. You see they have not only won this race the last three years in a row, they have also won the Jacksonville Juvenile for three straight years. So the last six puppy stakes at the racetrack have been won by a B & J greyhound.

Congratulations to owner Lisa Riches on her first every stakes victory and thanks for making the trip, with her husband Doug, all the way down from Canada for the finals. Kudos to Bill and Cathy Lambert and trainer Tom Artzer for yet another stakes title win here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Up next for this tremendous greyhound should be a Night of Stars appearance in early July and then on to the James J Patton Silver Cup in August.

A bright future is ahead for this great greyhound. A puppy no more, this greyhound is a stakes winner, and should have a great opportunity to vie for many more here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Race Breakdown 2010 JGR Puppy Stakes

Saturday - 6/5/2010

The finals of the 2010 JGR Puppy Stakes will go to post in the 11th race on the card on Saturday Evening June 5th at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

The top 8 athletes are poised and ready to rock and roll in the final round field. The DQ Williams Kennel leads the way with 3 finalists, but don't count out the defending champs either. B & J has won this race in back to back years and has 2 greyhounds of their own in contention.

Now on to our finalists.

1. Tipsy Brutus W (Tipsy Character - Jetstar Streaker) is a super closer that will be coming off the tailgate again in this effort. He did draw a great post though. He has won 4 of 7 career starts from here and has finished in the money 6 times. If he wants to have a shot at the upset, he needs to break at least a little bit.

2. Playing Amy Song (Golddust Memory - Greys Irish Song) was almost untouchable in the rounds and should be the betting favorite come post time. She is a closer that has been breaking and that is bad news for the competition. With a good post and room early, she is going to be tough to take down in this effort.

3. Smokin Snoopy (Go Joe Jester - Smokin Dizzy) is a solid breaker and rusher that has proved very tough once he gets his nose in front. He won twice in the rounds and likes to run from the inside post positions. Here he is in tough, but one thing I know for sure, the Stacey Blanch Kennel will have him ready to go. They have won the last 2 sprint stakes in a row, tonight it might be a stakes 3 peat.

4. Fth Tiger Lilly (Take It Over - Fth Moon Dancer) wishes she was just a bit more inside in this effort. The 4 box is not bad, but she does prefer the rail. Showing that she has chops like dad, Tiger Lilly wired the field twice in qualifying and is just hoping she can repeat her father's performance in this race. He won the 2008 edition in an all time classic run. Let's see if his first offspring can do him proud.

5. Paddy Whacker (Heart Rumble* - Spicy Candy) is the fastest greyhound in this race and if he can get loose early on, he will not get beat in this effort. Working against him is the post position. He loves it wide and just needed to be a bit more outside in order to really have a great shot at winning this race. He still could pull it off. It's all up to him, if he breaks like it can, this race would be his to lose.

6. Mw Sekhnot (C Ya Costa Maya - Mw Steel Jaw) is still wondering just how he made the finals of this race. This all out puppy has just 12 races under his belt and here he is in with all of these stakes caliber greyhounds. He did earn the right though and has some chops of his own. He doesn't mind it too much out here, he will need to step up his game tonight and use that late speed if he wants to challenge.

7. Leading Steps (Lonesome Cry - Tk Ashira) is a good early speed greyhound that might be saving his best run for the stakes finals. He was the only finalist to not win a round, but his consistency got him into the finals. He didn't have it easy either, he had to compete against all of these greyhounds here throughout the rounds. If he can steal a bunch early on, he might just surprise them all in this effort.

8. La's Silver (Be Discrete - La's Felisha) is a departure from a normal DQ Williams greyhound in that fact that she has all out early speed and very little left at the finish. She is the best breaker in this field and draws a great post on the outside part of the racetrack. Here she is going to get all kinds of room to head to the turn and poke her nose in front early on. The only burning question for her is, can she hold on at the finish line?

Now let's talk about how this race is going to play out. I think that La's Silver bombs to the early lead on again in this effort. She has the best early speed and should be clear as they run to the turn. Playing Amy Song gets room as well when the one dog sits in the starting box and the rail will open up nicely for her to run to the turn. At the first turn, Silver will be in front followed closely by Leading Steps, Smokin Snoopy, Amy Song and Paddy Whacker. Down the backside they head and by the far turn, Silver is still in control but the closers will start to make their run. Leading Steps gets overtaken and starts to drift back. Amy Song will find her other gear and make a bold move late and it should be enough for the win. Silver gets edged out at the finish line and settles for second. Paddy Whacker makes it really interesting as he overcomes the post to challenge and Smokin Snoopy survives in the super. This will be another thriller to watch, so don't miss out. (2-8-5-3)
