Sunday and Monday Matinee saw some great puppy power as three impressive young greyhound posted up some really big efforts.
On Sunday Wp's Clinton did some smooth talking of his own as she surged from the starting box and took command of the grade A field in the 11th race. He never showed any signs of slowing down and even increased his lead a bit at the wire to post up a 3.5 length victory in a speedy 30.44 second romp. That time was not only a personal best, but the fastest on the card as well.
Winning is not new to this puppy though as he posted up back to back 1st place efforts in grade A and he has won 3 of his last 4 trips around the oval. This half brother to Count Ivan, same mother different dad, has things going on and should be ready for a shot at a stakes title, the Jacksonville Juvenile, starting in November.
The puppy heat continued on in the Monday Matinee card as the Family Affair was in full effect for the DQ Williams Kennel. Both Jeans Winningboy and Jeans Hiedi competed in the recent stakes, but both exitied early on with lackluster efforts. Monday I would say that they made up for it just a little bit.
Winningboy, normally a closer, broke way to close early on and took command of the 11th race on the card down the backside. Once in front he just put the hammer down and by the far turn had 4 full lengths on the competition. Coming home he just increased on his margin as he turned in a 7 length romp over a grade A field in the fastest time of the day, 30.49 seconds.
Not to be outdone, his little sister Hiedi, ran just about the same race in the 15th on the card. Ok so she didn't win by 7, just 3.5, but she posted up almost as speedy of a time at 30.58 seconds. She too was close early, took control down the backside, and coasted to the finish line for the win.
The bad news is that both of these littermates already ran in the previous puppy stakes and although neither made the finals, they did run tough thruout the qualifying rounds. So winning top grade is all they have left to prove for the remainder of the year.
Good showing by these talented pups, look out for them in the future at the Orange Park Kennel Club.
