Weekend Update!

Friday - 11/13/2009


As normal we have some great races this weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club, but if you stayed tuned we have some extra distance fun for those loving the longer routes.

Most of the time we gets one added distance race throughout the grade A races on Friday and Saturday evenings, but this time around we get a pair of 660 yard affairs to cap off both of the evenings.

Sprinkled in before that will be our great fields of grade A greyhounds. From the puppies getting ready for the stakes, to the veterans and big names on the circuit, the fields will be competitive and fun to watch.

Starting right off in the 7th race on the card for Friday Evening the old girls and guys get a chance to show that they still have what it takes to win. Citation Cam has won more races here than a bunch of greyhounds and knows how to get to the finish line with the early lead in a race. Breaking from the 1 box she is going to be extra tough, especially since she has decided to start breaking again. Out and gone early on and surviving late for the win. Closing at her thru this entire event will be Deco Daron Hart. Another a little bit long in the tooth greyhound, Daron still has what matters most, HEART! This greyhound gives his all in each and every effort and even though he doesn't win as much as he could, he always is a threat to do so in any race. Here the 5 box is not his friend but know for sure in the stretch, he will be around! Hallo Triple A is another greyhound that has shown several times in the past that he can take home the cheese. Here the outside post might get him clear and if he makes the lead, the race just might be for place tonight. He is extremely tough on top, but if he is not close early, it could be a different story. I go for the earlier not the latter and expect him to factor throughout tonight. Miss Romy is the puppy in the bunch and she is still learning how to get things done against the big boys! Her biggest hurdle here is the post position. She likes it wide and has to make due from the 3 box at the break. Working for her is her late speed! Let's see if she can get close early and drive home to challenge here.

More veterans in race 10 and this pair has some serious closing ability. Pru Whistler has posted up back to back wins and three in her last 5 starts, but all of those efforts came from the inside post positions. Tonight she is starting out in the 6 box and the outcome might be a bit different. She still is the best late speed greyhound in this race and if she decides to come out close once again, this race will be over early on. The Night of Stars XXII winner, Pru gets the hat trick in this effort. Challenging the leader will be T Dizzle and why? The call it the 8 box! She is a whole different greyhound when she starts out wide and if she wants to run, she will be in the thick of things at the finish line. Here she is running off a win, be it a grade B one, but still it came from the same 8 box that she has in this effort. Either way you think it runs, these two are the keys in this effort. Leading the way early might be Cjc's Knock Out. Knock Out has really flashed some early speed in her last couple of races and in turn she has finished well at the wire. She won one race and was beaten by a head in the other by the aforementioned Pru Whistler. With no big early speed greyhound around her, this race is hers to control. Let's see if she can upset the big boys and girls on the front end here. Another greyhound that might get overlooked and needs to be considered is Where's Playpen. This greyhound has been in grade A for 6 races in a row and has finished in the money in 4 of those starts. Not the flashest of greyhounds, she just keeps plugging along and every now and then she sneaks up on everyone and wins one. She is probably the only greyhound in the race that might have a shot at the early lead besides Knock Out, and if she gets there she might have an outside shot tonight. More likely she chases close throughout and gets outfinished in the super, but hey everyone has to dream, don't wreck hers.

Race 11 is a good early speed match up and recent addition Kay Sara Brian gets ready to take on Hanks Diana. Both greyhound can get out of the box in a hurry and can take over a race from the get go, but Brian has just a bit better raw speed and that might be the difference tonight. Brian also gets a great outside post and he should get a clean run to the 1st turn and that could be a difference maker too. Hard to ignore 30.21 which he ran 3 races back. Moving back to 550 in this effort, Brian gets back in the circle. Diana has to be considered here too. No chump, she has won 3 of her last 6 races and finished in the trifecta in 5 of those starts. Her only out was her last race and that came from a similar midtrack post position. Tonight look for her to shake off the rust and get back to basics, BREAKING! If she does fire to the lead, she has the ability to take home the win. Kiowa Vanessa is a solid grade A greyhound that has enough of a late kick to be dangerous in the later stages of this race. She will have to work a bit though as she is WIDE, WIDE, WIDE and will have to make due from the 3 box. Will she be close enough early to have a shot at the leaders before the finish line here? We will have to wait and see. Jayvan is the typical greyhound from the DQ Williams Kennel. A CLOSER! Forget about that late race, that is what I am telling you. It was trouble ridden and doesn't reflect the abilities of this greyhound. Look before and beyond that race. How about 11 races in a row in the money? Or what about 16 of 19 in the superfecta? Sounds good to me and that is just what she did previous to that effort. No problem inside or outside and 7 box will be a fine place to start from. Don't look for her early as she has never held the lead at the 1st turn, but in the stretch she will be a force to be reckoned with. Winning here is a stretch, but under on your wagers, she is pretty much a mainstay.

The first of two 660 yard races on the weekend come in the 15th race for Friday Evening and who leads the way early, none other than Hobo Dan. Ok, ok, ok, I know, I don't know how long he will hold it either, but you have to love the effort. He is a monster on the front end and if keeps breaking he is going to give everything he has all the way until either the finish line or when he gets overtaken. Flanking him are some super closers in this field and if he wants to win he is going to have to steal a ton of lengths early on. Still it's tough to pick against a greyhound that has won 2 races in a row, 3 in his last 4 starts, and beat almost the same exact field in his last effort. Out and gone early, DAN is the MAN again! Now for the closers. They need no introduction. LOL! Guess where 2 of the 3 are from? Got one guess? Yep, DQ Williams and one is even a stakes winner. Racheal Lee won the 2008 James J Patton Marathon and even though this is a shorter distance, she is on the rail and that is always good for her. She has tremendous closing speed and if she gets around cleanly, no lead may be safe in this effort. Look for her to make it interesting, but she might just run out of real estate late like she did in her last effort. On The Fly has really taken to the added distance course and this B & J Runner has not missed the money in any of her 4 660 yard efforts. Her first was the most impressive as she posted a superb 37.73 second run as she won by 9 lengths. The 2 box is not the 8, but still she has been competitive from inside as well. Just look at her last race where she missed Dan by a nose at the wire. Tonight same post, same result? Maybe. Power Exchange is the second from DQ and he too has the closing gene. He has really come into his own over the last couple of months over 660 yards, we just wish he would start to motor a bit earlier in races. He has not enough room at the end of the race and that is why he has not been getting up for the victories. He has, however, finished in the money in 5 of his last 6 races, including starts from the outside part of the racetrack. If he can follow Dan out of the box early, there could be a new Exchange rate on Friday evening.

Saturday - 11/14/2009

Now for the puppies to start making some noise in the 7th race for Saturday Evening at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Leading the way Gm's Cashman. Ok, I know this might be a bit of a stretch against the competition in this field, but everything seems to be falling in place for him in this effort. He gets a post away from the crowd in the 1 box and should get a good clean run to the turn. He has a couple of A's under his best now and knows just what to expect, and he has already shown that he has the speed to compete at this level of competition. He has won almost half of his lifetime starts and rebounded nicely last time out to finish in the money after a rough trip in his previous start. He will have to step up here to win, but I think he breaks, gets to the lead, and has a welcome to the party moment at the finish line. Jean's Heidi will most likely be the favorite to win this race and if she wants to run and puppy might just be in trouble at the finish line. She has tremendous closing ability and will be coming on in a hurry in the stretch once again in this effort. She fell in her last race, so forgetaboutit and move on. Previous she has won twice in her last 5 effort and finished in the trifecta on 4 occasions. Midtrack is almost the rail, LOL!, so whatever she needs to do to contend, she will in this one. Deerfield Moss is the main threat in this effort. He has won several times in grade A on the circuit and knows how to get up in time for the win. Like Heidi, Moss is a closer too and will most likely be making his run at the leaders to vie for the win in the deep stretch again tonight. In his last 6 races he has been in the trifecta 5 times and that is where he will find himself again tonight. Post is a plus, he likes it wide and gets the 7 box here, and it might just be enough to push him over the edge in time if everything else falls into place for him in this effort. Now for the don't forget about me greyhound, Pak Penny Lane. Why? The 1 box of course. This greyhound loves the rail and gets the railest of rail posts in this effort. She might be a little all or nothing, but as of late she has been all a bit more than nothing. Winning 2 of her last 6 races and finished a close 2nd in the other from this very same post position, she has to be considered a factor at least in this race. If she does decide to hit the lid and break away from the field, you might want to back up the wheelbarrows as the tote board might just be lit up like a Christmas Tree at the finish line.

Early speed fest again in the 11th race on the card as the Red hot Kb's Next Level takes on the upstart Where's Lil Tiny in the ankle burner special. Next level certainly gets the nod in this effort as she not only has the all out raw speed advantage, she has post advantage too. She should get a clean run to and thru the 1st turn from the 8 box in this effort. Just look at her lines. She has won 2 races in a row and 3 in her last 4 starts and in each she was long gone in the early stages. Here I don't think she will win for fun and might even have to come from just off the pace to get it done, but she gets it done in time. Where's Lil Tiny has stormed onto the scene with 3 monster races in a row. She won two of those start and was just a head away from the 3 peat. She has blazing early speed and has not been touched from the box to the turn in any of those 3 starts. Breaking from a near midtrack post, she should be the one to catch again in this effort. Oh, and did I mention that her mom is CM LIL BIT? Well I did now so it should not be that much of a surprise on her success. Also trying to throw his hat into the mix early will be recent addition Kiowa Stan Frank. Since arriving he has been a force in the majority of races that he has run in. Breaking is the key to his success and he will need to be close in order to be effective once again tonight. Last time out from this post position, he posted up a win in grade A. If all three of these greyhounds break and clear early, there is going to be a herd at the 1st turn and a battle for the lead and win throughout. Now for the closer! Miss Yue is a strong greyhound that will be coming from off the pace late in this effort. She likes it wide and gets to start out this one from a good almost wide 6 box. Like at DQ greyhounds, she runs her best in the stretch and will show up in this effort. Two starts ago she broke and went untouched for the win, don't expect that here, but she does have enough to factor with the big time early speeders in the stretch. Making it a bit interesting late, she factors in the money once again tonight.

The final race on the card and for the big races from the weekend is the 15th for Saturday evening over the 660 yard course. Yep, the second on the weekend and it is still full of talent. Let's get into it with the 8 greyhound, La's Lucy. Lucy is fitting right in over the 660 yard course as she has been in the money in 5 of her 6 starts and has won twice in very speedy times. She likes it outside and gets the 8 box and that will be enough to get her back into the top spot at the wire tonight. Making her work for it will be Gs Kruz. Kruz has found his break and he has been terrorizing fields on the front end over his last 3 races in a row. Granted he has only won one of those efforts, but they have had to run a huge race to get to him before the finish line. Money should be his name! Since returning to 660 yards in early October, he has not missed the trifecta. Yep, 8 races in a row where he has finished in the top 3 positions at the wire. More of the same tonight. Xtra Style upset everyone in her last race as she decided that she wanted to run and well, everyone else had to settle for a spot behind her at the wire. She has won twice in her last 3 starts and has been in the money in 4 of her last 6 efforts. She has great closing ability and will be showing it off once again in this effort. Breaking from a near rail post in the 3 box, everything is in place for another big effort tonight. Watch out for her in the deep stretch as she tries to get to the leaders again before the wire. Lover Girl Bambi might have faltered in her last race, but previous to that she had won 3 times and was in the quiniela in 5 races in a row from several different post position. Breaking close might held her effort, but she has enough left in the tank in any race to be effective in the stretch too. Her only problem here will be getting to the rail. That is where she really wants to be. If she does break close, she has the ability to win this race. Don't count her out in this effort.

Not only will there be great greyhound racing this weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club, the best of the best, the biggest of the big, and the fastest of the fast will be on hand to compete for victory in their respective races.

Over both 550 and 660 yards, the big names will also be accompanied by some rising stars, and other veterans, that will be looking to take down the superstars before the finish line.

And let's all remember that every DOG has it's day and just because the name might not be recognizable, there is a reason the greyhound is in grade A to start with. The little names must be looked at too if the situation fits, which is could in some of the races this weekend.

Time for the first race of the series and it comes on Friday evening in the 7th on the card. This race should be a highly contested event with loads of evenly matched up greyhounds sprinting out and to the first turn, but it will be hard to pick against Deerfield Can. Can has won 2 races in a row and draws another favorable post position tonight near the rail. His break has been the key to his success and it should come out running once again in this effort. If he can make the front, it's going to be a 3-peat tonight. Upstart Sobe Cream Puff might have gotten creamed in her first effort in grade A, but she was in ultra tough. Tonight the field might be a bit more to her liking and the 4 box is at lease a bit closer to the rail than the 5 was last time out. Breaking well will be the key to this puppies success too. We know she has the skills to win at this level, she just needs to show up and prove it against the best at the racetrack. Speaking of showing up, you never have to worry about this next guy! Cjc's Buckshot gives his all in each and every effort and will do so again in this race. With 6 races in a row in the trifecta in grade A, you know just what you are going to get, but winning might be another story. He has only taken home the top spot in 1 of those races, and that was 3 races ago. We all know he has the talent to win this effort, he just needs to get out of the box a bit better to get it done. If he waits too long early on, he will just be closing late for another in the money finish. Jayvan is the other strong closer in this field and like Buckshot, she too will be coming on in a hurry in the stretch. The post is not the best, but if she can get inside just a bit, it really won't matter all that much. Over her last 6 races she has not missed the money and has taken home victories on 2 occasions. If the mood suits her, she too could take home the victory in this effort.

Race 10 is the match-up of the whole weekend. If you can see just one race, this one is the one to catch. Talk about a match-up! It might was well be a match race, or a stakes final! Recent 50 race winner Count Ivan gets to take on the ultra dangerous Ru Tuff Enuf. As always, there are fans in each camp and if either one of them decides to run his race, either one could put a hurting on the other. Recently Ivan has had the upper edge. He has won 5 of 6 starts including a run of 4 in a row, and did I mention that he has been doing it from behind too? Growing up at the right time, Ivan gets the slight edge in my book. Now don't discount Tuff Enuf though. Sure he might run hot and cold at times, but when he is on, he is burning, scalding, surface of the sun, hot! Just look at his last two wins. Ok, I know they were 5 races apart, but you can't ignore 30.29 and 30.32 se3conds. Bother of those times blow by anything Ivan has but up in his last 6 trips and just proves what he can do in the open. Both greyhounds are posted up well and if they both come out running, this could be a battle royal from start to finish. Others to play on the undercard would have to be the impressive puppy Fay's Fonda and Kiowa Stan Cay. Fonda might not be winning a ton of races, but he is around throughout in almost all of the ones that he runs in. He has not missed the money in 6 races in a row in grade A and with a strong rail post tonight, I expect more of the same. I don't see an upset, but in the money, third best, yep! Stan might have not looked all that great in his last couple of efforts, but previous to that he had been in the quiniela in 4 races in a row. Post will be his biggest hurdle in this race, but if Tuff Enuf breaks, he will have all kinds of room to get to the turn. Another greyhound that is not all the flashy, but effective, so consider him in the second half of your tickets tonight.

Post will make the difference in the 11th race on the card as Bl Punch N Judy is a rail running machine. From the one box this greyhound is MONEY! She has won 4 of her 7 starts and has yet to finish out of the top 4 positions. Breaking and running well as of late, she has 5 of 6 in the trifecta, tonight she gets back winning from this ultimate post position. Fth Keystone Kid is no slouch herself and I think she is getting tired of finishing second. She was just about to win in her last two races in a row and then that darn Kiowa Swizzle had to go and run her down for the win. No Swizzle here and that might just be all she needs to take home a win in this effort. Ok, the outside post should help too, but talent is all she need and trust me when I say she has that. With 4 of her last 6 efforts in the trifecta from similar post positions, expect more of the same tonight. Deerfield Moss is a super closer that is going to be coming on strong at the end of this race to challenge. He can pick up the best of them is he is close enough early, and even if he breaks slowly, he can still run down some on the late lead. Like his counterparts he has been hot as of late with 5 efforts in a row in the money. That run includes 2 wins but both of those came from the far outside post position. Can the early speed hold throughout, or will the closer get to everyone before the finish line? THAT is Moss's big question that he needs to answer tonight. Where's Playpen is another good early speed greyhound that should be pushing the pace throughout in this effort. She has not missed the trifecta in 6 races in a row and comes into this effort with a win in her last race in grade A. She has not made the front in any of those starts and has been running tough without the lead for over a month. The 8 box will not be her friend in this race as she would much rather be inside, but if she can stalk early, she should be able to hold tough throughout and find a spot in the superfecta again at the finish line.

Capping off the evening is another 550 yard race and in the 15th the fastest greyhound ever at the Orange Park Kennel Club straps on the muzzle and looks for yet another win. Kiowa Swizzle is getting better with age and the scary thing is that he is learning how to win races without the front end. He has posted up wins in 5 of his last 6 efforts and he has come from off the pace to win his last two races in a row. Here is starts out from his favorite post position, the 8 box, and it should be off to the races early on. The real question in this race is who is going to run second? Well there are plenty of closer to fill that role, but I'll go with the only other somewhat early speed greyhound. Uss Fine Touch is still a bit of a closer, but she does break better then than majority of this field. Working in her favor tonight is the one box. She should get a clean lane to the turn tonight and that will go a long way to help her in this effort. She is running hot too, with 3 wins in her 6 straight trifecta finishes, the pedal is to the metal in again in this effort. Now on to the duo that will be coming from nowhere to challenge for next best in this effort. Just Say So and Deco Daron Hart are both big time finishers that have loads of experience and talent behind each and every one of their makeup steps. Either one of these two could upset, if they could ever get out of the starting box, but I don't think tonight is that night. Say So gets the slight edge due to post position and back to back winning efforts from way behind early on, but let's not leave out the veteran. he has been no slouch with 3 efforts in a row in the superfecta and a win 5 races back in impressive fashion. Locking up late, the best part of the race to watch tonight might just be the stretch run.

Saturday - 10/24/2009

Now the 7th race for Saturday evening might not have the name power as the rest of them, but it is still a highly competitive race and should be a fun one to watch. Anyone might have a shot at taking home the victory here, so let's go with our best guess. Gs Craig leads the way and even though it have been awhile since he has posted up a win, he has been high competitive in his last 5 races in a wow. He has not missed the superfecta in any of those race and that includes a run of 4 races in a row where he finished 2nd at the wire. Post is not an issue with him here and it's time to get off the snide and get up for the win tonight. Kiowa Vanessa has a similar take with red hot running, but she gets the added bonus of a great post position to break from. She likes it wide and has flourished in the past from this very post. Her last win came from the 6 box and she backed that up with another in the money effort in her next effort. She has the skills to win and if she gets loose early on, they all might be trying to get to her before the finish line. La's Butch is back in grade A and although he is not his brother, ANTHONY, he does have some chops of his own, especially from the rail post positions. Tonight he starts out in the 2 box and that is close enough for him to be effective. Like other DQ greyhounds, he is mainly a closer that can get close on occasion and take home an easy win. With a pair of wins and 3 trifecta efforts in his last 5 races, he must be considered a threat tonight from this great starting box. Ctw Anti Gravity might be moving back to grade A in this effort, but don't let the lower lines fool you. She can hang with the best of them and has done some in several races. Tonight from the outside, she should get a clean run to the turn and that might be all she needs to surprise the field in this effort. Besides, did you look at the lines she ran before getting back to A? They are pretty strong, 3 in a row in the trifecta! Rested and ready to romp, she plays a big role in the outcome of this race tonight.

Now for the big brother! La's ANTHONY is back in grade A and back winning at the Orange Park Kennel Club. This greyhound is a monster on the front end and that is just where he is going to be at the start of this race. He has extra room early on with the 4 box and with 3 wins in his last 4 races he seems like the logical choice to win, but not so fast my friend says Hanks Diana. She is also a breaker and has won back to back races in grade A in her last 2 efforts. The only drawback for her here is the post position. She likes it nearer the rail than the 6 box, but if she breaks it really won't matter all that much. If she can clear with Anthony to the turn, it is going to be quite a race to witness. Hallo Mr Great is also an early speed greyhound in a good post, but he is way too short at the end of the race to steal away the victory. But that is not the end of the story for him. He has enough early to get into contention with the leaders and once he is hanging around, he normally does it all the way to the finish line. He has been in the superfecta in 4 races in a row and tonight the trend doesn't stop. Look for another strong stalking effort throughout as he continues the streak. Fay's Redford needs to be close early on in order to be effective, and frankly I don't know if tonight is the night or not. When she is on, she is a handful, but when she is off, she is not going to threaten anyone for a money position. Just look at her lines and you will see just what I mean. She has finished in the trifecta in 3 of her last 6 efforts and in each of those starts she was in contention early on as they ran to the first turn. Helping her tonight is the post positions as she likes to race wide and the 7 box is far enough outside in order to be effective tonight.

Capping off the evening in the final race on the card is a great 660 yard affair where early meets late speed. Clearly Kiowa Deli Dee is going to be in the early lead in this race, but can she steal enough early and get some help behind in order to win? NO! The Power is changing hands here, ok well EXCHANGEing hands. Power Exchange is in the one box and that really is all you need to know in this race. He is a monster from the inside and like most DQ greyhounds he can come from off the pace and get the job done in the stretch. Don't look for him to be 3 in front or anything, but in the stretch he will prove best in this effort. Now on to his kennelmate, Love Girl Tiffy. Tiffy is back! She has started to break again and when this greyhound is close early, she is tough to keep out of the winner's circle. She has won back to back races in close fashion and took down all 4 of the top competitors in this race in their last effort together. Tonight she puts up another strong bid, just a bit short of the win at the finish line. Gs Kruz is back here too and even though he might not make the lead, he will be a force to be reckoned with in this effort. Why? He loves this starting box. Every time he starts out in the 8 box, he is a threat and if you don't believe me, just look at his lines. He has not missed the money in his last 4 efforts from the outside post position. Look for him to factor in every step he takes tonight. Now back to Deli Dee. In the lead in 5 of her last 6 races, so you know where to find her early on in this one, in front! But she has only won 1 of those starts, so weakening in the stretch is what she is going to do again in this race. She is short, but not short enough to finish out of the money. She has been there in 7 races in a row and 10 of her last 11 starts. If she can get some help behind early, she might have a chance to hold on at the wire for the upset tonight!

DURABILITY

Gm's Michelle (Rapido Rambo-Everlastingbliss) is the model of DURABILITY, and all you have to do to realize this is look at her lines.

After racing at several greyhound ractracks, Gm's Michelle has just vaulted over the 300 start line. Her last effort was the 301 in her career, with the majority of those starts coming at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

What might even be more impressive is that only 6 of her 199 races at the Orange Park Kennel Club were run over the longer distances. That's right she runs mostly over 660 and 770 yards and most of the time she has been competing against the best greyhounds at the racetrack.

Currently she is in grade C, but she has won in grade A and gave fits to several greyhounds throughout in her great career.

The good news is that she is not done yet. She still is a strong factor in almost all of her races and even though she is approaching her 6th, yes that is right, birthday, she still has the moves of a young pup.

Experience, durability, and determination are 3 good words to sum up this fantastic greyhound.

Weekend Recap

Friday was a hot night for the DQ Williams Kennel as they posted up 4 wins on the card. Puppies Bad For Ya and Miss Sylvie both showed up early on to start out the night right and then it was left up to the veterans. Casual Country was in grade D and we all know what happened when she made the lead, game over, and Jeans Hiedi posted up her second win in a row in grade A.


Lester Raines was not going to be outdone that much though, he too had a solid night. He won three races but what made them all the more impressive was that they we all in grade A. Uss Out Of Sight, Fay's Redford, and Rooftop Queen B, all ruled over their 550 yard fields to win.

On Saturday the torch moved kennels and the hot hands were the B & J Racing Kennel, in the matinee, and the PTL Kennel in the evening.

B& J put up 4 wins on the board with Packer Backer, Monster puppy Wp's Rosewood, Grade A winner Hanks Diana, and On The Fly.

PTL won 5 races on the night with the help of a few Sunsand greyhounds, namely Sallymay, Scoobie and Fannymay. The other two winners were M's Johnwilliams and Cajun Gusto.

Sunday was a different kind of story as the kennels might have cooled off a bit, but the big time names didn't disappoint.

After a few lackluster efforts, Ru Tuff Enuf decided that he wanted to run and simple destroyed the field in the process. Out and gone early on he won by 7.5 lengths and posted up the fastest time of the weekend at 30.32 second.

Kiowa Swizzle also won his race, and even though it wasn't all that fast a time, he did it from off the pace. Now that is a big effort for a greyhound that normally wants the lead alone to show his stuff.

Other notables were Just Say So and Kiowa Kay Wilbur who both made their way back to the grade A ranks with wins.
