Quarter-Finals of the Orange Park Derby runs on Friday Evening!

Friday - 1/29/2010

The field has been chopped and the competition has gotten tougher in the quest for the crown in the 2010 Orange Park Derby.

Everyone left in the stakes has finished in the money in at least one round and a third of the field has won a round during the stakes competition.

Two greyhounds still rank among the untouched, La's Lucy and Bad For Ya, and since they drew in different races, we might be heading into the semi-finals.

Three great races of stakes racing action is ready to head your way on Friday Evening at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

The excitement begins in the 7th race on the card.

1. Rays Taxman (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has not missed the quiniela since jumping over to 660 and even though he has been short, he has won a couple of times. A big break will be need to keep up the pace.

2. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) has closed well in both of the rounds and gets another favorable post. Coming on strong in the stretch, he should factor again with the leaders at the finish line.

3. Rachel Lee (Get Over - Nothing But Fine) is the best closer in the field, but needs to step it up if she wants to move on further in this event. The only stakes winner, knows how to do it, it's now or never.

4. Eds Go For It (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) is a solid chaser that has fared well so far in the stakes. She's not be a threat to win in every start, but she is a solid competitor. Last time in the 4 box, she won.

5. Kiowa Trent Tovi (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) has closed well in both of his efforts over 660 in the stakes and will need it to continue here. The 5 box away from the rail will be his biggest hurdle tonight.

6. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) won't have her beloved one box to fall back on in this effort. She will need to make her own way around the racetrack. I expect another qualify effort.

7. On The Fly (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) will be closing throughout as she normally does at either distance. She has competed well in each effort and looks to make her 2nd stakes final in a row.

8. Xtra Style (Kl's Doug - Exceptional Bid) is riding high off a huge win in her last effort. Another outside post gets her around the turn and it should allow her to contend in the stretch again in this effort.

At the break Rays Taxman should bomb to the lead once again, especially from the one box. Following him closely will be Eds Budby and Kiowa True Love, if she can get to the rail. Taxman should be able to hold the front end to the far turn or so, but this is where it is going to get interesting. Did he steal enough early to hold everyone at bay late? Or, did the closers break and are too close for him to get home a winner? I'll take the ladder as Eds Budby drives by in the stretch to steal away the win just ahead of Kiowa True Love and Taxman. Everyone better be wary of the best closer in the field, Xtra Style, especially after he woke up and won in impressive fashion his last effort. (2-6-1-8)

The second of three on the card will take place in the tenth race.

1. Cjc's Smoothmove (Pacific Mile* - Gable Ruth) is a strong closer that has made up ground in each and every start over 660 yards in the stakes. If he wants to gain more points, he must be closer early on.

2. Nj's Jax Ina Box (Teamster - Nanot Baby Karen) needs to get back to her break and butter in this effort. BREAKING! She needs a big effort and a bunch of points to move on in the stakes. Post a plus!

3. Kiowa Uzzia (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) loves racing at this distance and has enough late speed to contend with whomever in the stretch. Never give up, never surrender again in this one.

4. Gabe Candice (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) closed well in the first round, but ran into trouble in the second. She need as the points she can muster in this effort. Her best shot at the leaders is late.

5. Rays My Girl (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has to get out of the box and the 5 box is really working against her. She has shown closing speed over 660 yards, but has not run like she has in the past. Wake up time.

6. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) he is unbeaten in the stakes and has never run out of the quiniela in any race over 660 yards. He is the one to beat again and this field is going to be hard pressed to do it.

7. Power Exchange (Craigie Whistler - Aunt Redmoon) has run better at 660 than he has shown in the stakes. He has not run bad, but he has not set the world on fire either. A big break would help here.

8. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) is tough when she can get out of the starting box and close to the early leader in the race. Without that, she is just another chaser. Tonight she needs to break!

Herman's Hermits time in the 10 race. SECOND VERSE SAME AS THE FIRST! Bad For Ya is going to break out fast in this race and take early command. He will control this one from box to wire to remain undefeated in the stakes as he wins his 7th race in 9 starts. After him is where it gets interesting. Closers abound and just who will steal away the next best title at the finish line. Kiowa Uzzia will make a strong case if he keeps up the good work. Cjc's Smoothmove also has a shot from the 1 box. She has been successful in the past from this box and will work it to her best ability in this round. Power Exchange maybe the forgotten one in this effort. As the only other greyhound with some semblance of early speed in this race, he might be close enough early to hold off the rest for place at the wire. However it plays out, Bad For Ya on top, and then the rest. (6-3-1-7)

The final stakes event on the card comes in the 11th race.

1. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) has loads of early speed and bolted away to a big lead last time out and survived late for the coasting win. The one box is a bonus, and might help the upset.

2. La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) has found her break and clearly is the one to beat again in this race. She has the best time in the stakes with her 7.5 length win last time out. One word, UNDEFEATED!

3. Se's We Going Too (P's Skidway - We Goin Sizzler) would much rather be outside in this race. She has closed well in the stakes though and will need to again tonight if she wants to move on in the stakes.

4. Holly Noelle (Cricket Express - Solitary Camile) needs to forget the last trouble ridden race and start off a new streak in this effort. She can do it on the lead or from behind. Time for her to show her skills.

5. Comedrinkwithme (Dauntless - Instant Vintage) might just be figuring it all out now! He ran the best race of his career at 660 in the 2nd round, and looks to expand on that race. The drawback here, 5 box.

6. Eds Joy Of Pride (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) isn't going to dazzle anyone with a tremendous effort, but she is a solid competitor and can factor in the money in every race. More of the same here.

7. Rays Finishline (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has shown good early speed in both rounds and has turned one of those efforts into a win. He will contend early, but the stretch is another question mark.

8. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is just like his brother, a good early speed threat over 660. He too is a bit short in the stretch and should be again in this effort. If he wants to contend, he must break.

This race is going to be highly contested from the box to the wire. We have loads of early speeders and it is going to get congested early on in this effort. One thing I do know is that La's Lucy is undefeated. She has the best time so far, and she can win from off the pace too. Even if they do beat her to the lead in this race, all of the rest of them are short in the stretch, she is not! So whatever she has to do in this race, she does to stay unblemished in the Derby. Ray's Finishline, Uss Fine Touch, and Rays Scout, will all come out running in this effort and will factor on or near the early pace in this race. How long they last? Who might upset? I don't know, but it will be an exciting race to watch early on. If there is trouble behind, someone might just sneak off with a victory tonight. (2-7-1-8)

Results Round 2 Orange Park Derby

DQ Duo Remain Undefeated in Derby

The beat rolled on Monday Evening as the Dynamic Duo from the DQ Williams Kennel continued to dominate as they press on for the finals and chance to repeat as winners for the second year in a row.

The only difference this time out, La's Lucy was the queen of the hill and Bad For Ya had to settle for the second best winning effort on the card.

Lucy exploded from the starting box and drove to the inside part of the racetrack from her 8 box starting position. She was in instant command of this effort and frankly was never in question. She was pressed really early by Where's Big Papa, but he faded way back out of contention. As the race went on, she just got further and further away from the competition. She crossed the finish line all alone and 7.5 lengths clear of her nearest competitor. Her 37.38 second clocking was the best so far in the stakes and if she keeps breaking and running like this, they are going to be hard pressed to beat her. Next best was first round winner Eds Budby and the every closing Racheal Lee completed the trifecta.

Bad For Ya might not have looked quite as impressive as he did in the first round, but he still won in fine fashion to remained unbeaten in the 2010 Orange Park Derby. At the break Rays Scout came to run and broke stride for stride with Bad For Ya. This pair traded the lead back and forth all the way to the backside, but this is where the game changed. Bad for Ya had enough of the challenge and drove hard to take command of this race. He looked very determined on the lead as he coasted after the bunny and was really in a zone all by himself. Kiowa True Love finished a strong 2nd after a great trip and the aforementioned Rays Scout settled for show.

The Lester Raines Kennel matched DQ on this evening with a pair of second round winners of their own. Veteran Xtra Style got back into the winner's column as well and the recent convert Uss Fine Touch. Even though they might have gotten it done in different manners, the both looked quite impressive in their victories.

Xtra Style showed that great closing ability in her victory in the 9th race on the card. She broke well and was way too close early on, and as normal, that meant bad news for the early leaders in this race. Rays Taxman was cruising on the early lead, but that was only going to last for so long. The far turn was redemption time for Style. With a mighty surge she bolted right by the leader and took over as the one to beat as they headed for the stretch. From that point it really was not a contest. She drove away from the field and crossed the finish line 6 lengths clear of the competition. Taxman won the photo for place as Eds Joy Of Pride and Kiowa Unnat just missed out in 3rd and 4th position at the wire.

Uss Fine Touch might have lost the lead in her last effort, but tonight she decided early on that it wasn't going to happen to her twice in a row. She rushed to grab command of this race in the early turn and stole away enough of a lead early on to hold the closers at bay in the stretch for the victory. She was never really in question though as she had 2 lengths to play with at the finish line. Some big time races were run behind her. On The Fly worked thru early traffic to get clear and close from 4th all the way to challenge in place and Cjc's Smoothmove did a similar job from even further back to finish 3rd.

The remaining winner in the stakes was Rays Finishline. This Connell entry is one of a group of brothers and sisters competing in this stakes race. All are in grade A and all seem to be able to compete at 550 and 660 yards. Finishline was the only winner for them in this round, but Rays Taxman won in round 1, and Rays Scout and Taxman have been the money throughout this stakes event. All seem to be a bit short at the end of the race and that played out in this effort too. Rays Finishline broke extremely well and stole away about 3 lengths on the rest of the field in the early stages. He was going to need every inch of that lead by the far turn. Comedrinkwithme had closed up on the leader and was shadowing his every move as they headed out of the far turn and down the stretch. This pair dueled all the way to the finish line, but no matter how hard Drinkwithme tried he just couldn't get past the leader before the wire. Rays Finishline survived for the win and Comedrinkwithme had to settle for second. In a photo for show, Kiowa Uzzia outshined Eds Go For It at the wire.

Even though the field has gotten shorter for the quarter-finals, the action will be tougher in the third round with three exciting races scheduled for Friday Evening January 29th at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Both DQ entries drew different races, so there could be 2 undefeated greyhounds after 3 rounds if they can do it again. Plan to come out and watch live or catch the great stakes on Jaxkennel.com.

Orange Park Derby Round 2 Perview

Monday - 1/25/2010

DQ showed in the 1st round that they mean business and are looking to try and repeat as champions again this year, but there were some other big time efforts on the card too.

The second round gets underway on Monday Evening January 25th as all 5 races full of greyhounds return to compete for the points and a chance to move on to the quarter-finals of the Orange Park Derby.

The fun starts off in the 5th race on the card and despite that fact that there are no 1st round winners here, this race is going to be competitive.

1. Kiowa Fuzzy Fern (Fuzzys Cannon - Kiowa More Money) is all about the 1 box and that is the post that she draws in this race. The lights are always on from here, so forget the lines and look for a big effort.

2. Gabe Candice (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) this ship in has taken well to 660 at Orange Park and looked strong closing from the rail in the 1st round. This post will aide her in this effort.

3. Where's Finalhit (Flying Penske - Finaldestination) is really going to have to step up his game here if he wants to move one. A key point to watch is if he can find his break and get out of the box tonight.

4. On The Fly (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) is a solid threat at either distance in any race and that is just what you are going to get again here. The post is not the best, if she wants to run, watch out!

5. Power Exchange (Craigie Whistler - Aunt Redmoon) didn't factor in the first round and will have to catch up in points tonight from a tough post. He will need to come out running to compete for the win.

6. Uss Fine Touch (Uss Raceway - Uss Glimmer) no one beats this greyhound to the lead in this race, but in the end several will beat her to the wire. She is short in the stretch and will need to help behind her.

7. Jjb Good As Gold (Lonesome Cry - Joe's My Man) might be a bit over his head still, but if he can find a way to get out of the box well, he might have an outside shot at making it into the money here.

8. Cjc's Smoothmove (Pacific Mile* - Gable Ruth) is a big time closer that needs to be closer early on tonight. A 4th place finish was ok, but he is capable of much better. He needs a big effort in this one.

At the break Uss Fine Touch will steal the early lead in this race. This greyhound exploded from the box in her last race and that is the spot she takes again tonight. I think she can hold the lead to the far turn, but that is where the closers will come a calling for her. Leading the charge will be Kiowa Fuzzy Fern. Forget the lines and remember the post! This greyhound runs her best from the rail and tonight is the night to show up and win. Cjc's Smoothmove is also a strong closer that will picking them up late to challenge for the victory. Her outside post will help her get around cleanly and that will be all she needs to compete. Another greyhound to consider is Gabe Candice. She too has great closing ability and will be flying up in the stretch to challenge. If any of these greyhounds get too close too soon, they have the ability to race off alone late for an easy victory. (1-8-6-2)

Up next is the 7th race on the card and another on the card where some greyhound will win their first in the stakes.

1. Comedrinkwithme (Dauntless - Instant Vintage) looked short in his last race even though both his parents loved the added distances. The one box should help him. Let's see what he can do tonight.

2. Eds Go For It (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) showed good closing ability in round one and threatened the winner in the deep stretch. With a good post draw, she should contend again.

3. Wp's Rainbow (Maryville Rumble* - Icu Greta) needs to get out of the starting box! This greyhound showed in the past that she can run this far, but she needs to start off on the right foot with the lead.

4. Git N Moody (Ww Apple Jax - Sunsands Lilgirl) also needs to find a way to come out running in this effort. When he is close early he can run tough, but the 4 box might hinder him a bit in this one.

5. Never Relinquish (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) is a real question mark in this race. This greyhound could win this effort, or not show up at all. If she wants to run, everyone pay attention.

6. Kiowa Uzzia (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) is the only true grade A greyhound in the field. He has been running against the best and running tough. This race might be time for him to shine.

7. Gold Charlot (Jimbo Acorn - Abita Kim) is out of his league against the stakes competition. His only chance to compete here would be if he could steal away the early lead from the rest of the field.

8. Rays Finishline (My Judge - Ivyona Star) showed great early speed in the 1st round but was extremely short at the end of the race and finished out of the money. Here he will need some help behind him.

From the start the Rays Finishline should make the early lead in this race. He is not going to be able to hold it throughout though. He looked really short late in the 1st round and there are some good closers behind him once again tonight. Eds Go For It is probably the one to steal away the win in the stretch. This greyhound was flying last time out for second and tonight he should get it done. Kiowa Uzzia has the class edge over the rest of the competitors in this field. Even though he has no wins showing, tonight be the night for his break thru victory. Let's not forget Never Relinquish. This puppy stakes finalist seems to step up when she has to and tonight might just be that night in this stakes event. She has won over here before and holds the quickest trip of any of the greyhounds in this field. If she gets loose and wants to run, this race might just be over in a hurry. (2-6-8-5)

The 9th race on the card might seem like a one greyhound race, but you never know just what is going to happen in the stakes rounds.

1. Rays Taxman (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is heading into this race with back to back wins. He is the only first round winner in this race and has enough early speed to wire this field. Did I say 1 box? Now I did!

2. Eds Joy Of Pride (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) likes the rail and gets a bit closer in this race with the 2 box. He needs to step up his effort here and find some of that closer speed he had in the past.

3. Kiowa Unnat (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) needs to forget his last effort. He broke slowly and ran into early trouble. If he gets back to breaking close, he should get back to contending tonight.

4. Nj's Jax Ina Box (Teamster - Nanot Baby Karen) is a dangerous factor. Sure her lines might not show it, but she has wired some the best over 660 yards in the past. If she hits the lid, it could be all over here.

5. Xtra Style (Kl's Doug - Exceptional Bid) is a stakes veteran that can come from off the tailgate late in races to get up at the wire for the win. The best closer in this field might have something to say late.

6. What A Charmer (San Tan Riffraff - Majestic Angle) is the half brother to last year's winner Penny Candy. He needs a big effort here if he wants to show that family pride in the 2010 Orange Park Derby.

7. Crazy Camden (Dodgem By Design - Remember My Mom) needs to find her break if she is going to have a chance to compete in this race. The 7 box is not in her favor either, but a big break erases that.

8. Circuit City Cat (Fuzzys Braxton - R's Flaming Fury) has shown some bit time skills in the past and will need them again in this effort tonight. Getting out of the box is the most important part of her game.

Flying out of the starting box will be Rays Taxman. This greyhound has gotten stronger over the distance in each of his starts and the one box will just add to it in this effort. No one gets to him before the finish line as he three-peats in this effort. Several will try though including the best closer in this field, Xtra Style. She will get Style point for her bold late effort tonight, but I think it will be just a little too late for a win. Kiowa Unnat should shake off that last effort and come back contending in this one. With just one early speed greyhound around, he should be close early on and that formula has worked for him in the past. Upset minded, he might have an outside shot in this one. What A Charmer needs to get around the racetrack untouched in this race. If he can get room to run, he has enough left at the end of the race to challenge the winner as they approach the finish line. This newcomer is still figuring things out of this distance and if the lights flip on, he has the ability to steal away a win in this effort. (1-5-3-6)

Race 11 has the BADDEST of the BAD ready to take on the competition and show them just what he can do around the 660 yard oval.

1. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) draws the 1 box for the third straight race. She loves wearing red and is a force when she does. Tonight you get more of the same, a challenger!

2. Gabe Abbot (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) lines might not look that great but don't count this greyhound out. This shipper from Wheeling Downs has won in the past and could again in this one.

3. Gs Ashlynn (Rapido Rambo - Gm's Cutie) has started to figure this whole 660 yard this out and that is good news for her and bad news for the competition. If she can break well again, she will contend.

4. Lph Shy Miss (Teamster - Doyabelieveinluv) is a good early speed greyhound that hasn't been getting out of the starting box very well as of late. If she wants to factor here, she needs to hit the lid again.

5. Se's We Goin Too (P's Skidway - We Goin Sizzler) closed well in the 1st round of the stakes, but is more inside in this effort. She will need to get room early if she wants to be effective tonight.

6. Lover Girl Bambi (Get Over - Dave's Lovergirl) is a long way from the rail and that might be her undoing again in this effort. She was a finalist last year, but will need to step it tonight to move on.

7. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) was the best of the best in round one and looks to continue his hot run. With or without the early lead in this race, he is the one to beat in this race.

8. Rays Scout (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has loads of early speed and was just edged out in the 1st round of the stakes. Here he might make the lead once again, but the question is, can he hold on to it late.

No big surprise in this effort. From the box Bad For Ya and Rays Scout will battle for the early lead in this race. This could go on for a while, but sooner or later the raw speed of Bad For Ya will take over and once that happens, race over. Bad For Ya will draw away and coast home to remain undefeated in the stakes. Scout should be able to hold on for place, but will be challenged by a couple of others. Kiowa True Love will give another strong effort from her best starting box. She loves that red dress and really shines on the red carpet when wearing it. Tonight the spotlights are one and she will show up and dazzle. Gs Ashlynn has to get a look to as she has been breaking much better and has competed well in her last two efforts in a row. The 3 box might be hindrance in this effort, but if she comes out close it won't matter that much. The break well be her true test in this one. (7-8-1-3)

Saving the best for last the 14th and final race on the card has three first round winners locking up in true stakes racing action.

1. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) ran a huge race in round one to steal away the win in the stretch. Here he needs his A game again if he wants to outdo the other winners in this race.

2. Kiowa Trent Tovi (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) is figuring out the 660 yard course and another rail post will go a long way in helping him factor once again. He can run this far and compete against these.

3. Holly Noelle (Cricket Express - Solitary Camile) is the hottest greyhound running over 660 yards right now. She has won 3 races in a row. From the lead or from off the pace, she is a threat in any race.

4. Rays My Girl (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has run more than just 2 races over 660 and has shown good closing speed in the past. If she can break a little better in this race, she might have a shot near the line.

5. Racheal Lee (Get Over - Nothing But Fine) is a stakes winner that needs to show what she can do in a race. She is way the class of this field, but she needs let everyone else know. Tonight is statement time!

6. Where's Big Papa (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) should be an early factor in this race and he will give his all for as long as he can. He is short at the end of the race and will be again tonight in this one.

7. Kiowa Vic (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a long way from the rail and that is going to hurt his chances in this effort. He here he does what he always does, factor from the box to the wire.

8. La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) woke up in the 1st round and put a hurtin on the field that she ran against. All she has to do is break and it should be back to back wins. This race is hers to lose.

With three winners of the first round this gets a bit interesting, but I think the class of the winners is La's Lucy. She has won several races in grade A over 660 and even though it has been a while since she has dominated, she seemed to channel it in round one. With no speed around her, she should be out and gone early on tonight. Upstart Holly Noelle has really started to make a statement for herself as of late you can't ignore the 3 wins in a row showing. She has enough early to get around the lead and should factor for the duration of this race. Eds Budby ran a huge race in the 1st round of the stake and I wonder if he has 2 in him or not. The post is not going to help either as he seems to run much better from the outside of the racetrack. He will need a repeat performance to be around at the finish line tonight. I would be amiss not to include the only distance stakes winner in the entire field. Racheal Lee has all the tools, talent, and drive to paste this field if she sees fit. She is the best closer in the bunch and all she has to do is get somewhat close at the start of this event. If she wants to run, everyone will be in trouble tonight. (8-3-1-5)

The third round will run on Friday Evening January 29th at the Orange Park Kennel Club. As the field is cut down the action gets hotter. Join us then for more exciting stakes racing!

Results for Round 1 Orange Park Derby

DQ's Dynamic Duo Dominate

Last year's winner, the DQ Williams Kennel, hopes to retain the crown in 2010 and if the first round was any indication, everyone better watch out.

The best two performances on the card belonged to them as the big dogs made some noise in the first round of the Orange Park Derby.

Pre-race favorite Bad For Ya got back into the winner's circle in a big way in the 1st round with an impressive win. He bolted from the starting box to the early lead and never looked back. He was in complete control of this race, and crossed the finish line 8.5 lengths clear of the competition in the quickest time on the card, 37.68 seconds. With this effort he has won 5 of his 7 starts over 660 yards and has never finished worse than second.

Not to be outdone, La's Lucy also put up a gem that saw her score a first round victory too. This was nice to see after a long hiatus from the top spot at the wire. Back in early December she looked like she was the one to beat for this stakes title as she was riding high on a five race win streak, but since she had been frankly up and down in the majority of her races. In this one she showed everyone just what she can do. She broke quickly from the starting box and took early command over the field. Once in front she was off to the races and coasted to the wire 5.5 lengths ahead of the competition.

DQ were not the only winners on the card though, three other races were won by Eds Budby from the Crowe Kennel, Rays Taxman from the Connell Kennel and Holly Noelle from the B & J Kennel.

Eds Budby ran a tremendous race to take home the 1st round victory. He broke close and ran a huge front stretch to get into contention by the escape turn. From that point on he just continued to close on the leader and even though he was crowded on the rail in the far turn, he drove away from the field late to posted up the 4 length victory at the longest odds of any winner in the stakes.

Rays Taxman posted up his second win in a row over the 660 yard course with a win in the 1st round of the stakes. He looked stronger in this effort than he did last time out and if he keeps it up, it could take him a long way in this stakes. Here he broke well and stalked the pace all the way to the far turn, and that is where he made his move. He circled around the leader and took command down the stretch. He had greyhounds coming behind him, but he held tough late and secured the win at the finish line.

Holly Noelle might not be a household name, but everyone better pay attention to this little girl. The light bulb has come on at the right time and this win was her 3 in a row, and her 4th in 6 starts, over the 660 yard course. What might be even more impressive is how she is winning races . She has won them on the front end in the past, and in the 1st round, she came from off the pace to get it done at the wire. She has really stepped it up at the right time and could be a major force as the stakes continues on.

Second round action heads your way Monday Evening at the Orange Park Kennel Club. All the greyhounds return, as the battle for a spot in the next round.

Great Weekend On Tap at the OPKC!

Friday - 1/15/2010

With the Orange Park Derby right around the corner, this weekend we have a pair of great distance races to go along with our pair of sprint events.

All have some fantastic greyhounds getting ready to compete, and what makes them even more compelling is that fact that we gets to see the old with the new.

Both 660 yard races have greyhounds trying out the distance for the first time to see how they will do over the route, and to see if they are worthy of a nomination into the stakes rounds.

The sprints have a good mix of their own too as rising pups do battle with cagey veterans to see who has the chops to take home the top spot at the finish line.

We start off on Friday Evening in the 15th and final race on the card over 660 yards.

1. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) is a supreme rail runner that draws his best box in this effort. If she gets loose early on, no one is going to be able to get to her before the finish line.

2. Git N Moody (Ww Apple Jax - Sunsands Lilgirl) got into trouble in his last race where he sat in the box, but previous to that he had been on a tool. He is up against the best again here, he will need to break in a hurry if he wants to compete in this effort.

3. Gs Kruz (Lewis And Wax - Everlastingbliss) is a consistent threat over 660 yards in any race that he runs in. He has great early speed and hang around late on occasion too. Factor throughout, I think SO!

4. Rays Finishline (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is trying out the distance for the first time, so you never know what you are going to get. A safe move though as his littermates have done well over 660 yards.

5. Kiowa Fuzzy Fern (Fuzzys Cannon - Kiowa More Money) is a hot and cold running greyhound that really needs the rail in order to be effective in any race. Her biggest hurdle in this race is the 5 box.

6. Circuit City Cat (Fuzzys Braxton - R's Flaming Fury) is a bit over her head in this effort. She has won twice in her last 4 starts, but also ran out of the money twice in grade B. Now in A, she has her work cut out for her tonight.

7. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) might not win a lot of races, but he surely does compete and contend in each and every one that he is entered into. With 4 trifectas in his last 5 starts, he will be a force again tonight.
8. Racheal Lee (Get Over - Nothing But Fine) is a former stakes winner, who woke up and won again in her last effort. Closing is the name to her game and away from everyone early in the 8 box gives her an advantage. Starting to roll at the right time, this one could get ugly.

Ok so Racheal Lee won't be at front anytime in this race, expect for the finish line. We all know she comes from way off the pace and just because she broke in her last effort, doesn't mean she is going to do it again tonight. Look for her to put on her closing shoes and outrun them all late for the win in this one. Also there should be Kiowa True Love. Love is in LOVE with the rail and the one box is the best place on the racetrack for her to break from. She always runs tough from here, so look for a threat throughout this effort. Gs Kruz has enough early speed to make the lead at the start of this race, but holding on to it all the way to the finish line is going to be a task. Don't get me wrong, he has in the past and could again if everything goes well for him tonight. Either way he will contend from start to finish. Eds Budby is a solid grade A threat and will find a way to the cash once again tonight. He is not all the flashy, but this blue collar runner, just keeps coming and coming and never, ever gives up. Winning is a stretch, but in the money is not.

Saturday - 1/16/2010

Saturday Matinee's race is the 11th on the card showcasing a great bunch of talent.

1. Kiowa Smedley (Dodgem By Design - Kiowa Heavenly) likes the rail and gets it in this effort. When he is close early, he is handful, but without it he can still close up and factor late. Hard to ignore the 30.17 lurking back a few races. If he gets loose, watch out!

2. Cjc's Buckshot (Pacific Mile* - Gable Ruth) is a super closer that just can't get to seem to get home in time to win a race. He gives his all in each and every start and the post will do nothing but help him in this effort. If he is close early, he's a winner!

3. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a solid grade A competitor that hangs around the pace and the money position in almost all of the races that she runs in. She might not win a ton, but she does get on occasion. With some closing speed, she should factor again today.

4. Deerfield Can (Flying Penske - Solitary Rita) has had a couple of rough trips in a row, but don't let those lines fool you. This greyhound CAN surprise this field and has won several grade A's in the past. All he needs to do today is break.

5. Lockdown Lucy (Back Breaking - Ptl Lea) is a big time early speed greyhound that has jumped up the ladder to grade A after coming to us from Dubuque. Her only problem is that she is short at the end of the race. If she wants a chance here, she is going to have to steal a ton early on.

6. Mr. Clark (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) finally finished out of the money in this last effort. This puppy has all the skills to compete at this level, he just needs to get out of the box better. He will go to the rail early on from the outside and even though he can close, he must be close early here.

7. Gs Olivia (Deerfield Site* - Steffie's Charm) is a strong closer that will be making her move at the leaders in the stretch. She has run well from the outside in the past and the 7 box is a good place for her to start from. Winning against this talented field will be a task.

8. Its Atoughracket (Let's Winendine - Faith Keeper) has not won in a while and the 8 box might be the answer to that problem. He has closed well and contended in each of his last 6 races, but each of them came inside the 4 box. Everyone better pay attention to him in this effort.

The big question in this race is who is going to break and who is going to sit. Post plays a factor her too. Mr. Clark should go to the rail and the 7 greyhound sits in the box, WIDE OPEN to the turn from the Its Atoughracket. I think he clears close enough to drive by anyone in the stretch for the win. Also coming will be Cjc's Buckshot. He likes the rail, gets the rail, and only has on gear, FORWARD! Kiowa Vanessa is always around in grade A and today should not be an exception to that rule. And let's not forget the upstart Mr. Clark. Just waiting for him to break again and show just what he can do against the best at the racetrack.

Saturday - 1/16/2010

Back to 660 yards for Saturday Evening and let's look at the 15th and final race on the card.

1. Eds Go For It (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) has been red hot with 2 wins, 5 races in a row in the quiniela, and one of them came from this very same post. Drawback, this is grade A, not C or B.

2. Kiowa Trent Tovi (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) is making his debut over 660 and he gets a little help along the way. He is rail based and starts off in the 2 box, BONUS, and with the closing speed he has already shown, this should be a good move for him.

3. Tipsy Bob W (Tipsy Character - Jetstar Streaker) has struggled so far in grade A, but in both of those starts she was starting slow and was behind the 8 ball early on. She has the skills to compete, she just needs to start getting out of the box better.

4. Jjb Good As Gold (Lonesome Cry - Joe's My Man) has good early speed and has the skills to wire almost anyone on the front end. IE, two races back, Racheal Lee second, get it? I do. The only question is, who shows up?

5. Rays Balto (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is also trying out the route for the first time in this effort, just like his sibling Rays Finishline. Family history says that he should be able to run this far and compete well. We will see on Saturday Evening.

6. Kiowa Vic (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a long way from home in this effort. Vic breaks and runs his best from the rail and the 6 box will be quite a deterrent for him in this effort. But if he does come out running, you never know.

7. What A Charmer (San Tan Riffraff - Majestic Angle) is still trying to get used to the new distance. He is totally bred to run this far and when the light bulb goes on, watch out! The outside post might help him even more in this effort.

8. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) has shown to be the best move to 660 on the year. He has won 4 of his 5 starts over the distance and has put up some serious times and lengths over the fields that he has beaten. Clearly the one to beat tonight.

Try as they might this field is going to be really hard pressed to beat Bad For Ya in this race. This greyhound is running better than anyone over 660 right now and tonight, the fun continues on. So she didn't quite win last time, tonight the new streak starts from a favorable post position. Kiowa Trent Tovi might be trying out the 660 yard course for the 1st time, but hey look at Bad For Ya 5 starts ago. This greyhound shows every sign that he can run this far and the scary part is that he should break better over the distance. He gets the post plus too in this race. Dare I say, if it all goes his way, he might be able to upset in this effort. Eds Go For It might be moving up in grade, but as consistent as she can been, it is tough to ignore her. She gets the rail too and that is great for her. Last time out from the 1 box, she won. Factoring throughout this effort is just what she is going to do. What A Charmer has the same mom as Penny Candy, so he has that going for him! LOL! I know the rail might be a better post for him than the outside, but he will do what he needs to do again tonight to find the superfecta. Sooner or later I predict that he is going to make a splash over this distance.

Sunday - 1/17/2010

Finally on Sunday afternoon we will feature the 11th race which is over the 550 yard course.

1. Fay's Fonda (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) is an all out early speed greyhound that can prove very tough on the front end, especially from the rail. This is the one box, so you know what that means!

2. Booster She Cat (Fuzzys Braxton - R's Flaming Fury) has won 3 of her last 6 races, including one in grade A, and knows how to gets it done from the front or from just off the pace. If he is not close early he can be suspect, so a good break will be needed again in this effort.

3. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) has climbed his way back into grade A and everything else remains the same. He has great closing speed and keeps coming throughout in any race that he is entered into. Remember he was a finalist in the 2009 Orange Park Derby. Late today he factors.

4. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) is a solid grade A greyhound that has not missed the trifecta in 6 straight races. He has won twice and has good early speed. He can be short late so a big jump from the box would be a good thing for him in this effort.

5. Miss Sylvie (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) is still a puppy and just figuring everything out on the racetrack. Two starts ago she took down the best at the racetrack, Hallo Mitch, and with the lead she might have another opportunity to upset again today.

6. Sweet Babboo (Dodgem By Design - Rooftop Sara) is coming back off a rest and right back into the fire against the best at the racetrack. She might be a bit over her head today. Let's see how she responds in this effort.

7. Mr Paytime (Dk's Prime Time - Laveranues) is coming into this race off a huge effort to move back to grade A. This greyhound is tough as long as he is close in a race and will to come out running again today if he wants to compete.

8. Hallo Triple A (Hallo West Acre - Car Bird's Seat) is the big time question mark. This greyhound is a streaky as they come, but when the lights are on, you all better pay attention. He is as fast as anyone here and proved it with a big time win in his last effort.

Ok for the race it's about the greyhound that has everything going for her. Fay's Fonda has the early speed to get the lead. She has her favorite post positions and she has been running really well as of late. I see her taking 5 on the field early on and for her to hold tough late, even though he lead shrinks, she makes it home to the wire for the win. Chasing early will be Hallo Mr Great, but he should get outclosed in the stretch by the every present Dirty Picture. Picture is right where he wants to be on the racetrack too and if he gets too close, too soon, he could win this effort. Hallo Mr Great has the early speed to challenge, but in the stretch he just won't have enough left to hold off Dirty Picture nearing the wire. Hallo Triple A has to be considered, especially after that big time win last time out. He can break, or run from off the pace and take down the leaders before the wire. This is just in case he wants to hit it today.

Wednesday at the OPKC

In the matinee for Jan 13th the B & J Kennel was on FIRE!!! Winning 5 of the 14 races on the card including the quickest trip of the afternoon, 30.95, by Wp's Clinton in the 11th race. Other winners were, Wp's Highlander, back to back for him, Hanks Dancequeen, Hanks Lucus, Black Licorice.

The better news for them is that all of these greyhound are puppies and have tons of starts and opportunities ahead of them for every more wins.

Nice to see former stakes finalist, MISS ROMY, get back to the lead and winning for fun as she crossed 7.5 lengths better than the rest of the field and moved back to the grade A ranks.

In the evening card the expected came to pass in the 11th race as HALLO MITCH, rushed to the early lead and kept control of the race throughout for the easy, easy win. Proving that he is clearly the best greyhound over 550 at the racetrack. His 30.44 second jaunt was not even challenged at all on either card. He won by an impressive 6.5 lengths and has .31, or 4 1/2 lengths, better than the other grade A race.

Monday, Monday!

It was a disappointing run for Mr. Clark in the 10 race as he broke last, tried to get to the rail, and encountered trouble early and in the first turn. He continued to chase throughout and never improved and finished last. Props to Passing Gear who wired the field on the front end and held off Sassy Gloria at the finish line for the win.

A ton of former stars got off the snide too this evening. Former stakes winner Racheal Lee broke to the lead, yes I said to the lead, and as you can imagine, no one was going to get to her before the finish line. She won by about 4 lengths in a speedy time on a slow racetrack.

Another good wins included Kiowa Shamrock by 8.5 in the fastest time on the card at 31.05, It's back to grade A for her, Puppy Kiowa Trent Tovi was determined in the 7th at took home a grade A victory over Its Atoughracket and Kiowa Vanessa, and CTW Paramedic in grade D. He won by almost 11 lengths and showed why he is far better than the lowest grade at the racetrack.

Friday - 1/8/2010

Let's start off 2010 on a different note. For the feature races for the weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club we are going to try a bit of a different approach. We will select one race for each performance, Friday, Saturday Matinee, Saturday Evening, and Sunday and give a detailed look at it.

First let's start off with the greyhounds entered in, their breed lines and a little bit about their racing style and performance as of late. Then we will move on to a race break down on how I think the whole thing will turn out.

Sound like fun? Ok let's go!

Fridays event is the 10 race and it could be a blow out!

1. Rays Taxman (My Judge - Ivyonna Star) has been a solid grade A competitor since arriving from Daytona and has enough late speed to challenge in any race over 550. Here in the inside post should help his effort.

2. Kiowa Shamrock (Kiowa Mon Manny - Kiowa Sweet Sue) is a hot and cold running greyhound who find a way into the mix on occasion. You always have to watch out for her no matter what her lines look like.

3. Hallo Mitch (Flying Penske - Sol Sassy) is the best greyhound at the racetrack right now over 550. He has won 6 straight and 12 of his last 14 including the Holiday Hot Box Special!

4. T Dizzle (Craigie Brooker - Unbridled Time) is a cagey veteran that can really put a hurting on a field if she gets loose in a race. She always closes and should be giving her all late again tonight.

5. Where's Coldanna (Coldwater Keelin - Dimple Design) looks to be a bit over her head here against these competitors, but she is in A and you never know.

6. Miss Sylvie (Fuzzy Cannon - Miss Kissable) is from a fantastic litter that includes several good greyhounds like Mr. Clark and Stakes finalist Miss Romy. She likes it outside & should clear and compete here.

7. Wp's Clinton (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) is coming into this race off a grade A win and even though he is away from the rail, his rush and late kick should keep him in contention tonight.

8. Wp's Commander (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) is looking to not be outdone by his brother next door. He is not as consistent as Clinton, but does have some skills in the open. A big break will be needed if he wants to compete.
Ok so this race is Hallo Mitch's. He is the king and his kingdom just keeps growing in this effort. The track is a lot slower and no almost track records tonight, but win 7 in a row in clearly in his clutches. Rays Taxman gets the next best nod for his consistent performance in grade A. He has good closing speed and that will be enough to get him up into place. Miss Sylvie should also content from the outside post positions, and let's not forget Wp's Clinton. With a win in his last race and 2 in his last 6, he is a formidable sleeper in this effort.

Saturday - 1/9/2010

Saturday Matinee we will go with the 11th race.
1. Jean's Hiedi (Golddust Memory - Gifted Lex) is finally back in grade A and will take her strong closing ability into this race from a favorable one box.

2. Sign And Drive (Dodgem By Design - Happiness) is a former stakes winner that is getting back on top of her game. With 4 wins in her last 5 races, she is going to be tough to keep out of the winner's circle in this one.

3. Fay's Fonda (Maryville Rumble* - Rooftop Kaylee) is a good early speed greyhound that has not missed the trifecta in 6 races in a row. Factoring throughout? I think so!

4. Dirty Picture (Coldwater Konow - Chance With Me) is a big time closer that is never out of any race. He can come on with the best of them and now that he is back in grade A, Watch out!

5. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) has really blossomed over the last couple of months and has 3 wins and 5 trifectas in his last 6 races. He must break here to be effective.

6. Hanks Blackhawk (Fuzzys Cannon - Greys Eaglewings) is a solid grade A greyhound that might not be winning a ton of races, but he has been a threat in a bunch. With 5 supers in 6 starts he is a solid in the money play.

7. Gs Olivia (Deerfield Site* - Steffie's Charm) is one of a group of nice puppies that the Willis Kennel has brought to the OPKC. It only took one race in grade B to get back to A. Watch for her late explosive run.

8. Sunsand Fannymay (Lonesome Cry - Sunsand Sienna) has taken well to the racetrack since arriving from Twin River but has not done well so far in grade A. If she wants to compete, she needs to break on top tonight.
Well this race will be a battle royal on the front end. Loads of early speed from all directions and it is going to be interesting to see if they can hold off the late speed at the finish line. Sign And Drive gets the slight nod here with her returning form and stakes experience, but Hallo Mr Great or Fay's Fonda also have a shot at making the lead and holding on all the way to the wire for the win. Anyway you like them, they all should be around throughout in this effort. Now for the closers. Winning might be a stretch but never count out DQ. With Dirty Picture and Jean's Hiedi lurking late, either would could dot the later part of the positions at the finish line.

Saturday - 1/9/2010

Saturday Evening we move over to the 660 yard course and get a look at some upcoming competitors for the Orange Park Derby.

1. La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) has really come into her own over the 660 yard course and has far outshined her efforts over 550. She has won several races over here and this is her best box.

2. Kiowa Vic (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a 660 yard veteran that loves to race from the inside part of the racetrack. Breaking for him is a must though, as he needs to be close early on to be successful.

3. Cjc's Smoothmove (Pacific Mile* - Gable Ruth) is a strong closer at any distance and has won 2 of his last 6 efforts in a row in grade A. He is a cagey veteran that can take down anyone if the mood suits him.

4. Kiowa Fuzzy Fern (Fuzzys Cannon - Kiowa More Money) is coming into this race off an big upset victory in grade A. She runs hot and cold, but when she is inside and she is on, she is tough to beat. She won her last effort from this starting box.

5. Kiowa Uzzia (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) has done well for himself since moving to the 660 yard course. Showing both break and closing ability, he can compete from anywhere near the pace. The only question here is the post position.

6. LPH Shy Miss (Teamster - Doyabelieveinluv) has jumped up the ranks to grade A with 3 wins in her last 5 races. She might be in a bit over her head tonight, but if she does come out running she might be upset minded in this effort.

7. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) only one word describes this greyhound, PERFECT! Three starts, three wins over 660 and in very speed times. She has yet to be beat to the lead & looks to be the favorite again tonight.

8. Nj's Jax Ina Box (Teamster - Nanot Baby Karen) is a good early speed greyhound over 660 that can seize control of a race and never let it go. The 8 box could be her friend tonight and provide her with not only the lead, but possibly an upset too.

Here I see it being a two way battle for the win, and both of those greyhounds come from the DQ Williams Kennel. Bad For Ya and La's Lucy should both get clear runs from the box and if these two lock up on the lead, it is going to be very interesting to watch. I'll take Bad For Ya though, she has yet to be beat and until she does, she is the winner in my eyes. Lucy should be a close second and provide the lead for quite a trip tonight. Kiowa Vic is close enough to the rail in the 2 box to be really effective in this race and I always love the closers for the super and that points right to Cjc's Smoothmove in this effort.

Sunday - 1/10/2010

Sunday the fun continues on in the 11th race on the card.
1. Pru Whistler (Craigie Whistler - Rambo For A Win) is right at home in this one box. This big time closer loves the rail and won the Night of Stars XXII feature from this very same post.

2. Pat C Sis In Law (Lonesome Cry - Pat C Velvet Sis) is a nice looking puppy from Pat Collins that won back to back races to get up to grade A. She has some close to her, but breaking will be most important tonight.

3. Kiowa Shag Along (Flying Stanley - Kiowa Shag Sue) is a monster on the front end that has recently helped her won 4 races in a row in grade A. She was roughed up late in her last start, expect better here.

4. Cayenne Carmagea (Dodgem By Design - Cayenne Jet) is a solid grade A competitor that can break or come from off the pace to challenge. The middle post might be a hindrance in this effort though.

5. Uss Race Air (Uss Raceway - Fuzzys Flagwaver) is coming off a determined win in his last grade A effort and has show proven that he can do it against the big boys. Closing is his best suit too, watch for him late.

6. Rays Balto (My Judge - Ivyona Star) needs to break better so that he can get back to winning in grade A. He was on a tear about a month ago, but hasn't seen the light of day in a while. The skills are there, he just needs to wake up!

7. Sassy Helen (Fuzzys Cannon - Sassy Nan) is firing on all cylinders as of late and has been a force to be reckoned with over her last 6 starts. All in the money finishes, her break and rush should keep her close again throughout.

8. Sunsand Sapphire (Craigie Whistler - Sunsand Nezzy) is another Twin River ship in that is taking well to the new surface. Breaking is clearly the key to his success as he has finished in 3 of his last 6 efforts and all of those have come from near the early pace.

Wrapping up the weekend it should be Pru Whistler getting the win in this race. She loves the rail and can break or come from off the pace to get the job done. The red box is the best box for her and she will prove it again in this race. Kiowa Shag Along should also be considered a big threat to win this race. If he can make the early lead, he might just be able to wire this field on the front end. Uss Race Air really impressed me in his last effort, where he gave all he had to win, and despite the 5 box he should be effective once again late in this effort. Rays Balto also must get a look today as he has all the potential and might just wake up and show off once again here.

New PHOTOS from the past!

I found some photos and have spent the better part of a couple of days scanning them all in. So far I have added as many as I have for the stakes finals to the stakes page and I am in the process of making a page with links to the others. Great old names from the past. Check them out at http://www.jaxkennel.com/StakeRaces.asp
