Weekend Roundup

Friday - 4/30/2010

As always the Orange Park Kennel Club is proud to offer up some fantastic greyhound and races this weekend.

Several of your favorites will be in competition, along with some up and coming greyhounds. All will be looking to steal away the win and if everything plays out the way it is suppose to, there could be some very interesting finishes.

Whether you like early speed ankle burners, or maybe your forte is the big time closers, in these feature races we have something for everyone.

Will the speed steal the day, or will the big finishers rule? No one knows for sure, so let's get ready for yet another exciting weekend here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Things kick off over the added distance in the 15th race for Friday evening.

1. Se's We Goin Too (P's Skidway - We Goin Sizzler) loves this post position. She break extremely well from there and has a win showing 5 starts back. She will need to hit it again if she wants to upset.

2. Jjb Good As Gold (Lonesome Cry - Joe's My Man) runs his best when he is close to the early lead. In his last couple of races he has not made it out of the box. He needs to turn it around and hit the lid tonight.

3. Kiowa Trent Tam (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) is back at the 660 yard course and so far so good. She has been in the mix throughout and gets another good rail post here. If she breaks, she has a chance to win.

4. Kelsos Kingsize (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Dea's Hazy Day) gets room early on with the empty post, and he is going to need it. He must be close early to be effective and his break has left him as of late. Breaking fast is his only hope here.

 5. Hallo My Pear (Hallo West Acre - Kiowa Chil Cavel) has really matured into a solid grade A greyhound over 660 yards. Ok so she is short late, who cares. She gives her all, factors throughout, and even wins some. Expect the normal hard effort.

6. Gabe Candice (Flying Penske - Home Town Charm) is a big time closer over any distance and can come on with the best of them in the stretch. Sometime she waits too long and it costs her. If she is too close to early, this field could be in trouble.

7. Kiowa Unnat (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) might be moving up in grade but he seems ready for the task. He has not missed the trifecta in 6 straight, and has flourished from the outside. If it goes his way, he could steal a win tonight.

8. La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) is riding high on a 4 race win streak and is clearly the greyhound to beat in this effort. She can win with or without the lead & once in front, the race is over. Tonight from a great post, she should be up to the call again.

This race should be an easy on to figure out. La's Lucy is clearly the class of this field and if she wants to run, this race is already over. She has just dominated over the last month or so and from another good post draw, she is going to break close and prove best at the finish line. Challenging here should be Kiowa Unnat. I don't care about the move back up in grade. He has been bringing it and will again in this effort. He is not short either at the end of the race and should rally into the place position in the later stages of this effort. With back to back wins over former stakes finalist and a second place effort behind the 2010 Orange Park Derby winner, I would say he is up for this task. Se's We Goin Too gets a look for a couple of reasons. She has been running tough as of late, but mostly because she draws the one box. She loves it in red and gives her best efforts from the starting box. If she gets loose on the early lead, this field is going to have their hands full. Let's not forget Hallo My Pear. What a greyhound this little guy has turned into. He has been breaking very well, leading races, and even though he is short at the end, he has even held on for some victories. He will break, should be in the lead, and factor throughout once again in this effort. (8-7-1-5)

Saturday - 5/1/2010

It's stakes veteran time in the 11th race for Saturday matinee at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

1. Lorna's Cannon (Fuzzys Cannon - Instant Vintage) is a dangerous greyhound when she gets loose in any races. She has all out raw speed and can tap it whenever she wants. From her best box, she could wake up and run today.

2. Kelsos Scallywag (Dodgem By Design - Kelsos Smallfry) has been a breaking machine as of late. No greyhound has been able to beat her to the turn, but in the stretch she has paid for it. She loves the rail and should factor on the lead again in this race.

3. Hanks Marsbar (Dodgem By Design - Hanks Cool Cat*) has climbed his way back into grade A. he is a stalking, closing type of runner that need to get out of the box to be effective. The post is working for him here, let's see if he is up to the task.

4. Kiowa Vanessa (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a solid grade A competitor that can close fast on any greyhound in the stretch. Who only drawback is that she can find trouble if she waits too long to hit the switch. The room early will help, but she needs to want it.

5. La's Anthony (Dustin The Way - La's Felisha) this 8 time stakes finalist, needs no introduction. He can do it all and should be the one to beat here. He can win on the lead or from off the pace, and the extra room early on aides in this effort. Today he is the one to take down!

6. Where's Trentlee (Trent Lee - Izz Our Hen) is up in A after winning 3 of his last 4 races, including his last 2 in a row. Over his head a bit today? Maybe, but with his closing ability and never say quit attitude, you never know.

7. Fth Tiger Lilly (Take It Over - Fth Moon Dancer) is a long way from the rail, but if she breaks she might be able to get there. This solid chaser will need to be close early if she wants to be effective late in this effort.

8. Trak Action (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) has really started to run tough again since moving back from 660 yards to 550 yards. He hasn't missed the money in 5 straight starts and gets a good outside post today. Upset minded, we will see.

This race could be quite a heated battle on the early lead. No doubt to be who will be in the front in the early stages, Kelsos Scallywag, but can she hold it all the way to the wire? Now that is the question. She has been very successful with 5 quiniela finishes in a row and 3 of them have come from this post position. If she can steal enough early, and get some help behind her, she might just win again today. But with a savvy stakes veteran chasing you, that might be a moot point. La's Anthony is still the class of this field and should be the one to be consider the favorite. Ok, so he might not make the lead, he doesn't need to. He just has to be close to the lead in order to win it at the wire. If he can get out and get to the rail untouched, this race is over. Lorna's Cannon might be the sleeper pick that might get overlooked. She loves it on the rail and ran the best race of her young career wearing red. She breaks very well from here and if she decides to come out running, she might have enough to get to the lead and steal away the win. Even without the lead, she still has enough left in the tank late to get up on the lead before the finish line too. You never know what you are going to get with her. If she wants to run, WATCH OUT! Fth Tiger Lilly might not have a win showing, but she runs her heart out and is in contention in almost all of her efforts. She has been in the trifecta in 3 of her last 5 effort and she just missed in the other two. The one to pay attention to was the strong second place effort 2 races ago. Running down the best greyhound at the racetrack in the stretch, that was enough to make me take notice and become a fan. Here she must come out close if she wants a chance at the money. (5-2-1-7)

Saturday - 5/1/2010

Saturday night in the 15th and final race on the card, the Queen of the building is in action!

1. Miss Kate (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) is a great breaker, rusher, closer that can contend from all over the racetrack. Here in a good rail post, she should factor with the leaders for the duration of this effort.

2. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) flourished over 660 yards, and now he is making a name for himself again over 550. He is a big time closer over the shorter course and will be flying up late to challenge again here.

3. Pat C Pearl Drop (Lonesome Cry - Pat C Velvet Sis) might be a touch over her head in this effort, but if she can get out of the starting box at all, she might have an outside chance. She runs evenly, so a big break will be the key to her success.

4. Citation Cam (Flying Penske - Ctw Miss Kelly) is an all out ankle burner that has won several grade A's and stakes rounds here at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Sure she is short, but not till she is passed. If she steal a lead and gets some help, she might post up another win tonight.

5. Awesomeofcourse (Trent Lee - Ctw Miss Kelly) half sibling to Cam, this greyhound posses the same early speed attribute. Solid in A since coming to OP, this greyhound must break as well in order to be effective. The good news for him is, he NORMALLY does come out fast.

6. Bh's Dotimyway (Lonesome Cry - Yip Happy) is an on again, off again type of greyhound that can win by 5 or run even and never vary throughout. If he is close to the early lead, his effort increases. So a quick start would be a good start for a winning effort.

7. Kiowa Top Design (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) has been breaking close and winning more than his share of races as of late. With 3 wins in 4 efforts and 5 of 6 in the money at the wire, you have to respect the effort. If this late speed greyhounds gets around, keep an eye out for him at the wire.

8. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) even though she might have not won her last two races, she is still the one to beat in this effort. The best sprinter at the racetrack draws clear on the outside. She breaks & starts off a new win streak again in this race.

This race is really going to be something to watch. Early on it is going to almost be a match race. Loads of speed from Rs Libby Lu and Citation Cam. Both greyhounds have the ability to see the front in this race and which either one does, the other one will be in close pursuit. The difference maker will be how long they can last on that lead. Cam is a bit shorter then Libby Lu is and in the end that will be why she takes home the victory. In the far turn and in the stretch the DQ entries will throw their hats into the mix as well. Bad For Ya is an ultra closer and he will be gaining on everyone and everything in front of him. He will not be surrendering just because he was not on the early pace. If he can clear close from this inside post, he will have a chance to take home the win at the wire. Miss Kate must get a look too. Forget the last effort, loads of trouble, but pay attention to the others. With 4 trifectas in 4 starts, this little girl really makes things happen out there. With enough early to get close and enough late to hang around and challenge, she will make the most of the post and find a way to contend. (8-2-4-1)

Sunday - 5/2/2010

Wrapping up the weekend in the 7th race on the card for Sunday matinee.

1. Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) is a whole different greyhound from this post position. She always breaks from here and when she sees the lead in a matinee race, she is tough to beat. Today expect her to wake up and show off her skills.

2. Sassy Gloria (Fuzzys Cannon - Sassy Nan) is as fast as she wants to be and the streaky switch has been flipped on. That last race was huge and from this favorable post position, you get more of the same today. Watch her romp!

3. Gm's Cashmen (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) is coming off a big time win in his last effort where the early speeder, came from off the pace to get it done at the wire. Posted well in this effort, he will be a threat throughout to whomever is in control of this effort.

4. Gs Shabam (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) the name might not be as recognizable as his brother Cashmen, but he is no slouch in his own right. He has won 2 of 4 races, including his last in grade A. He too is tough near the lead, so a good break will be needed.

5. Ah's Tang (Golddust Memory - Ah's India) broke out of the funk in his last effort as he hit the lid and controlled the race all the way to the wire for the surprise victory. Can he do it in back to back efforts? We will have to wait and see.

6. Whatever Works (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) will need to be able to get to the rail in this race is she wants to compete. Even without a big break, she has enough closing speed to contend in the stretch. The only question is can she overcome the finicky post position?

7. Kiowa Gooddesign (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) has everything going for him in this effort. He likes it outside, has enough early speed to contend, and could steal away on the lead for the win. Look back 3 races, that is just what you might get today.

8. Lk Fly Bye (Rj's Gary B - Carols Best Girl) is in tough in this race. She is up a couple of grades here and will have to deal with some top notch greyhounds. The post is in her favor, but she must break close if she wants a chance at all against this field.

Down on the rail should be the title for this race. The one, two, and three boxes are going to be critical to who this race plays out. Jumping to the lead will probably be Kb's Next Level. She just never seems to miss from this starting box, especially in matinee races. Surviving all the way to the wire might just be another subject though. She has done it before and might again today, but Sassy Gloria and Gm's Cashman might have something to say about that. More so for Gloria as she runs much better from off the pace than Cashman has in the past. She clearly is the one that should be the favorite to win this race. Just look at her last effort. The hot water tap is on and flowing at full force, get on board now. Cashman cannot be left out of this equation either. He is hot off a win as well and if he gets around close, he has a shot at hitting the bulls eye at the finish line. Whether he wins or not is up for debate, but him finishing in the money should not be in this race. The other greyhound to consider is Kiowa Gooddesign. This greyhound is the sleeper pick in this effort. Why? He has enough early speed to even beat Next Level to the lead if the mood suits him. He too is short in the stretch, but has held on late to win his share of races as well. Just look back 3 starts, were he broke from a similar post position and wired the field on the lead for the victory. More realistically, he should factor early, weaken late, and find a spot in the superfecta at the finish line. (2-3-1-7)

There is 13 races on the card and the Derby is scheduled as the 11th one to run. Doors will once again open at 10:00 am to make sure you get plenty of time to play the ponies.

So make you plans to head out to either of our fantastic locations for some great thoroughbred action, and stick in a wager or two on the puppies as well.

The Orange Park Kennel Club and the Best Bet at St. Johns Greyhound Park, the place to be during all of the Triple Crown Races.

Distance Dominance

It's a good thing for the Orange Park Kennel Club that we have not only one greyhound tearing up the 660 yard course, but two.

Like at most racetracks now, we just a couple of grade A boxes to be had over the added distance and these two champions have not seen each other in quite a while.

So who are we talking about? None other than the 2010 Orange Park Derby winner Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen), and the greyhound that ran the fastest time over 660 yards in the last 17 years recently La's Lucy (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best).

Neither of these greyhounds need an introduction, but in case you don't follow our circuit, I'll give you a brief run down.

Eds Budby has really come into his own over the added distance course this year. Starting out with the stakes rounds, Budby found IT and has not let it out of his site since. He won 4 of the 5 in the stakes, including the finals, and since coming back from a try at a sprint title too, he has been fantastic.

He has not missed the trifecta in his last 8 races in a row. What is even more impressive is that he has won 5 of his last 6 efforts, including his last 4 starts in a row.

The most outstanding of those wins came 4 races back where he broke on top and left the field 11 lengths behind him at the finish line.

Budby is on cruise control right now. This closer has been breaking fast and once in front, no one has been able to get even close. If he can keep it up, this streak could continue for a mighty long time.

La's Lucy is no slouch herself though. She has been streaking too and has won 4 straight races and posted up 7 victories in her last 9 efforts.

Lucy competed in the Orange Park Derby this year too, but her fate was a bit different in the finals. She ran into a ton of trouble early on and was jolted back out of contention early on. She did well in qualifying with three wins and a fourth place effort.

Since that time Lucy has had one thing on her mind, WINNING! She has been blistering from the starting box and has be tenacious on the lead. No one has run her down as of yet and from the looks of it, no one is going too.

Head to head since the finals, Lucy holds the advantage over her counterpart. Lucy has beaten Budby twice over the last two meetings, including the race that saw her clock a 37.06. That time was faster than anyone has run over this surface in the last 17 years.

The great part about this is that you can debate it all day long and still come out a winner with either one of these greyhounds.

Both are serious competitors, both have unrelenting drives, and both are untouchable once they make the lead.

The Orange Park Kennel Club is glad to have such talented greyhounds running on our circuit and we wish best luck in the future to both of them. KEEP THE STREAKS ALIVE and who knows, Burt Roads total of 14 might be in jeopardy someday.

Weekend Update

Friday - 4/23/2010

Another thrilling weekend of races about to come your way from the one, the only, Orange Park Kennel Club.

Whether it be 550, or 660, yards the best of the best at the racetrack are ready to strap on their muzzles and compete for a chance at another win in our feature races.

Stakes winners, Stake finalist, Solid grade A competitors, and up and coming pups, whatever you would want, we have it for you again.

So let's get started out over the looonger course in the 15th race for Friday evening.
1. Xtra Style (Kl's Doug - Exceptional Bid) is an ultra closer that can break on occasion. She loves this post and coming off a win, should factor well again tonight. Watch out if she is too close too soon.

2. Rays Finishline (My Judge - Ivyona Star) is a good early speed greyhound over 660 yards. Against this talented field he is going to have to make the most of the good post and come out running.

3. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) do I really need to explain it? 2010 Orange Park Derby winner, back from sprint stakes, dominating over 660 again. Two straight wins, he is the one to beat!

4. Se's We Goin Too (P's Skidway - We Goin Sizzler) has really woken up as of late and has won 3 of her last 5 starts. She has a good break and is an even runner over this distance. She break well to contend.

5. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) is a strong closer that would much rather be on the rail. She loves it there and will heading that way at the break. Back at home now in A over 660!

6. Power Exchange (Craigie Whistler - Aunt Redmoon) is a much better 660 yard greyhound and now is back in the proper distance. Where ever he is, he is a closer and that will show up again in this effort.

7. Inbetweendreams (Em's Mac Attack - Curious Gwen) might be a bit over her head in this race, but will 3 wins in 5 starts from outside post, you can't ignore the effort. She must be at the top of her game here.

8. Hallo Wonder Boy (Dodgem By Design - Mohican Milla) is Wonderful when he gets closer to the early lead in any race. From this great starting box, he should get room and contend from start to finish.

Ok let's face it, this race is Eds Budby's too loose. He is a monster and has been getting back on track since returning to 660 yards. He won a race 2 starts back by 11 lengths. This closer has been breaking and that has been bad news for the fields that he has been running against. Tonight, no speed to his inside at all. Time to take home the hat trick. Hallo Wonder Boy gets a notice too, mainly because of the post position. He loves it out there and should get room to break and run early on. I don't think he can take down the man, but if he gets in front of him and some help, he might. Se's We Goin Too is a strong running greyhound but over 660 yards she only has one speed, EVEN. So if she wants to win she has to make the lead in this race and try to hold the rest of the field at bay throughout. If she doesn't make it there, she has not shot at the victory tonight. Xtra Style is a big time closer that will be coming off the tailgate to challenge in this effort. Hot off a win from the very same starting box, she is poised to make some noise again in this effort. If she clears early, she might be the longshot of the evening. (3-8-4-1)

Saturday - 4/24/2010

Now on to Saturday matinee and the 7th race, which is a good match-up between early and closing speed.

1. T Dizzle (Craigie Brooker - Unbridled Time) is a cagey veteran that is never out of any race. She can win from the lead or from behind and with this great starting box, pay attention to her today!

2. Pure Performance (Dodgem By Design - Laveranues) is a big time ankle burner that will be stealing lengths early to try and hold on late for the win. Moving back to grade A in this one, she has something to prove.

3. Fth Keystone Cop (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) is a stakes winner that has some good early speed of his own on tap. He too has been short as of late, but has still been a solid grade A threat. Watch out for him here.

4. Mister End Zone (Get Over - Kd Belinda) is a nice looking puppy that is still learning what to do around the racetrack. Already in A, he has used his break to his advantage. Today he needs to hit the lid again.

5. Pat C Pearl Drop (Lonesome Cry - Pat C Velvet Sis) hot off a win in her last effort to get back to grade A, her break is her best attribute. She only contends close to the lead, she beating the box is a need.

6. Jayvan (Ra Blazer - Shake My Soul) is a good closing greyhound that is in the wrong post. She loves the rail and will have to work today to get there. Late everyone better have an eye in the rearview mirror.

7. Kiowa Top Design (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) is hotter than any other greyhound in this field with back to back wins, but there were in grade C and B. Here the competition gets tougher. Let's see how he does.

8. Lady Avery (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) was the point leader in the recent stakes and finished just off in 3rd in the finals. The best closer in this field, she won't be around early, but late she might just run everyone down at the wire.

So I expect the big time early speeders to do what they do best, get out of the starting box and to the turn in a hurry in this effort. The only problem for them is that we have probably the best closer at the racetrack over 550 yards sitting in a great post position. So even though the speed holds better in the matinees, I still think they all get caught before the wire. Watch Pure Performance and Fth Keystone Cop to lock up from the starting box and push each other all the way to the stretch on the lead. Copper is a bit stronger late and should take over coming home, but that is where the late speeders come into the picture. Lady Avery is going to be circling the field on the outside as she rushes by everyone to steal away the win. Copper should be good enough for place and another closer, T Dizzle, should pressure him for that spot at the finish line. Early leader Pure Performance has to settle for the final spot in the super as he gets outgamed near the wire. (8-3-1-2)

Saturday - 4/24/2010

Want a battle royal? You get on in the 11th race on the card for Saturday evening!

1. Cjc's Knockout (Maryville Rumble* - Gable Claiborne) has won 3 races in a row and has been to the lead on top at the turn in 5 of 6 races. She is going to be a major force here, especially from the 1 box.

2. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) is the recent stakes winner and currently is riding high on a 4 race win streak. She has blazing early speed and gritty determination in the stretch. CLEARLY THE ONE TO BEAT!

3. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) lead early in the stakes finals before being outrun late. With 3 wins in 6 races, he is a force and he has tools to the turn as well. Factoring throughout, that's a big time YES!

4. Deco Abilene Wil (Gable Dodge - Deco Cocktail) has really started to come into his own as of late. He has been breaking better and in turn finishing better at the wire. Against this tough field, he needs to bring it.

5. Trak Action (Dodgem By Design - Ww Ellen's Time) the rest has seen to do him good. He has been on a tear since coming back and as long as he is close early, he might have a shot to factor at the finish line.

6. La's Reba (Get Over - Ruby Is The Best) is a big time closer over 550 and will be coming on strong a the end of this race. She has been running well as of late, but the most might throw her a monkey wrench tonight.

7. Bh's Dotimyway (Lonesome Cry - Yib Happy) is still a puppy, but has the chops to hang with the grade A's. Early speed is his claim to fame, but against this field he is going to be hard pressed to see the lead. It could be a long night.

8. Lorna's Cannon (Fuzzys Cannon - Instant Vintage) is tough when she breaks from the rail and is close early on to the lead. From the 8 box and in with a bunch of big time breakers, she might be under it in this effort.

Who else can I pick than the best greyhound at the racetrack over 550 yards? Yep, it's Rs Libby Lu for me. I know this race has the potential to be a mess at the first turn with all the early speeders to the inside part of the racetrack fighting for room, position, and the lead, but sometimes you just have it. Rs Libby Lu has a TRUCKLOAD of IT! Play the other two behind her either way you like them. Both are great early speed greyhounds. Both could steal the lead, both might even could win this race. But I just see 2nd and 3rd because both can be caught in the stretch and Libby just doesn't surrender. All of them better watch out late for La's Reba in this one. She is the only true closer in this field and if she gets revved up early on she might be a major force at the finish line. If there is trouble up front, she might even have a shot at getting home a winner in this effort. (2-3-1-6)

Sunday - 4/25/2010

Capping off the weekend in the 11th race for Sunday matinee, we get to see a eight time stakes finalist run.

1. Awesomeofcourse (Trent Lee - Ctw Miss Kelly) is a solid grade A greyhound with some good speed from the starting box. His drawback is being short in the stretch, but today the 1 box will help his effort.

2. Miss Kate (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) has learned how to keep her muzzle on and still contend in races. She gets another great inside post here and could prove to be a spoiler at the finish line.

3. Teeshawn (Fuzzys Cannon - Well Chosen) might be a puppy but he has the talent to compete against the top greyhounds as the racetrack. He is all about the early speed and must bolt from the box to factor today.

4. Kiowa Vinita (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a good closer that gets left too far behind early sometimes over 550 yards. She will make a move late, but sometimes it's too late. Here she needs to break better to contend.

5. La's Anthony (Dustin The Way - La's Felisha) is a multi-stakes finalist that is a monster on the lead. He love the rail and will have to break well to get there today. If he sees daylight, this race will be over.

6. Gs Shabam (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) is stepping up in class in this effort and it might be hard for him to factor. There is some serious talent here and he is a long way from the rail. He needs his best effort.

7. Leading Steps (Lonesome Cry - Tk Ashira) is the best early speed greyhound in this race. He does pay for it late though and even if he steals 20, he might not win. The post helps, but is it enough to win?

8. Daycare Ron (Lonesome Cry - Ml Teardrops) this ship in has shown some good closing speed so far at OP. He just needs to get around cleanly in order to start his run, the 8 box could help him out in this effort.

Time to jump on the work horse and ride him all the way home. La's Anthony is clearly the class of this field. No one else has been running against the stakes greyhounds and has the experience that he brings to the table. With 6 in the money and 2 wins in his last 3 efforts, he is the one to take down in this effort. Forget about the post, he does what he needs to do to win. Battling on the front end should be Leading Steps and Awesomeofcourse. Both greyhounds have enough early speed to make the front in this effort, but neither of them posses enough lasting power to hold on all the way to the finish line for the win. No matter who gets to stick their nose in front at the turn, Anthony is going to get to stick his in front before the finish line. Play them behind him and you could take home some cash. Let's not forget Miss Kate. She has enough early to contend and enough late to maybe take down an early speeder or two of her own before the finish line. She has been running tough and loves the rail post positions. If she keeps on keeping on, she will finish in the money once again in this effort. (5-7-2-1)

The Queen is Ruling!

Every since coming back from Wheeling Downs earlier this year, Rs Libby Lu, has been the queen of the Orange Park Kennel Club.

This little girl has been winning everything and proved that her title in the 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup was not a fluke, she just beat the best of the best in the finals of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic.

No one is riding higher right now and even after the finals, her form has continued to get her to the early lead in races and take home some great victories.

In 2010 so far, over both racetracks, she has 20 starts, 11 wins, 3 seconds, 0 thirds, and 5 fourths. At Orange Park alone, she has not missed the money in her 16 races, won 11 of those races, and a stakes final.

Even though it is awhile till the next stakes event for her, the 2010 James J Patton Silver Cup in August, there is no doubt who is the one to beat in every start at the racetrack.

We have had All-Americans here in the last but none did what she has already done. No one in the last 15 years has taken home back to back stakes titles, and now she has a chance to defend her title in 2010, and make it 3 in a row.

Rs Libby Lu is an exceptional talent and posses skills that others just don't have. Granted her break and rush is what gets her to the lead where she wants to be, but the desire to run is what gets her to the final line first for the win.

Heart, determination, desire, will, whatever you want to call it, Rs Libby Lu, exudes them all in each and every start.

Thanks for Ronnie Stanley for running her here and thanks to the Linda and Stacey Blanch for keeping her in tip top form.

Good luck on your history making run and the rest of the season at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Count Ivan Headlines Weekend!

Friday - 4/16/2010

Not one, not two, but three former stakes winners will be gracing the racetrack here at the Orange Park Kennel Club this weekend.

Not only have they won a stakes race, two of them have won multiple stakes events. What is even better is that we get the return to racing of one of the best greyhounds ever to grace our oval.

The most recent multi-stakes winner is up first in the 10th race for Friday evening.

1. Pat C Pearl Drop (Lonesome Cry - Pat C Velvet Sis) has been in grade A for a while now, but needs to step up in this effort to stay there. She has great early speed and a big break will be needs from a favorable post position.

2. Miss Kate (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) loves it from the inside posts and gets a good one here with the 2 box. She has enough early to contend and enough late to challenge. Watch out for another big effort from here tonight.

3. Leading Steps (Lonesome Cry - Tk Ashira) has fantastic early speed and might even be able to steal away the early lead in this effort. The problem is late in the race. He can be short at the wire like he was in his last start. Winning 4 of 6 he is a threat to win again.

4. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) proved she was the best greyhound over 550 yard again by winning the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic. She has a great early rush, and the determination of a bull. Even without the early lead here, she still should be able to get it done.

5. Kiowa Shag Along (Flying Stanley - Kiowa Shag Sue) is hot off the stakes rounds and hot off a win too, albeit in grade B. She too is an early speed merchant that will need to come out running in this effort. Without the lead, she will be hard pressed to win.

6. Fth Tiger Lilly (Take it Over - Fth Moon Dancer) might still be a puppy but she is running like a veteran. She has been in the money in her last 5 grade A starts in a row. The more experience she gets, she is looking more and more like dad. Clearly a sleeper, but don't overlook her.

7. Blaze N Ray (Craigie Whistler - Rayvan) was the runner up in the stakes final and was only a half a length off of the win. The post is his biggest hindrance for him tonight. His closing speed is his best attribute. If he can clear close to all the early speed, they might all be in trouble at the wire.

8. Big Drama (Get Over - Rooftop Flojo) posted up her first grade A win 2 races ago with an impressive 30.56 second romp. She is still a puppy and has a big upside, as long as she can get around the racetrack cleanly. Tough post here to get to the rail without trouble, but if her rush is DRAMAfree, you never know!

This one shouldn't be too hard for anyone to figure out. Two of the greyhounds in this race just finished first and second in the finals of a stakes race, so who do you think I should pick. LOL! I know Leading Steps might decide to come out running once again and Libby Lu might not make the front. But let's all remember that she didn't get the lead in the stakes finals until the far turn either. Here she just wares down the competition and take over again for another thrilling finish and victory. Causing her to worry all the way to the wire will be Blaze N Ray. Wishing he was inside again in this race, he must do his best from the outside 7 box tonight. Either way no one else in this field has closing speed like him and that is all he needs to challenge the leader again for the win. Leading Steps won't just go away without a fight. he is going to keep running and should factor all the way to the finish line. Don't be surprised too much, if there is any trouble behind him, he could steal away a win. Let's not forget Miss Kate either. She has been running tough, has a great starting box, and can close strong in the late stages of a race too. If she gets loose, she could put a monkey wrench into all the best laid plans in this race. (4-7-3-2)

Saturday - 4/17/2010

Time to start COUNTING up the victories again in the 7th race on the card for Saturday matinee.

1.Kiowa Vinita (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) competed in the recent stakes and has shown some great closing speed in the past. Look at the win 2 starts ago, but that effort came from the outside. Here in the 1 box she will need to be closer early to get home a winner.

2. Count Ivan (Kiowa Sweet Trey - M's Countess Amy) SAM is BACK! Time for one of the best greyhounds to ever race here to get back to winning official races at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Posted up in a great post position, this race is his to lose.

3. Kiowa Trey Babe (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Kay V Ball Bird) finally got up in time to make it back to grade A 2 starts ago, but had a rough trip in his last start. Closing is her best ability on the racetrack and if she wants a shot to contend, she needs to come out better at the start of this race.

4. Diamond Mia (Get Over - Rooftop Flojo) is from an impressive litter and even though she has shown grade A speed, she is still getting her feet under her against the best greyhounds at the racetrack. The middle post is ok with her, but if she wants to compete, she needs to bring it today.

5. Hs Blazinstanley (Flying Stanley - Flat Out Heidi) has been red hot since coming to the Orange Park Kennel Club. Living up to his name, he came break with the best of them and even though he got the best of Sam in schooling, I don't think it will happen again.

6. Ze's Chayo (Water Keelin - Ze's Checkin) finally climbed back to grade A in her last race and appears ready to go in the early stages of this one. She has superb breaking and rushing ability, but she is short in the deep stretch. Factoring throughout is not a problem, but holding on to win will be.

7. Teeshawn (Fuzzys Cannon - Well Chosen) has had a couple of rough trips in a row in grade A and needs to clear early and find a lane to rush in her in order to be around a the finish line. He has done well from this post in this past. Let's see if he shows up.

8. Jeans Winningboy (Golddust Memory - Gifted Lex) found his break in the last effort and moved back to grade A in this race. He is best when he is close to the lead in the early stages of a race, so the break is extra important to him in this effort. The 8 box gets him away from the crowd, but can he do it in back to back races?

So I'm a homer but you almost have to cheer for Big Sam in this race. Count Ivan is back after a 4 month layoff and looks ready to go. He just missed in schooling and closed from 5 lengths down the backside to get there. He is ready now and will prove it in this race. Today the track will be faster, and even though there might be a couple of greyhounds in front of him early on, no one holds him off at the finish line. Trying to make the big dog work for it will be Hs Blazinstanley and Ze's Chayo. Both of these greyhounds can hit the lid and put some distance between them and the rest of the field early on. Either one could make the lead and whoever does get in front, will be hard pressed by the other one for the duration of this effort. Whatever happens on the lead, I don't think either one of them will hold on for the win without some help from behind. The sleeper in this field might be the 4 dog, Diamond Mia. With all the early speed clearing early on around her, she will get room to run and has enough closing ability to challenge for a spot at the end of this race. She might not have the experience of the other greyhounds today, but what she lacks up for there, she clearly makes up for with talent. (2-5-6-4)

Saturday - 4/17/2010

On Saturday evening in the 15th race we stretch out over the distance and find another stakes winner.

1. Se's We Goin Too (P's Skidway - We Goin Sizzler) is in the right spot to challenge for yet another win over 660 yards. From this post she has won back to back races and has taken down everyone in her path. In against another tough field, she will have her work cut out for her again tonight.

2. Inbetweendreams (Em's Mac Attack - Curious Gwen) has won 3 of her last 5 efforts, but none of those came in grade A. Here she might in the deep part of the pool without a life vest. She needs to try and find her form early on so that she can use her closing ability to get into contention late.

3. Rays Finishline (My Judge - Ivyona Star) has some good early speed over the distance, but reaching the Finishline with the lead has eluded him on several occasions. He did win a round of the Derby this year, but it might be too much to ask tonight. If he does see the lead, he could find a most spot at the wire.

4. Hallo Wonder Boy (Dodgem By Design - Mohican Milla) shook off the cobwebs in his last race and joined the ranks of the grade A greyhounds for the second time around. When he is close early he is as tough as they get here and if he comes out like he did in his last effort, he might surprise them all.
5. Sunsand Violet (Dk's Prime Time - Sunsands Nezzy) is a rusher that needs to room in the early stages of the race in order to contend. New to the grade A ranks, she has something to prove in this effort especially against this top caliber field. The post is not her friend here.

6. Eds Budby (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) was the winner of the Orange Park Derby and since he has not missed a step. He has not missed the trifecta since coming back to 660 yards, and he won his last race by 11 lengths. Clearly he is the one to beat in this effort.

7. Where's Finalhit (Flying Penske - Finaldestination) is a steady runner that can close at times at the end of the race. Since moving back to grade A he has had some success, but winning against this field might be a stretch. He will need to come out close early if he wants to be around at the finish line.

8. Kiowa True Love (Flying Penske - Kiowa Tom Long) is not in the right starting box. This little girl is all about the rail and will have to start on the outside part of the racetrack. Even though she won in her last effort from the outside, this is grade A and it will be tougher to get it done. Feeling at home again over 660, she could contend tonight.

This should be a two greyhound race in my opinion. The posted up Se's We Goin Too and the Orange Park Derby Winner, Eds Budby. Budby gets the nod here just because he is that plain good. He is better than the competition and can win with or without the early lead in any race. He has been getting stronger in each start back over 660 yards and is in top form again right now. Look for him to do whatever needs to be done to win this race. Se's We Goin Too is no slouch either. She has really broken out of her shell over the last month or so. She has won 3 of her last 4 races and two of those have come from the very same 1 box she has in this effort. She will break from this post and if she can steal enough early on, she might have a chance to steal away a win. Others to consider here are Hallo Wonder Boy and the big time early speed engine Rays Finishline. Wonder Boy finally got out of the starting box again in his last race and moved back to grade A with a convincing win. He can go without the lead as well, but it will be harder for him to win if he is not in front. Getting back on track now, he should contend. The true early leader in this race maybe Rays Finishline. This greyhound has great early speed, but pays for it late in the race. He can be short, short, short in the stretch and if Budby is lurking, there is no way he is going to hold on for the win. So look for him early on and let's see if he can hold on in the superfecta in this effort.

Sunday - 4/18/2010

Last but not least we showcase the talents of the greyhounds in the 11th race for Sunday matinee.

1. Black Licorice (Heart Rumble* - Spicy Candy) is a great looking puppy from B & J that has been tearing up the racetrack recently. Winning 4 of 6 races and in the quiniela 5 of 6 starts, he should be a big time force in this effort, especially from the inside post.

2. Kiowa Swizzle (Kiowa Mon Manny - Kiowa Sweet Sue) is the fastest greyhound ever at the racetrack. Yep he is the track record holder, but only if he can see the lead at the start of the race. Don't look for him to come from behind to win, so he needs to break to win this race.

3. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) has been a solid grade A and stakes competitor and draws a favorable post position in this effort. He has a good rush to the turn and can hang with the best of them throughout in any race. In order to win he must break, but if he doesn't he could still factor in the money here.

4. Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) is an ankle burner that draws no speed around her at all. If she comes out like she can in this effort, she will clearly be in the early lead. Late she can be caught from behind, but during the matinee she should be able to wire this field. Here she is the one to catch.

5. Gs Kruz (Lewis And Wax - Everlastingbliss) seems to be doing well since coming back to 550 yards. He has been closing fast and finishing with the leaders at the wire. He can run from anywhere and can get up late to steal away wins at the wire. If he clears here, he could be dangerous.

6. La's Jaguar (Be Discrete - La's Felisha) might be a puppy but he has the chops to win in grade A already. He has been getting it done on the lead and from off the pace and draws a box that has seen him win back to back starts. If he shakes loose, everyone better watch out!

7. Kiowa Ustin (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) might be a longshot in this effort but if he can get close early on, he might have a chance to take down everyone in this effort. The post is doing him no favors, but if he breaks it won't matter much. He needs to step it up today.

8. I Cant Escape (Dk's Prime Time - Jj's Slick) is a big time closer from the DQ Williams Kennel that draws a good starting box in this effort. Don't look for him early on, but late, everyone in this race better have an eye out for him as they head to the wire. With 5 super finishes in his last 6 efforts, he will be money again.

In this matinee race, SPEED WILL RULE! Look for Kb's Next Level to jump out of the starting box and right into early command of this race. She really has no equal in this field to challenge her for the lead and today the speed will hold better throughout. She will pad her lengths early on and prove determined at the finish line for the win. Making her sweat it out a little bit will be the strong closing, and red hot running, Gs Kruz. Kruz has taken to the shorter course all of a sudden and with each and every start over here, he is getting stronger and stronger. He has been in the trifecta in 4 straight and has just missed at the wire in his last 2 efforts in a row. Today more of the same. Black Licorice also gets a look here, even though he has not put up any tremendous efforts. Flashy, no, but effective, YES! He has won 4 of 6 races including 3 at the grade A ranks. He can rush to the lead to win or come from off the pace, and today he will need the later. The one box is not his friend, but he will make the most of what he has, close throughout, and contend in this one. I Cant Escape might not be a challenger for the early lead in this race, but at the wire he will be a challenger for the win. He has fantastic closing ability and will be making up ground on the leaders for fun in the stretch. Even though he likes to race on the rail, he has done well in the past from the far outside posts. Look for him to factor late in this race.

Farewell to the distance Queen!

It saddens by heart to announce that two time All-American Penny Candy has been retired and will be returning home to become a mama.

Even though the DQ Williams Kennel has had several fantastic greyhounds, and even All-Americans, running at the Orange Park Kennel Club, none have been as special as Penny Candy.

This little girl was the definition of leaving it all on the racetrack. No matter what happened to her, she gave her all in each and every effort over whatever distance she ran. The further she went, the better she became.

Penny finishes off her career on the doorstep of the all time win leader list. With her starts from Wichita, she compiled career stats of 138 starts, 76 wins, 20 second, 18 thirds and 11 fourths. And even though she was good normally, in stakes races this little girl shined brightest. She competed in 18 stakes events and never finished out of the money. She won 13 of those races, finished 2nd twice, 3rd twice, and 4th once. Two of those wins were in stakes finals, the 2010 Orange Park Derby and James J Patton Marathon, and in 2009 she finished 2nd in the Orange Park Derby finals by a head and 4th in the James J Patton Marathon by a length and a half.

Over her career she has had too many win streaks to list, but the most impressive was when she almost tied the all time win mark on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit. Between October 2008 and January 2009 Penny Candy won 13 official races in a row over 660 yards, and what made it even more impressive was how she did it. Some of the wins came on the lead and the still others came from off the pace. The streak was stopped by a second place effort where she ran into all kinds of trouble and missed by a half a length at the finish line. Beyond that effort, she won three more races in a row.

Penny will be remembered by patrons, fans, and employees for years to come at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Everyone will miss your unmatching desire to win, your fantastic closing abilities, your unwaving class, and your incredible break. For all of us we will like to take this opportunity to thank DQ and Sharon Williams for allowing us to witness her greatest on a start by start basis. Congratulation on her great career and I'm sure in the not do distant future we will be seeing little Penny's tearing up the racetrack too.

Good luck in you new occupation as a mother, and once again congratulation on a stupendous career at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

The COUNT is BACK!

After a four month layoff one of the all time great greyhounds on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit is back!

Coming this Saturday matinee, 2009 second team All-American, multi-stakes winner and finalist, Count Ivan will be back on the racetrack and ready to take on the competition.

I know it has been awhile since you have heard his name, but let's refresh your memory a bit. The COUNT has track record speed in the open and almost set one as he won the finals of the 2009 Jacksonville Sprint Classic. Ivan also won the 2008 Jacksonville Juvenile and started off last year with a run of 11 wins in a row.

In the 2009 campaign, COUNT won 33 races and that was more than any other greyhound at the racetrack. What is even more impressive is that he missed little over a month in the middle of the year.

The COUNT can win from any post at any time and if the mood suits him, he can make it really ugly for the rest of the competition.
So tune into the 7th race on the card in the matinee on Saturday April 17th at the Orange Park Kennel Club to see the return of royalty, COUNT IVAN!

Rs Libby Lu Wins 2nd Straight Stakes!

The Queen Does it AGAIN! That is what would be uttered at the end of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic as the 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup winner, Rs Libby Lu, took home her second straight stakes title in this final round race.

This race was by no means a cakewalk though, she had to work hard throughout to finish just ahead of the competition at the wire.

At the break it was Hallo Mr Great who bombed to the early lead, but to matter how much effort he gave Libby Lu would just not go away in this effort. She pressed the leaders every step all the way to the far turn and that is where she made her move to take over the lead. Then her attention turned to the closers as they were coming and before this race was over it was going to get even more heated. Blaze N Ray was loose on the inside and ultra-closer, Lady Avery, was getting all revved up on the outside to make the deep stretch surge. Closer and closer the chasers came, and shorter and shorter Libby Lu's lead became, but in the end it was Libby Lu that outlasted everyone for yet another stakes title at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Blaze N Ray finished a close second as he won the photo over kennelmate Lady Avery half a length behind the winner. La's Anthony rounded out the superfecta and early leader Hallo Mr Great finished fifth. Sassy Gloria was sixth, Wp's Commodore was seventh, and Eds Joy Of Pride finished eighth.

Congratulation to Rs Libby Lu, owner Ronnie Stanley, trainer Linda Blanch, Stacey Blanch, and everyone else connected with this fantastic greyhound. In the 15 years I have been here, no greyhound has won back to back stakes and Libby Lu is proving that she is among the elite not only at the OPKC, but around the country.

Her solid break, blazing rush to the turn, and tremendous determination on the lead sees her winning a ton more races in the new future. Up next for this great little girl is a chance to defend her title in the 2010 James J Patton Silver Cup. Coming your way in August 2010!

Stakes Finalist Thruout Weekend

Friday - 4/9/2010

After a great exciting stakes final last weekend we get back to more than just one feature race for this weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

The good news is that we still get to see most of those greyhounds go head to head with others again this weekend. That should mean some good spot plays for everyone in these upcoming events.

So get your wagering hats on as we jump right in with the 10th race on Friday evening, the first half of the forced out Twin-Tri.

1. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) if you are waiting for an explanation for this girl, you must have been under a rock! She has won the last 2 sprints stakes and this is the one box! Questions?

2. Bh's Simplylegit (Bh's Rackem Up - Simple Life) is a great looking puppy from the Crowe Kennel that has yet to win in grade A. She has some good early speed, but has looked a bit short in the stretch recently. The post will help her efforts tonight.

3. Fth Chinook Wind (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) has gotten back on track in his last couple of races and the further inside he gets the better his efforts get. He is close here in the 3 box and should be ready to give his all throughout again.

4. Kiowa Samantha (Flying Stanley - Uss Wynona) is a big time early speed greyhound that will be challenging with the early leaders to the turn again tonight. Late in the race is when it is going to get interesting for her. She is short at the wire and might it find it hard to win.

5. Kiowa Vincent (Flying Hydrogen - Greg Kiowa Girl) is a on again off again kind of greyhound that runs as hard as he can when he can get close to the early lead in any race. The question for him is if he can break and be close in this effort. Tough in B, but THIS is grade A.

6. Trouble Free (Get Over - Rooftop Flojo) is another nice looking Get Over pup here at Orange Park and as long as he can live up to his name, and stay trouble free to the turn, he has a shot to contend here. Forget the last trip, and expect a better one in this effort.

7. Deco Abilene Wil (Gable Dodge - Deco Cocktail) has found himself in his last couple of races. He has been breaking well and proving strong at the end of the race, and that combination has seen him win 2 races in a row and reach grade A once again. Can he 3-peat in A? We WIL see!

8. La's Silver (Be Discrete - La's Felisha) is another greyhound that must be close early in order to be effective. The good news for her is that she starts out in the 8 box. She loves it here. She won her last effort from this same starting box. If she gets loose early, she will contend for the win.

Ok well this one will be easy. Play Rs Libby Lu and the rest. LOL! Really Rs Libby Lu has been that dominate as of late and hot off another stakes win in her last effort, the finals of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic, she is on a mission to make a name for herself. She has tremendous early speed and once in front she is tough as nails. Oh and did I mention that she has the one box too? Like she needs the help! Look for a big break and for everyone else to be chasing her tail throughout again tonight. Kiowa Samantha is the best bet to challenge Libby Lu at least to the turn. She too has a big break and rush early on in the race and if she hits it she might be able to get in front of the favorite early on. Late though, no match. She is short and Libby will be too much. Bh's Simplylegit is a great looking puppy, but alas, she too is short at the end of the race. She has not won in grade A yet, but put up a huge race to get there. A big win in 30.55 from the same 2 box she has in this effort. Look for her to contend throughout tonight. Fth Chinook Wind is getting back on the right track. He can get sidetracked on occasion and if he is not around the pace early on, he is not the same greyhound that he has shown when he is close. Here all the speed vacates the inside and he will be chasing clearly on the rail. Winning will be a stretch, but factoring in the super shouldn't be.

Saturday - 4/10/2010

The second race of the weekend comes in the 7th on the card for Saturday Matinee and features 2 of the Jacksonville Sprint Classic Finalists.

1. Lady Avery (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) was the point leader for the stakes as she beat the best of the best in 3 of the 4 rounds. She did what she does in every start, close, but was just off in 3rd in the finals. She won from here 3 starts ago, but in the matinee closing in time might be tough.

2. Wp's Commodore (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) was roughed up in the stakes final, but gets a better post and opportunity in this effort. He likes it inside and with no big early speed in this face, he might be able to get back to winning in this effort.

3. Where's Playtime (Dodgem By Design - Uss Agenda) has a good break when she wants to use it. Recently she has found some of her old form and has moved back to the grade A ranks with victories in 2 of her last 3 efforts. She has been short late in all of those starts and today, expect more of the same.

4. Cayenne Labron (Lonesome Cry - Cayenne Lilchic) might be new to the top level of racing, but he has already shown that he can hang with the big boys and girls. He has great closing speed and can make up ground with the best of them late. The post is even to his liking, let's see how he does.

5. Lrc Last Dance (Late Late Show - Hot Cargo) might not have fared well in the stakes rounds, but since she has been running pretty tough. She has not missed the trifecta in 3 efforts in a row, including a win 2 starts back from this very same post. If she gets out quickly, she might have a chance.

6. Yourgood Imgreat (Diamond's For Me - Let's Run To Win) is an explosive runner that can dominate races late when he wants to, but you never know just when that is going to be. He is always dangerous, look at his 3 wins in 6 starts, but he will need to WANT IT in this effort to factor for the win.

7. Cjc's Knock Out (Maryville Rumble* - Gable Claiborne) might not have been running against the stakes greyhounds, but she has been on quite a run of her own as of late. She has been in the money in 4 races in a row and has a win 3 races back. During the span she has been short though, so a big break is needed here.

8. Kiowa Gooddesign (Dodgem By Design - Flying Acme) might not like the post, but if he come out quickly it really won't matter all that much. He is hot off the stakes rounds, where he posted up a win in round 1. Even though he is short late, he has won before on the front end, but against this field he will need many lengths.

Talking about different circumstances, Wp's Commodore gets the bonus in this race. He breaks well when he is inside and the post suits him. He has no speed at all to his inside, in the one box, and that just gives him even more room to rush to the 1st turn. Once in the lead this greyhound very tough to chase down before the finish line. He won 2 of the 4 qualifying rounds and hopes to start off a new streak in this effort. If anyone is going to get to him before the wire it might just be Lady Avery. This greyhound is a monster closer over 550 and has had her coming out party in the stakes rounds. She was the point leader, she won 3 of the 4 rounds, and in the finals she might have run 3rd but she was just a 1/2 a length off of the winner at the wire. Her only drawback in this race is that it is a matinee and speed normally holds on better in the sunshine. Cjc's Knock Out is tough to ignore in this effort. A hot greyhound, with a hot pace, that should be around for the duration of this event. Her only hindrance is the post position. I'm sure she would rather be inside, but has run well from here in the past. She needs a big early effort if she wants to contend. Kiowa Gooddesign was also a winner in the stakes rounds and if he breaks he could upset again in this effort. He has all the tools to get it done he just needs to hit the ignition button. Post again could be the major concern. He likes the rail and starts out in the 8 box, so like his counterpart, he must come out running in this effort.

Saturday - 4/10/2010

The third race on the weekend, the 7th for Saturday evening at the Orange Park Kennel Club, sees yet another stakes finalist in the spotlight.

1. Blaze N Ray (Craigie Whistler - Rayvan) absolutely loves the rail and if you haven't noticed, THIS IS THE ONE BOX! He just missed at the wire from winning the stakes race and gets another advantageous post in this effort. He is going to be tough again tonight.

2. Fth Chinook Arch (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit) is hot off a win in his last effort and in that race he finally got back to showing some strong close at the end of the race. He is peaking at the right time and with a great post draw, he is going to be a factor in this one.

3. Big Drama (Get Over - Rooftop Flojo) has broken out of his shell a bit with back to back winning efforts. Although he is a puppy, he has the skills of a veteran and is figuring them out in each and every start around the oval. He likes it on the rail and the 3 box is close enough here to cause some DRAMA!

4. Miss Sylvie (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) has a rough trip in her last effort, but previous to that she had won 3 efforts in a row and was in the money in 5 straight starts. She has loads of talent and can win from the lead or from off the pace. The middle post might be hard for her swallow though as she is all rail all the time.

5. Gm's Cashman (Dodgem By Design - Gs Gertie) found his form right before the stakes rounds and has kept up the torrid pace thru the rounds and on thru his last couple of races. He has been a factor throughout in almost all of those efforts and has even stole a win or two away. Breaking is his key to success and he needs it here from the tough 5 box.

6. Kiowa Ustin (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Quik Superhero) is a bit closer over the 550 yard course and has come on strong in his last 3 races in a row. In each of those efforts he has finished in the trifecta, including a win 2 races ago from another outside post position. Watch for him in the stretch tonight.

7. Kiowa Shamrock (Kiowa Mon Manny - Kiowa Sweet Sue) is coming into this race off a big box to wire win in her last effort. Luck had nothing to do with it though, but her breaking on top did. She is a strong competitor when near the lead, but without it she has been suspect in the past. If she wants to contend, she must break well.

8. Awesomeofcourse (Trent Lee - Ctw Miss Kelly) has been tearing up the early part of the racetrack since arriving from Tri-State. His early speed has never wavered, but in the stretch he has been susceptible to the closers. Anyway with 5 efforts in a row in the trifecta, he has to be in the mix again tonight.

In this race you have to love Blaze N Ray. Ray has everything going for him in this effort. He is at home on the rail, he is hot off a huge effort in the stakes finals, he has been in the money in 7 races in a row, he has found his old form, and he is showing that even old dogs can give off new tricks. From the lead or from behind, Ray is going to find a way to win this race. No stakes finalists around, this post is enough for him to post up another win. Gm's Cashman gets the best of the rest call in this one. He has been coming out close and at the end of the race he is not short like the others in this field. He can hang when needed and will do so once again in this race. He might not be in the best spot to start from, but all he has to do is come out well and he will be. Big Drama gets a look after back to back winning efforts. He has really come into his own now and it is hard to ignore that 30.56 win in his last start. If he gets clear early again in this race, he is going to challenge for a try at the hat trick. Awesomeofcourse will probably be the early leader in this race. He has been there in 4 of his last 6 races and he has not been worse than 2nd in any of those races. In turn that means that he will finish well too. In each of his last 5 starts he has been in the trifecta at the finish line. If he can steal enough early on, he might even have a chance to hold on for the win at the wire.

Sunday - 4/11/2010

Completing the weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club is the 11th race for Sunday Matinee, and even though it has not stakes finalists in it, it still is chalked full of talent.

1. Kiowa Trey Babe (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Kay V Ball Bird) might be a bit over her head in this race since she is moving up from grade C in her last 6 races. She is coming into his effort off a win in her last effort, but in grade A she sees much more talent. Her closing speed is her best attribute. Watch for her late.

2. Bad For Ya (Trent Lee - Leafs Flying) is now back at 550 yard and has put back on her closing hat. He can come with the best of them late and as long as he doesn't find trouble, he will be a big part of this race at the finish line.

3. Mr. Clark (Fuzzys Cannon - Miss Kissable) has had a couple of rough trips in a row, but if he can get clear he has the ability to win this effort. He is a double threat when he wants to run. He can beat you from the front and from off the pace, but getting close early on will be the key to the kingdom in this effort.

4. Eds Mark Time (Flying Penske - Eds Cherokeegirl) is hot off the stakes rounds where she ran pretty well. She is a closer by nature and will need to find room early so that she can get around the turn within striking distance. She did win a start 2 races back in an impressive time, but need to overcome the post to contend.

5. Raiders Bart (Dodgem By Design - Raiders Azeri) has come from nowhere to show off some hidden talents in his last couple of races. He has won 2 of 3 starts and has been in the quiniela in all three of those starts. The difference has been the break. His quick start has really helped him out. Can he do it again?

6. Kiowa Trent Tam (Trent Lee - Kay V Barbierie) was a threat in all of the stakes rounds and with3 wins in 4 races, including her last 2 in a row, she is a bigger threat in this race. Her only hindrance in this effort is the post position. She is all rail all the time and this is the 6 box. If she gets clear, she will factor late.

7. Leading Steps (Lonesome Cry - Tk Ashira) has taken well to the Orange Park oval and has been showing off some blazing early speed in the process. He has won 4 of his last 5 efforts and all of those came in box to wire fashion. With the best early jump of the bunch, tonight could mean another win.

8. Sunsand Sallymae (Lonesome Cry - Sunsands Sienna) won back to back races to get to grade A and is not doing her best to stay here after a couple of trouble ridden races. Working against her is the post position. She likes the rail and will go there early on today. If she can come out close and get room, she might have a shot at the super.

In my opinion, in the matinees speed holds better and with the pocket rocket, Leading Steps, away from any other early speeder, he is going to be tough to catch in this effort. No one here has his gears to the turn and even though he might be a wee bit short in the stretch, he will steal way enough early on to hold on at the wire for his 5th win in his last 6 races. Closing late to challenge will be everyone. LOL! Bad For Ya likes this inside post position and even though he might be further behind than anyone at the start, he is going to be closer than anyone else at the finish. He has tremendous late kick at 550 and will showcase it once again in this effort. Mr. Clark also gets a look. I know he has been off his game and he runs better from the outside, but with no speed to the rail he has a chance to drive up into early contention. As long as he is close early on, he is a threat to win any race that he is entered into. He has enough late speed to go and get a greyhound off the lead before the wire too. For him today is all about the break. Kiowa Trent Tam also has to be considered in this effort. She was tough in the stakes rounds, she has won 3 of her last 4 races, has posted up victories in her last 2 races in a row. Her only hurdle in this race is the post position. If she was in the 1 box, she could steal another win, but the 6 box is not the 1 box. Here she will have to work to get inside and might encounter trouble early on. Working for her though is her late speed. No matter what does happen to her in this effort, she still should be able to use it to get her into the money at the finish line.

Post Positions 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic

Saturday - 4/3/2010

Saturday Evening in the 11thr ace we will run the finals of the 2010 Jacksonville Sprint Classic.

What a great field of greyhounds we have in this stakes final. Six of the eight greyhounds finished in the money in all of the qualifying rounds, three of eight won two or more rounds, and the point leader Lady Avery won her last three races in a row.

In conjunction with this stakes final we will be running our Mad Money Machine promotion. After races 4,6,8, and 10 we will draw names for a chance to grab as much cash as you can. Nab the special bill, and double your winnings.

We will also be featuring drink specials including $1.50 Draft Beers and Margaritas all night long.

So make you plans early as it's going to get pretty crowded around here on Saturday night with all of the exciting things happening here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.

Now let's look at this final round field a bit more closely.

1. Eds Joy Of Pride (Domingo Dodge - Cherokee Queen) has really grown up during the qualifying rounds and has proven that she can hang with the big boys. She loves the rail and gets it here with the one box. Crowe is looking for him 2nd straight stakes title from this litter, does she have enough to get it done? We will see.

2. Blaze N Ray (Craigie Whistler - Rayvan) is a big strong closer who was a finalist in this very same race in 2008. He too draws a great post near the rail and if he gets our close tonight, he is going to be a handful for everyone. His big win in qualifying came from this same area on the racetrack.

3. Sassy Gloria (Fuzzys Cannon - Sassy Nan) might have snuck in under the buzzer for the final spot, but her talent level is far beyond that. She can run and win from on or off the pace and is a threat as soon as she jumps from the starting box. She will need to be close early on though if she wants a chance to win.

4. Rs Libby Lu (Lonesome Cry - Sweet Sandra Sue) is the best early speed greyhound in the finals and was the winner of the last sprint stakes, the 2009 Sunshine State Silver Cup. She gets room early here with the empty box next to her at the start, but can she parlay that into a victory. If she does see the lead, they are going to be hard pressed to get to her before the wire.

5. La's Anthony (Dustin The Way - La's Felisha) is the only returning finalist to this race and needs to keep breaking like he has in qualifying. This solid rail runner is stuck in the 5 box and will have to work in order to contend tonight. After seven stakes finals and three in the money finishes, he is overdue for a stakes victory.

6.Wp's Commodore (Fuzzys Cannon - M's Countess Amy) won back to back races to round off the qualifying efforts, and posted up the time of the day on one occasion, but those all came from the front end. Tonight he is going to have to contend with some big time early speeders and it might be hard to get the clean air on the lead in this effort. Posted between all of the ankle burners could be his Achilles in this effort.

7. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) is a big time rusher that has been the model of consistency at the Orange Park Kennel Club. With 6 quinielas in a row and 11 in his last 14 races, he has been trustworthy throughout. Breaking again from a favorable outside post and with the eight coming out slowly, he will have loads of room at the start. Maybe even enough to upset.

8. Lady Avery (Trent Lee - Leafs Falling) is the best closer in the field and she has surely made it an exciting stakes. She has won 3 races in a row by a neck, a neck, and a nose. She won't be around early on, but this post should keep her out of trouble and allow her to continue the win streak. One thing is for sure, she will be flying up fast and it should prove to be another fantastic finish.

Ok so here is how I see the race playing out. At the break I think Rs Libby Lu and Hallo Mr Great will both come to play. Each gets room to rush to the front. Libby takes advantage of the empty box next to her and Mr Great takes advantage of the slow breaking Lady Avery to his outside. Both should have a clear lane to run in and both should be heads apart all the way up the front stretch. I think Libby has a little more box speed than Mr Great has so at the turn she should be the one just in front in the lead. This dynamic duel should be dueling for the lead and the win for the majority of this race, but in the stretch is where it is going to get really interesting. All of the big closer will start to make their runs at the leading pair, and it is going to be interesting to see if they can get to them before the finish line. Lady Avery has the best shot in my opinion. She is starting from a great post. She is going to break closer than she has so far in the stakes, and will get room to run herself on the outside part of the racetrack. She is going to be gaining on the leaders with every step in the stretch and I think she gets it done at the finish line for the 4th race in a row. Just like the semi-finals, Libby gets caught at the wire and Mr Great is also there, but finishes a close third in the photo. Cleaning up the superfecta should be the other closer, Eds Joy Of Pride. This greyhound has not missed the money so far in the stakes, draws a great rail post, and might just have a bit of karma on her side too. She is in a great spot and will make the most of it in this effort.
